Used revolvers becoming more available?

I was stopping at a lot of shops in WNC and Upstate SC a few month ago and I thought there was plenty of revolvers and levers priced pretty reasonable, I bought one. Maybe it has changed over the last few months.

Believe me, it has!

Some used stuff is available around my area in Idaho. Its a mix. But I haven't seen more than a few of anything in display cases for two months.

I've seen a few revolvers at the shops I frequent. Most of what I've seen has been large snubs. Not a whiff of any Airweights, Airlites or LCR's.

Yes. Last find was Nickel-plated S&W 581. If times went unchanged one would not expect to find something like that. S&W must have made about a bushel of those.

I'm in the Piedmont region of NC and you can find some revolvers, but it's hard to find 4" Ruger GP100 revolvers.

Maybe today I'll have to do some stopping around.
Anything semi auto handguns or pistols were non existent. I figured most traded these in for the semi's but I figure when there's nothing left you buy what ya could. Wonder how long this will last?
S&W and Ruger have announced record profits think they will up production or keep the prices high? Or both?

I was also surprised. I as expecting to see some nice S&W's show up on the shelf traded for Hi Cap semi auto's. Sure enough some revolvers were traded in, however they went right back out the door.

In my area I can find Taurus, and Charter Arms on the shelf. A single Action Ruger here and their. Some non name brand 1911's, and things like that.

I went to a local gun show last month. I saw 2 beater Model 60's priced at $600 each. I saw a 6 inch Security Six, and a S&W 640 that I should have price checked. Not another revolver I would have even considered.
The Model 60's were worth about $300 and $350 each at best. I would have wanted to check them for function before I gave that for one of them.

I did see an LCR 22 in Bass Pro Monday, along with a SA Ruger or two. Not a Smith & Wesson in the store. I did find a can of RL17 that I was needing for my 223 Bolt Gun.

The revolvers selling well may be regional. In my area revolvers are still popular.

I can't keep a quality used revolver in the case more for than one gun show regardless of asking price (within reason) so I'd say in my geo-area they are not really more available as asked.

Over the course of the past couple years - coinciding with my own return to spinners:banghead: - I've noted cost and availability both working against me in trying to acquire particular wheel guns and this is long before the most recent scares but of course following the election of the anointed one, so there's that I guess.

Additionally and most likely connected, I never seem to mark vintage and used reloading equipment to a price where it comes home with me as well.

I guess as far as the revolver issue itself is concerned, Colt pulling the plug and no one other than say, Taurus stepping in to fill the void has something to do with the relative scarcity in addition to so many shooters "returning" to the old hog legs like my self.

Here in my area it seems to depends on what shop you go to. A few of my LGS are pretty empty when it comes to a great selection. Most of the revolvers are new production models. But just two days ago I went into one of my favorite local gunstores. This guy always has a great selection of older revolvers, rifles and shotguns. He specializes in nice used firearms. I found a pre-war Colt Official Police 4". I got it for $400.00. His shelves are still full and he said that he's been doing a booming business for the past couple months though in the past couple weeks it's been leveling off.

On the other hand Boise Gun Company - one of our bigger LGS with two stores in the valley - is pretty sparse though prices aren't unreasonable.

I picked up this 629-1 last month for a fair price at a little lgs.
I'm still grinning from ear to ear.

Interestingly, one of my LGSs is absolutely bare. The other is bare of new guns, but has plenty of used. Most of the used guns are of the non-tacticool variety. Revolvers, basic 1911s, 2nd and 3rd gen S&W autos, etc...

Got a great deal on a Ruger Speed Six there earlier this week. There was lots of variety in the used revolver part of the gun case, from Charter Arms to Colt Pythons.

Yes, no lack of them around here. Revolvers... not so much.

I told a my buddy a month ago that revolvers were just a little lower on the "food chain" for all these crazed buyers and would soon be scarce as well. Shotguns were even a step lower in popularity than revolvers and they are being thinned out drastically now.

In my area, if folks are indeed trading their revolvers for autos, there must be plenty of folks snapping-up those revolvers before I see them. The display cases are quite empty. More likely, I think, folks are not trading, just acquiring.

Was in a couple of LGS yesterday. They usually have at least 3 display cases full of used and consignment guns, mostly revolvers. The cases were pretty empty. The few guns were consignments, prices set by the seller not the store, and were priced WAY above sanity. Same with local pawn shops. I had hopes of some good revolver deals. Ain't happening. The guys said anything that comes in for a fair price doesn't last the day.

My LGS has plenty of auto handguns, a couple of revolvers and tons of lever action and bolt action rifles.

They have no ARs, AKs or Minis and NO used revolvers. It seems with the pending magazine limits in CO people are rediscovering revolvers.

EDIT - I should add they have bunches of new and used shotguns. Many folks don't know it, but any shotgun without some hard limit on the end of the tubular magazine is going to be outlawed with the new CO magazine ban. It doesn't matter what it does hold, but rather what it CAN hold - Rem 870 is about to be illegal folks!!

Who'd have guessed CO would be taken over by lefties??
