This gun wasn't even on my radar until I happened upon it at a local shop this week. I was looking at a Kahr CW45 and the guy behind the counter brought it over to me to see.

I spent about 20 minutes talking to him and handling it. It was unbelievably thin and packed with extras you usually don't see on single stack carry guns. He was showing me the XDs and I asked if he had fired one and how it compared to my G36. He said that he had already had people trade in their G36's for these and that he had bought one himself.

As I held it the first thing I noticed was how freaking thin the gun was. It was as thin as the CM40 he had in the case. I would have never expected that. Everything is inset or rounded for concealability. The slide and frame are the exact same width. The next thing I noticed was the factory front fiber optic sight. This one had a red fiber installed but came with spares in red and green. The sight was extremely easy to pick up and glowed very brightly in the light of the shop. The gun also had interchangeable backstraps and, with the smaller one installed, fit my hand nicely. Nothing pinched or dug in like the PPS did. The grip texture felt secure but not rough.

The next important feature was the trigger. This gun's trigger is crisp and breaks clean. There is virtually no creep and the reset is very short. I didn't even notice the beaver tail safety was there and my hand naturally actuated it with confidence.

I said, "I would love to try one some time to see if it can compare to my G36". He walked over to the counter, grabbed the rental XDs, a handful of loose rounds and some ears and told me to go try it on their range no questions asked, no charge. Their gun, their ammo. That's never been offered to me anywhere before.

I gotta say, the recoil on this gun was surprisingly light for its size. It was very easy to control and follow ups were.quick. I only got to shoot 10 rounds but I was sold.

I walked out with a grin and told him to pack one up for me. I paid $529.00.

The gun comes in a nice large padded case with various cheap-o but functional "XDs Gear" such as a Fobus style paddle holster, twin magazine holster, extra backstraps, spare fiber optic inserts in red and green, a nice heavy duty lock, Allen wrench and a second magazine. While I plan on getting a nicer holster its nice to buy a gun and be able to go home and already have at least something you can use.

In my opinion Springfield hit a home run with this gun. It should do well against the competition. The 9mm and 40SW should ship beginning in March.

Here are a few shots I took. Forgive the quality, I literally snapped them in the car while I was waiting for my daughter to finish track practice.

Love mine too

I handled mine at LGS and bought it right there.

Its thinner than the G-36 and that was THE selling point for me too, shoots very well and I even tried target shooting at 50' and it was gtg.

Enjoy it and see if you like the 7 round mags as spare carry rounds as I do.

I took the 'finger extensions' off the 7 round mags as they serve no purpose for me.

I have handled 3 XDs pistols in the last week. Haven't had the opportunity to shoot one though. I really like the ergonomics of the gun and I would buy one in a heart beat if they were available in 9mm. Alas, I just don't think I am gunslinger enough to run one hard (in .45 ACP) at any kind of speed.

My brother bought one yesterday and we shot it today, WOW! I agree, surprisingly light recoil and very comfortable in my hand. I always liked the idea of carrying a 45 for CCW but didn't think it was possible with my small frame until I handled this little gem. I recently bought a 357 SP101 or I would be in the market for one.

It's an awesome little monster of a .45. I bought it right after I recieved my conceal carry in the mail. It just melts away under even a sort t-shirt, it's very accurate, and the recoil is very manageable. I can't say enough good things about it as a carry gun.

A few months ago, I bought my Springfield Armory XDs (45 ACP). It look very close to the size of my Glock 27, but I can pocket carry the XDs (in a pocket holster) where the Glock 27 is just a bit too thick.

The sights work well with my old man eyes, especially the front fiber optic sight. I may change the sights for night sights eventually, but they are fine for now.

The gun I compared the XDs to is the Kahr PM45. Both were fine, but I liked the XDs more.

The magazines for the XDs are not plentiful at a reasonable price, especially the 7 round magazines. I may just be content with three 5 round spares, that is, until I get my 7 round magazines in.

The XDs has some stout recoil that may bother some. I am not recoil shy, but there is no doubt, shooters will be faster with the 9mm when it becomes available.

I like the XDs for pocket carry. If I carry IWB or OWB, I can conceal a larger handgun, such as my Glock 27, Glock 19 or, if I dress right, my Glock 20. I can even opt for my 1911. I think the XDs shows its value in deeper concealment carry methods.

Also, there is just something about the 45 ACP.

While the recoil is stout, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Rent or borrow one - it might surprise you.

I absolutely love mine. Hard to think of a better carry gun. Small, light, thin, ACCURATE, 100% reliable, recoil is amazingly easy to handle, and IT's a FORTY FIVE.

I bought an XDs last fall, and after breaking it in, it quickly became my carry piece. I only had one issue with the gun and it was totally my fault. It has a rather heavy recoil spring and takes a very firm rack and release of the slide to chamber the first round. After I learned to not ride the slide into battery, it was flawless.

As far as recoil, I think it has less than my SA40SC, and I know it has less than either my Kel Tec P11 or my PF9. If you keep a firm grip on the gun, it is extremely easy to shoot with a very fast and accurate second shot capability. Now I'm not a big guy, only about 5-10 and 156 pounds, with average size hands. But I don't have the least bit of trouble controlling this gun, and I love shooting it, and usually shoot at least 150-200 rounds per session.

It is also very easy to conceal, actually just as easy as my PF9. I carry at the 1 O'clock position IWB, with a jacket, sweater, or untucked shirt covering it. The only problem is that I just wish they had come out with it before I bought the Kel Tecs many years ago. But in defense of the Kel Tecs, they were very reliable, just not fun to shoot.

I haven't read a bad review yet. I love mine too, and bought it on the spot also. I did go looking though, and got lucky. I traded my Bond Arms Derringer towards it.

I'm VERY happy with my XDs45. Its great all around pistol, with the added benefit of being super easy to carry. ;)

I picked up this excellent holster for ItW, appendix carry form a custom maker on e-bay(texas292). Its well made, with a perfect fit and ride, damn good customer service too....

I just bought an XDs and have only put about 50 rounds through it. I'm very happy with it so far with just one complaint. The brass flies several feet in all directions. I could only find about 75% of my brass.

This works real good too.

I definitely need to find me a good holster for mine.

On another note,. I shot a few mags of 185gr Speer Gold Dots yesterday evening and it handled them just fine.

Here's my new Crossbreed OWB. for me, it works under a standard t-shirt. amazing gun that shoots anything. Don't ride the slide when racking and this thing is a tank.

Maybe I should shoot mine. I've had it for about 3 months now but haven't messed with it.:uhoh:

Lol, it might be time.

I can't go 24hrs with a new gun and not shoot it.

I get home with it and usually take a walk out to my range and run at least a magazine through each one I get.

They are in short supply up here. I'm saving my pennies and hope to get one soon. Short supply equals high prices. I have a couple leads where the price will be similar to the OP.

I thought this one would be too small to be comfortable in my hands. Then a cop buddy let me handle his brand new one that he uses for plain clothes. Needless to say I want one now. It is not as small as I thought.

Sounds good. I would like XDs. Just can't afford it now. Bought an XDm Compact 3.8 in .45 ACP before the XDs came out. Nice, accurate pistol, but a little thick for me.

Some owners on xdtalk.com had their XDs fail to go into battery, which according to Springfield reps is either due to limp wristing or bad lubrication. There are a lot of threads about the pistol on that site, mostly positive, though. Whatever, you think of Massad Ayoob, he also reviewed the XDs positively in "The Complete Book of Handguns 2013" edition. His sample gun failed to go into battery a few times during the first 50 rounds. Fine after that. Not sure what the problem was. He considered it a break-in inssue.

Another pleased xds customer. Rides in crossbreed supertuck, which conceals it easily and is very comfortable after breaking in.

Mine seemed very tight when I first got it and that might be why some people have break-in issues. I couldn't consistently rack the slide all the way to the rear with a fully loaded magazine - which would cause something like a three point jam, thought not as hard to clear.

After one range session, that seemed to disappear. It could just be I was more aware of the problem and started racking the slide with more force or it might have loosened up. Either way, it never failed to feed (or fire) while shooting or when performing a reload from slide-lock.

This is just the thread I have been looking for. I been liking the looks and features of that little bad boy for a while now. I think I see my next gun coming down the road:cool:
