Hi guys, well you helped me settle on my first rifle (savage 11VT) and I've finally caught up on funds. Now I want advice on a scope and bipod. I'm wanting a Harris bipod but not sure on size. I have a 6"-9" on my 10/22 that I can interchange for target shooting at the range. What's the best size/length for coyote hunting while sitting on the ground? Also should I opt for a swivel mount?

The rifle came with this combo scope:

...a Bushnell 4-12x40 sharpshooter but will that work for target/hunting? I was going to put it on my 10/22 but the guys over at RFC talked me into a mueller. So what's a good scope for the money? Also should I use the stock rings or get new ones?

okkay i will open the can of worms. you dont say what your budget is i am going to assume its small. first of all on all my center fires i use burris rings don/t have to have inserts but i have. learned from cheap rings. next a bushnell banner in 4x12x40 can be had for abot a bill shipped. the . rings should be about 35.00 , third check arthur brown and ge to get the hand tt
tensin adjuster a cauldwell a harris knock off, spend the extra 20 and get the hand adjuster should be 79.00 or so shipped. think the site is artur e brown. with the money saved by ammo. keep the sharpshooter and rings for parts. it can be used somewhere . mueller is a super scope for a rimfire application. i assumed you were on a budget when i did this you should look at a 6to 9 and a 8 to 13 bto see what u feel comfortable with

As far as the bipod for sitting I like the 19-23" adjustable harris or champion. If sitting I would definitely go for the pivoting one. When prone it's not such a big deal, because you can't pivot that much anyway.

definitely get a notched leg harris.

you want to get as low to the ground as you can. for most people, 6-9" is about right. If you have a very large chest or gut, you will want a longer bipod. Or if you have had a neck injury or something.

Are you referring to bench and prone shooting?

i was referring to bench and prone shooting, yes.

i thought by 'sitting on the ground' you meant prone. if you actually mean sitting, then a bipod is a poor choice.

and look at this product for some good ideas. http://www.hogsaddle.com/
note it is ridiculously expensive, but you can make your own very cheap.
