Hey wondering what everyone's take on these signs that people post on their doors and lawns

Obviously these are only 2 of many examples but this is the idea.

I feel in cases it can act as a deterrent to scare of would-be BGs who do not feel like chancing their life that night. But I also feel it can have negative effects. One it can warn those BGs and allow them to prepare to wage war inside your home. The other con I worry about is when you are not home BGs see that sticker and now know there is a high chance that home has some nice firearms they can steal.

What do u all think? Also would u think the 2nd sign "warning, I don't dial 911" could cause some problems with your defense in court if you ever had to defend your home and use deadly force?

No signs on my house or in my yard.
No NRA stickers or any other indicators on my vehicles either.

My belief is signs or stickers just advertise where the bad guys can find weapons when the house or truck are unoccupied.

None for me please.

Where I live, I'm more concerned about burglars casing the house and knowing when we're gone than anything. I'd rather not advertise the fact that I may have firearms in the house.

Here's the sign I suggest that my friends who think gun-free zones are a great idea put on their homes...

It's an invitation to have your home burglarized. Pretty much the same thing as putting your nice new TV in the front room, and leaving the curtains open.

Will it deter a criminal who knows you're home? Maybe. But most criminals don't want to break into an occupied house regardless of whether the owner is armed or not.

Such a sticker on your car is temptation to have it vandalized.

One trip into mid-town Memphis is all it takes with something which rubs (non-thinking) leftists the wrong way. Leftists seldom tolerate other opinions.

mrvco: Did some of y'all watch the Youtube video where people who appeared to be "granola bar" types carried several such "Gun Free" signs, offering to put them for free in peoples' front yards?
They even knocked on the door of the newspaper editor who first published CCW addresses in that NY area.

They also knocked on Eric Holder's door with the offer.
They had no takers. Strange?

Could be both depending on the situation/potential criminal. Some may be scared off, others may see it as an opportunity and wait for the house to be empty. Both are valid arguments. As to the impact when it comes to court, depends on jurisdiction. Some areas prevailing belief/law may see you were well within your rights regardless, others may use it against you. NY mentality vs TX for example.

LOL.. I haven't seen that, sounds awesome. I was kicking around the idea of trying that with some of my neighbors who had 00'bama signs in their yard. I posted it to my Facebook account and played it straight... A lot of people weren't sure whether I was serious or not, but no one thought it was a good idea :p

^^^ This.

And besides... why ruin the surprise? ;)

It just depends on where you live. In my rural area you'll see a lot of signs and stickers. We don't have much crime. We also have a neighborhood watch committee and some nosey people that aren't afraid to ask a stranger. "what's your business being here"?

According to FBI statistics, the overwhelming majority of violent crimes involving firearms are carried out with stolen guns. It is suspected that this could be one of the reasons for the extreme rise in home invasions - including broad daylight home invasions. There are other reasons, but for the sake of this thread I focused on gun violence. Advertising that you have guns is a bad idea in general. Like my quoted friend, I don't have signs/stickers anywhere on my personal property. I also don't wear "gun" attire.

On a different thought, if I owned a business I could see merit in posting "I'm a 2A advocate - CCW patrons welcome" sign on the door.

I'd love to put one of my Magpul stickers on my car. Great company. I wonder if the tweakers would know?

I would never put those things on my house. Screams white trash AND rob this joint - both the "I have guns" and Gun free zone stickers! :D

My sign says:

"I have two Pitbulls and a shotgun. Are you really sure about this?"
What will an attorney make of that if yo have to use the shotgun? Will he paint you as a kill crazy gun nut? Like Clark Kent, I try to be mild mannered and obscure until the situation forces me to be otherwise.

macadore-

An attorney could make that argument but an equal and opposite argument could be made stating that the owner was giving fair warning as a deterrent because he did not want to shoot someone or have his house robbed. Plus I can't speak for other states but mine won't treat you like a criminal if you shoot someone who is invading your home, if you were defending your safety it would likely never go to court.

Kinda like how the argument of performing a trigger job on your carry gun could be construed to make you look like you modified your gun to "kill better". But the other side of the argument is- you made your carry weapon easier to shoot accurately so you minimize the chances of hitting innocent by standers.

Really what it should come down to is the truth. Not what a sticker says.

No firearm signs of any sort in my neck of the woods. You might as well put one up saying " Large screen LEDTV here" or "24K Gold jewelry inside". :neener:

Most common signs are:

Warning: Neighborhood Watch
Beware of Dog
Protected by XYZ Security etc.

I live in a small town in the south we don't need signs to tell everyone that there are guns in the house, having said that I do have small stop sign shaped warning alarm system signs on my doors. And I made sure one of the illuminated alarm control panels is in the direct line of sight from my utility room side door.

Stupid idea.

A Beware of Dog sign, however, can help CYA insurance-wise if you have a dog that may bite.

Or put the empty boxes out for the trash truck. I carry those things straight to the dump and get rid of them myself.

On the car, a single, very small sticker for the gun club. I haven't had a tailgater since.

On the house, a few small Video security stickers on windows and doors. also the attached sign on the screen door, and positioned in the exact same spot on the front door if they open the screen door.

I do end up with the odd solicitor standing on the porch, reading the whole sign, who then look up, say "Sorry for bothering you, I was reading the sign," and leave politely.

Nothing gun specific on the house however.

Every time a newspaper publishes CCW holder addresses or something similar, gun owners throw a fit, and yet I know far too many with Pro 2A stickers all over their houses and cars. You might as well post a big sign in the front yard that says, "Burglarize this home, there are guns inside."

A gun is only a deterrent if there's someone home to shoot it. Otherwise, it's motivation.

Pro-gun stuff on you car attracts kook vandals.

Pro-gun stuff in your yard/front door attracts thieves.

Federally or otherwise designated "Gun-Free" zones obviously attract homicidal psychopaths, but we seem to be PC-bound to ignore the two decades of evidence that proves it.
