I have some metal 30 round trippleK mags for a mini-14.
These are new in box.
I have an older mini and I had to bend the feedlips on one side for it to work..
I decided to swap over to the Ruger brand as the mini shoots terrible when the barrrel gets warm. Though for some stupid reason if I went to Ruger mags my groups would improve. Bad thinking on my part.

As it is I keep the mini just because and it never fails to feed or fire. Great rifle for 20 feet plus I have a good supply of Ruger mags

If I decided to sell these new in wrapper trippleK mags what is a fair asking price? I'll say right now the one I used did not feed properly and I'm told all the TrippleK mags need some lip bending to work properly.

Bought a thing or two years ago from a dealer and on the last deal he turned around and dropped an armload of them in my box free.

I have only opened one and tried it. You really need to be patient to get one to work. Thats why I bought the Ruger mag was to see how it is really suppose to look. When you hold them together and compare and measure the profiles the quality shows. Why can the U.S.S.R. make mags that worked every time but a company called U.S.A. make stuff that needs tweaking all the time?

I got one working and I think I'll keep one and sell the rest along with the warning they are a hair better than U.S.A. mags. Yea, I actually bought a U.S.A.mag. I ended up going deep in the snow covered woods in blackface and a fake beard in a stolen car and shot that U.S.A. mag with 25 rds of 00buck. Cleaned up and returned the car and walked an extra 15 miles and switched cabs 3 times to be sure I was not followed. I still carry the U.S.A. mag shame with me. It was a mini-14 mag.

I will give credit where credit is due. I bought a Winchester M-1 that was almost pristine (tiny dent on stock that will steam out in a heartbeat) and also a Universal. The gentleman bought cases of these after the war for $15 each as he was getting older and got tired of cleaning them and keeping them rust free. He was trying to shoot the 30rnd mags out of the Universal with all kinds of problems. He tossed in 2 big full paperbags of mags with the deal. Turns out 25% were 30rndrs and 75% were 15 rounders. I ask why give me all these and he said them mags just don't work but some do.

Turns out almost all were U.S.A except about a handfull (6) were unmarked. All the rest were in plastic bags in grease and 5 bags per each large plastic bag. The 30 rndrs are packed like that and the U.S.A. mags are packed seperate with one per bag.

Also the Universal rifle has problems with every other mag. The Winchester works perfect with all but one so I marked it and will use it as a replacement follower or spring when needed.

I will never modify any of the Mil-surplus M-1s to accept the 30 rounders as I understand they need a better catch to support the weight. I really have a passion for wood and steel firearms. The plastic ones just do not excite me.

Seems many friends are dumping the blued steel and wood rifles cheap so they can but more things to hand off the AR-15s they have now. Fine by me! Bought an old Ithica police "riot" gun that has a perfect blue job. Blue job is so good it looks 10 feet deep.

This post wandered all over the place. Thanks for the word on the trippleK never used a pro-mag thanks for the heads up. In case anyone is not aware U.S.A mags for the mini are junk. I have 4 friends who had U.S.A. mags for the mini-14 and they never worked right.

You are aware ruger rifle and mags are made in the usa as well right? Not a thing Russian about it.

That was kinda my point. The aftermarket mini mags were also made in the USA. My thing with russian AK mags is russia treated the people very bad and paid them just enough to live on and they still mage tough dang mags that worked.
 
The soviet hierarchy really and truly thought we were always on the verge of coming to get them. This was in no small part because of our military support for the Czar's troops in 1918.

So it's no real surprise that they devoted extreme attention to their military manufacturing.

And remember that you're comparing what is essentially a Soviet Mil-Spec magazine to an American consumer discount store item. Would you expect a USGI magazine to stand up to comparison?

Fuzzy... You told the whole story in the OP when you said "dropped an armload of them in my box free." We get what we pay for. Glad you have a good supply of factory mags, for the Zombie apocalypse, stick with them! Your groups were better with them only because you were paying more attention to your target than wheather or not the Mini cycled correctly. As for the Mini shooting terrible, make shure you are using the proper weight bullet for the barrel twist in your Mini, also are you using .223 or 5.56X45? This is where most people complaining of MOS groups. (minute of semi-truck) I shot 150 rnds into an 18 inch gong today, at 300 yds. This was with the factory peep sight. the barrel was very hot at times. Ruger has used different barrel twist through the years. What series is yours? (the first 3 numbers before the dash) You can tell the twist rate and the weight bullet you should be using for your rifle, with that info. Every Mini 14 i've ever owned was a shooter with the proper diet. Not a target rifle, but MOCM ( minute of center mass) I would'nt want to be a target at 300 yards!
 
First 3 on the ser# is 188
Also it says .223 but I run 5,56 in it. I try to only shoot 55gr rounds in it
 
Fuzzy, in that case yours was manufactured in 1994, and has the rate of twist 1:7 it should stabilize 55 gr. but should also be good to go on 68 gr too. You may want to try some heavier to test for accuracy. Also a lot of synthetic stocks, unless bedded, (factory and aftermarket) allow the action to float around causing inaccuracy.
 
I like the 55gr for the tiny bit more speed but also have green tips in case I have to try and shoot through something. I think I will check out getting some bedding done.

As it is now it is all over the place with .223 and 5.56 with all weights. This is the wood Ranch Rifle and it might be nice putting a red dot or even better a scope on it if I can get it to settle down.
 
Funny I use and carry a ruger mini 14 in .223 at work and never do I recall it being able to shoot 300 yards. I could see it maybe with special hand loads or maybe match grade bullets and a match grade barrel but I don't believe the mini can do it without that and I have shot 100% on every shotgun, rifle, and pistol test I've taken. I've been shooting for years and I've never seen it.

What exactly are you saying? That the bullets won't go 300 yards? That it won't group 3 inches at 300 yards? What?
 
My Mini 14 is a 100 yard rifle (3" to 4" groups), or maybe a little more, with 55 Gr FMJ. It is what it is, and a tack driver they are not, at least not the old ones. What it is is seriously dependable and plenty accurate for 100 yards and in. With quality bullets it can do a little better.

As to the original question, triple K mags are, in general, poor quality.

Yeah pretty much. Not with out match grade ammo, and match grade barrel. I'm saying I'm calling your bluff. Without match grade ammo and match grade barrel there is no way possible to be shooting it out to 300 yards let alone 3" groups at 300. No way with factory ammo.
