I've been around town and all the usual suspects online, seems the $55/50 Nosler stuff is all that's available but for that price I might as well reload .50 BMG! I'd be happy with Remington, happier with Winchester. Anyone know where to get some?

I hear .308 is too short when necked down to any of it's child cartridges. Any input on this?

Not true at all.

I make plenty of 7-08 for my wifes rifle using .308- works fine.

I wont be buying any more 7.08 brass...........

If you neck .308 brass down, be careful about thickened brass in the neck area. You may need to ream or turn the necks to allow for proper expansion and bullet release on firing. Watch for signs of pressure.

Try www.grafs.com
Cheaper than driving and burning gas.
I've made 7mm08 and .260rem from .308 and/or .243. Not a problem.

The only time I've had problems with neck thickness was with some factory PMC. It was so thick, it was "tight" with factory ammo, and after reloading, wouldn't chamber with exact same bullets as factory ammo (Hornady 139gr PtSpt).
I had to neck-turn those to proper spec's, but they're now my most accurate cases....

You'll not likely find new-unprimed 7mm08 anywhere but reloading distributers...
Grafs (best shipping policies/prices)
MidwayUSA (best web-site, but you pay for it with $$$ shipping).
MidsouthShootersSupply, sometimes better availability and good people
Wideners Shooters Supply; also good people

I checked all these places before posting, and only Grafs had some Privi brass for $44. I never heard of them (their out of Serbia) so I passed them by. Looks like that price is for 100 pieces and includes shipping! Anyone ever use Privi brass before? Is it any good?

I bought 300-400 last fall on GB for a decent price. Need to expand your search area?

For my 7mm-08 I buy once fired brass at the range for $15 per 100, might want to try that. I got tons of brass for cheap.

You will need to buy online.

Get on Midway, Brownells, etc., make an account, and place the items you want on your wishlist. They will email you when it comes in, so make sure you have your email sent to your phone and check it twice daily. Midway says it'll have brass in by 2 March 2013, so you should be able to get something soon. I'd set a calendar event for that morning.

Also check web sites such as vaguntrader.com or equivalent for your state. Subscribe to the ammo forum and watch for brass. You'll just have to continually check. Save up your money while you wait. I would expect you can score 500 cases within 30 days if you really try.

No brass available at that link, all on backorder...

I suggest you take the advice of necking down .308 Win brass, it's much cheaper and there is "usually" plenty of once fired 308 brass available... If you have some on hand you're set...

That's why there was a suggestion to put it on a "Wish List". Although I'd probably use the "Notify Me" feature instead.

But, truthfully, I just spent 5 minutes using the Google machine to search the interwebz and found 4 sources that show having 7mm-08 brass in stock, either new or once-fired. So... there's that.

Yep, the 'handloader's manual of cartridge conversions' lists the 308 as the parent cartridge to form 7mm-08. So brass is plentiful, you were just overlooking it.:)

Privi brass usually gets favorable comments from what I've seen on various forums, this one included.

I don't have first hand experience and I don't remember specific comments about 7mm-08brass but I from what I've read I would not hesitate to give it a try.

Good Luck.

PPU brass is good stuff. I have never used in your caliber but in may others with good results. PPU made military ammo for the former Yugoslavia and does now for Serbia. They also make 5.56X45 under contract for NATO and the USA. The brass I have used tends to be a bit thicker than domestic stuff. I notice it when I am resizing.

While it's true most of my necked down 308 cases come out a bit shorter than my trim-to length, this fact hasn't caused me a bit of grief. They seat, chamber, and shoot just fine. Forming them isn't appreciably harder than sizing a regular case. They reach trim-to length after maybe 2 firings, and my trim-to length is a bit arbitrary, anyway. It's however long LEE decided to make my trimmer pilot, lol.

Now, the thicker necks cause their own issue. I found my necked down FC cases outrageously difficult to expand, until I switched to a Lyman M die.

I've also necked up 243 cases, and I haven't annealed any of these cases before or after forming them. I'm on 4-5 reloadings, and I haven't had a single cracked neck, yet.

PPU despite being so darn cheap is superb brass, I have used the same batch of 100 in my 6.5x55 for almost four years and it still performs great. Every bit as good as the Norma stuff I paid stupid money for. Use it in my 308 too, you can feel the difference resizing it is some heavy duty stuff.

How much do you need?
I'm sitting on a bunch of new Remington and Winchester 7-08 brass that I usually reform to 260 every time I rebarrel the gun.
I might be able to let some go as long as I got enough money out of it to replace it in the future at slightly higher prices when it becomes available again.

Prvi brass is awesome. I use it for reloading in 6.5x55, and 7x57, as well as fireforming for my 7x57AI. I'd rank it right up there in quality with the Lapua and Norma brass that I have. It is very easy to work with, and appears to be very high quality. You really notice how good it is in areas like the primer pocket.

I've fireformed nearly a hundred cases of factory loaded Prvi through my 7x57AI. I haven't had a single split neck or head separation yet. That's really good results compared to what I've read of other people's experience working with domestic made brass/ammunition.

ppu (PrviPartisan) is good brass.
All but a few pieces of my .260 brass is PPU .243 that I necked up to .260.
I was going to neck turn them, I did three and quit as they were pretty darn good as they were...
The bullets are "decent". Most are 1-2moa "hunting" bullets. Same as factory ammo at Academy Sports under the "Monarch" brand.
I have however, gotten sub-moa from my Rem. Mod-7 with the PPU 6.5 123gr BtHp "Match" bullet.

Back years ago before the 7-08 became popular all I had was .308 brass that had to be necked down. Never had a problem with it.

When necking a case neck down it gets longer, when necking a case neck up it gets shorter. And now? I am told the neck also gets thicker and or thinner? Who measures"? I do.

No one said that cases shrink when you neck them down. 149 of my 150 necked down cases did not meet trim-to length. 40 for 40 of my necked up 243 cases were longer than my trim-to length. But...

308: 2.015"
7mm-08: 2.035"
243: 2.045"

308 brass starts out shorter than 7mm-08. I suppose it might be because the cases are all made from the same blank material at the factory. But still, once formed to 308, it doesn't seem like the case lengthens all the way back to 7mm-08 length when necked down.. Not even close.

And now? I am told the neck also gets thicker and or thinner? Who measures"? I do.
Most of my necked down 308 is appreciably thicker in the neck than my 7mm-08 brass. (All except for one lone BHA match headstamp). I dunno if it started that way or if that was from forming. All of my necked up 243 brass is appreciably thinner. I didn't know that was a coincidence. I suppose I should measure before and after, next time, just to know for sure. But I thought it was common knowledge that when necking down, the neck gets thicker?
