NASCAR renames race....NRA 500

Why does anybody need more than one car?

I think I'll go to the range where it is quieter.

Seems like they're most likely preaching to the choir. Personally I can't think of anything more boring than NASCAR, but I grew up an hr from the Bristol VA race track and I have yet to meet a nascar fan that didn't also own guns.

You're not alone. I tried watching it once, snooze city. I remember my dad was part of a focus group back in the late 90s before NASCAR made its big expansion and was just bored to tears. lol

Great - now maybe they can get more people to watch and demand better action outa those boring Gen-6 cars.

Imagine the angst amongst them given the assumption that we're all pick-up driving, flag waving, NASCAR watching "clingers" already.

Now then, how do we get NASCAR to authorize rifle racks in the back windows of the Craftsman Truck class racers?

NASCAR got boring shortly after the '71 season. Been on the decline since stock cars stopped being stock.

That said, NASCAR is extremely popular, so here's to hoping the publicity helps.

I dunno. I'd like to think my dues and donations were being used more directly for the fight at hand.

I concede I might be missing a bigger picture, but it might take a lot to convince me.

A brilliant move that will stymie the anti-gun media....every time they report on the race they'll be promoting the NRA. That's gotta irritate them.

Making us MORE popular among the NASCAR fans? ... might be carrying coals to Newcastle there, what?

Not sure that goes miles to bring the NRA out of the "sticks" and into the mainstream.

Would be pretty cool to see the America's Cup sponsored by the NRA. Or the US Open Polo Championship. Or (LOL!) the Westminster Dog Show. Or (DOUBLE LOL!) the National Spelling Bee. :) Those would be a trifle less ... "mais bien sur."

I'd like to think that very few membership contributions were diverted into making this happen, but that's probably a vain hope.

Piers Morgan is mad so it was worth every penny. Says it would be like letting tobacco companies do this. Says guns are bad for health like tobacco. HE IS SO STUPID!!!:cuss:

Holy cow that's funny! Pure awesome!

Yeah, can you just IMAGINE if they let a tobacco or alcohol company sponsor a NASCAR race? Why what if it was Busch or Winston!???!!111!!1!

:D That's rich! You gotta hand it to that Morgan guy, he's got a sense of humor!

It's a great move, particularly since the left wing media has been trying to remove everything that's pro-gun from the airwaves. Now they've got something they can't censor. The only BAD thing I can see, though, is the association with NASCAR and rednecks.

Come on guys, you can't fault this. It's part of a comprehensive PR strategy. Rally the base, get fence-sitters curious. It's called taking the initiative. Make the media react to you. I bet half the guys who complain about their dues going to this instead of "the fight" have never even seen a real corporate budget and the value of marketing $$.

That's my hope too. I mean...seriously sponsor John Milius giving history lessons while drunk with my money (actually they should do that), just something a little more expansive vs in the middle of the Venn Diagram. Hell if Wayne hasn't shot his mouth off I'd suggest consumer electronics...like video games...but no we had to burn that bridge.
