For reloads, you definitely want a traditional rifled barrel (Lone Wolf, Storm Lake, KKM, etc). Polygonal barrels can build up lead and cause pressure problems.

Congratulations. The G21 is the best service pistol being made. There is Glockmeister, Storm Lake barrels, Lone Wolf barrels,.....even Wilson of Arkansas sells barrels for G-pistols. One tidbit of info. I read that one can actually assemble certain Glock models w/o using ANY Glock factory parts.

One CAN do that.... it's kind of funny, actually. I've been planning on doing it myself.

The only thing I think that would have to be Glock is the locking block and slide release spring... I can't think of anyone who makes an aftermarket one of either of those.

You won't need an aftermarket barrel for lead in the 21. I put well over a thousand through mine with zero leading.

It doesn't have normal polygonal rifling, more like a smoothbore with speedbumps. Of course check the barrel every hundred rounds regardless, but I never had to do more than run a mop through mine.

Roger on what Chris just posted. The barrels in the 45 line, and in particular the 21 and 30, have the reputation for being the best Glock has to offer. The difference in rifling lends evidence to the assertion that the barrels are made on tooling different than the other Glocks.

I'd recommend you shoot your 21 as is for a while. You may discover, as I did many years ago, that it shoots just fine. Then your $109 for a replacement barrel can go towards something else, like a superior set of sights.

Just rented a G21 at a range and loved it. The grip is a bit too big for me to carry but for a range gun or a hd gun it's great. Nice purchase, hope you enjoy it.

The g21 rifling is not the same and the cartridge does not have the pressure that others do. Many of us G21 owners shoot lead without any issues at all. Read up on it. I would NOT recommend a lone wolf barrel either, go KKM.

If you want to buy parts to modify it, you may want to consider going to one of the bigger places like Brownells or Midway as they seem to be handling the overwhelming orders most places are seeing much better than the smaller places.

Some options:

- 3.5 pound trigger connecter (will lighten the pull enough to make it worth the bother)
- extended slide release
- extended mag release
- backup recoil spring
- extended slide lock lever
- grip plug
- glock tool (a 3/32 punch works just as well)

There are plenty of decent videos out there to help you do these mods. The Glock is elegantly simple. Don't be afraid to take it apart and do some tweaking. It all goes back together pretty easy.

I'd leave the trigger alone. Try the "25 cent trigger job" with some polish to see how it feels first before dropping money on changing out functional parts. If your hands are small like mine, an extended mag release is helpful to not break grip.

I don't live that far away from you(maybe 40 min tops).Can you share what gun store you got your glock from and roughly the price range of the police trade-ins?

I carried a G21 as a duty weapon for a little over a year. Of all the Glocks I have owned, I shot the highest qualifying score with it. For some stupid bit of reasoning which I currently cannot recall, I sold it and got a G19. Its barrel is long enough for duty carry but, as the G19 is smaller I thought I could get by with it for both duty and EDC. Turned out it's too big for that (I'm not a big guy), and thus hard to conceal. So I added a G26 to my Glock collection. It conceals better. Then I bought a Beretta Nano. It conceals even better.

If I can find another G21 at a price I can live with I'll buy it and sell the G19.
You can't go wrong with a G21. For duty, for EDC (if you are a big guy), for competition,
it's an all-around great pistol.

My first Glock was a 2nd gen G21, about 20 yrs ago. When I blew it up, Glock sold me a new, gen 3 G21, which I still have, for $291.50. They even threw in new Trijicons. I've put tens of thousands of rounds through G21s, including over 10k .400 Cor-Bons and over 3000 .40 Supers. Have fired a few .45 Supers and .450 smc through mine, as well.

I don't like the feel of any of the Glock factory trigger connectors, so I install aftermarket connectors in all my Glocks, including my daily carry G26. I also don't like the feel of nekked plastic in my hands, so, until recently, I used Agrip, exclusively, on my Glocks. I recently tried Wilson tennis racket grip tape, and love the feel of that stuff. It's inexpensive, easy-to-apply, and doesn't leave a residue.

I gave one of my G21s to my oldest son for home defense use a coupla years ago. I shoot my remaining G21 frequently. About two years ago, I bought two of the KRISS mag extension kits, but couldn't get them to work. Contacted KRISS recently, and they'd changed the spring design and sent me some new springs. Now I have two 30rd, reliable mags for my G21.

I am currently using a threaded, compensated KKM barrel in my G21; however, I like the Lone Wolf barrels just as much and have a a threaded LWD G17 barrel on order, for use with a suppressor.

Hope you continue to like your G21! I shoot nothing but my reloads through mine, but I don't reload lead, so have no experience with barrel leading in my Glocks.

Im not a glockaholic but I gotta say they did it right with the G21.Nice purchase and nice price as well.

GlockTalk, Glockmesiter, Top Gun Supply, Brownells, Midway are some good resources to check out. Night Sights, Mags, ammo. You should be all set. One thing that you may look at is the connector. Some guys like a lighter pull some like it heavier like a revolver. It's up to you.
