I had not shot this gun in 20 years. Cleaned and oiled it and the first 3 rounds out of the 10 round mag the ejected shell gets caught in the slide as the new round is chambered. I can load 7 and have no problems. Have tried CCI, Blazer, American Eagle, and one other I am not sure brand. I don't remember it being a problem 20 years ago but being in my 60's who knows :) what is really perplexing is I also have an old Weatherby XXII, also not used in the last 20 years that does the same thing. Any ideas ? Thanks

The oil you used may have hardened and gummed back then. You may have to do a field/detail strip to get it all off then re-oil with a good gun oil. I've seen this problem before with rimefire autoloaders that were religiously "cleaned" with WD40 then left in storage for a time. The WD40 would combine with the leftover powder and turn to somthing like asphalt.

Welcome to the world of High Standard. This is why I got rid of mine!

Rut, that does not explain the Weatherby doing the same thing .
I think I will go ahead and strip them down and clean guns and mags then go from there. Thanks

Well, the thing with the H.S. mags is the finicky "feed lip" adjustment that I have no patience for. I can't speak for the Weatherby matter however. Good luck though!

The fired cases are not ejecting quickly enough. Do you have any problems with the rounds feeding from the magazine? With HS magazines, the "normal" problem is in the stripping and feeding part of the cycle. The rounds will go high or low depending on the condition of the feed lips.
Yes, do give the gun another cleaning and, also clean the magazine.
I have a HS Victor, made in Hamden in 1973; it runs flawlessly and has for many years......but not with every magazine. Original HS mags work best.

I remember reading how to adjust the magizine lips, but can not find it now. My HS Duramatic is having a feed problem where 7 out of 10 rounds feed to high jambing into the top of the chamber. Can someone tell me the adjustment that will help?
Thanks Don

You might also check the extractor to make sure it isn't rounded off and slipping off the rim.

You might want to go to rimfirecentral.com and post in the High Standard section; if you do, please take the trouble to tell them which model you have, and where it was made.

I've actually heard almost exclusively positive stuff about Hi Standard so maybe you're the exception and not the rule.

My grandad's model HB is flawless with any ammo type.

My problems may not be the rule, but they're certainly not the exception. Now, if I could only get rid of this one I'd really be happy! :p

I had a browning challenger doing the same thing. Put in a new recoil spring and problem solved .

2bfree, WHICH H.S.? It does matter.

Go through the magazine adjustment procedure, and try CCI Std. Velocity ammo, if you can find any.

This is a good recomendation for most of the target models.

I bought my Military grip Sharpshooter (push-button ball mount bbl) 42 years ago and it still runs smoothly with CCI Std velocity (40 gr, 1080 fps).

In that time, I have replaced the mag and recoil springs. Everything else is still O.E.
I've also adjusted the mag lips twice. Wolf springs, Numrich and some others carry parts.

I'd try different brands of ammo first. CCI Std is a good place to start, my gun also seems to like Fed. Auto Match and it's inexpensive or it was before the second dose of Obama.
