My first time shooting a Mosin

I made a sight mover for mine:

Using 8-32 screws, I can adjust the sights 1/32 at a time by one rotation of the screw, keeping things from being guesstimating. Hammer and punch work, but its a crude way to do things in the 21st century.

Brassed case Herters shoots well in my M28 Ski Trooper, and I've had bullets touching at 125 so far, groups better than I can shoot.

Congrats on your first Moist Nugget, it won't be your last.

That's good shooting with iron sights. I'm vision challenged, and compensate with a scope on my M-44. It is fun to shoot, but boy is the yellow tip ammo I've been shooting dirty, and hard to clean after a day at the range.

When I go shooting my com-block stuff, I bring the Red Army Approved Adjustment Tools.


Hammer, Punch, Pliers, Black Tap (No Scratches).

Springfield pm Joshua m smith on this forum he makes a nice after market sight if you really want to see what you and the rifle can do. The other alternative would be mojo sights. If you have an AK or SKS sight pushing tool than that is the best way. If not hammer and punch will get her done! Enjoy the new rifle!

I'll do one better.

PM me any and all dimensions (I sold my sight tool, and have been making several for friends after mine has been zeroed) and ill make you one. I need bottom of barrel to center of sight dove tail, width overall, and bottom of bore to just below dovetail. Send pics too. My M28 will be different than a 91/30.

I use tool steel, black oxide socket heads, and mole skin to keep from damaging finish.

I used the tool, sighted in, and killed several deer in the 2012 Show Me State season with an 80 year old rifle.

Like I said, I've made four... I can make you one.

Edit: dimensions, sadly, do vary. That's why I inquire..if you'd like one in the future.

But are ridiculously expensive. That's why I built mine: penny saved, penny earned.

Mustn't look for a 91/30, they're everywhere...for now.

Quickest way to get it on sights.

Affix bayonet in full forward position. The rifles were generally made to shoot to point of aim thus.

This might look a little odd in the deer fields, but there might be some advantage if hog hunting.

It looks to me like you are doing pretty well for the first time shooting the Mosin!
