Just by looking I would say not enough. I usually crimp so the brass is at least flush with the bullet.

Take your calipers to the mouth and see if it's within spec and then do the plunk test.

It looks like it needs a little more taper crimp. The top of the case mouth should be .469 to .471.

Since that round headspaces off the case mouth, it shouldn't be too much smaller than the SAAMI spec, which is 0.473 in diameter at the mouth of the case. Sometimes when crimping rimless rounds like this (incl 9mm, .380, etc), getting them pretty is also getting them under spec. It's not uncommon to get under spec a little bit. Even a lot of factory ammo is. But if you go too far you're asking for trouble.

EDIT: Looking above at BYJ04's post, it seems even the loading books don't have a standard size, but we're all in the same safe range.

.472" taper-crimp case mouth measurement with a .452" lead bullet.

Do not crimp into the crimp groove on the bullet, as the .45 ACP headpaces on the case mouth.

What kind of bullet is that? It looks like it has a crimp groove and is intended for revolvers, as in .45 Colt.

.472 is probably fine, although your gun might like a little tighter. (.470/.471). Adjust the crimp so that the shortest cases get the bell removed completely and the longer cases get .001 crimp, maybe .002, but no more.

guys, thanks for looking...
ok, here I crimped it down to .469 and a good point was made that looking pretty might be playing with my head. I do have a iffy feeling about the headspacing at .469.
Both plunk fine.
I am using 200 grain round nose flat points...I do use the bullets in my 45lc saa.
here is the .469 crimp

Missouri Bullewt sells that bullet as an IDP#5 for use in 45acp as it feeds well in the XD where SWCs wont. I have about 3-4k of them here. I load them so that the entire crimp groove is under the case, just barely. They feed good.

Looks like a good dual purpose bullet, although I like 25/255 Gr bullets in .45 Colt. It would be very easy to over crimp with that bullet, but the OP did a good job with the crimp.

I like your idea of seating it so the case mouth just covers the crimp groove and is laying against the bullet.

The second on looks better, but I like to keep my crimps at .471-.472". I use this same bullet in my XDm45. I seat mine just under the grove where the case mouth lays flat against the bullet at .472", and plunks in my chamber just fine. That said I will be going back to 230gr RN when I place my next order. I like the recoil of the 230gr bullet better.
