Maybe I'm just not in the know, but I'd like to see some of our representatives in Congress and the state legislatures put the other side on the defensive. Several of the states have been doing just that. I'm talking about laws that the other side will be screaming about with their hair on fire and fighting with their last resource. For instance: Suppressors made legal under federal law with no state or local restrictions allowed and manufacturers given tax credits for making them integral to the gun barrel. Why should we be going deaf? A federal statute supporting the 2nd amendment by outlawing the requirement of any kind of permit for open carry, or maybe any kind of carry. A federal law requiring the return of lend/lease weapons or other arrangements that may have been made so we can get those M1 Garands and M1 carbines back here and distributed to the populace here. A federal law requiring surplus U.S. military weapons like .45's, Beretta's, M14's, and such to be sold by CMP or some additional outlet. Let them fight to get the select fire models made semi-auto only.

If some of these things have little chance of passage, who cares? Make them spend their political capital and their lobbying money to fight. We need people in office cranking out bills and amendments like this routinely. I'm sure there are more imaginative and more practical people than me, who could think of a lot of things like this.

And when I titled this "Get off the Defensive" I don't mean quit defending, just make that part of the approach rather than the whole focus by adding an offense.

I agree. The thing about the suppressors? Spot on. I would love not to have to go deaf every time I shoot. Even in Europe (where guns are really not even allowed, in any practical sense) they use suppressors. Those only make sense.

Here's another one: Don't pistol grips make it easier for those with possibly carpal tunnel, or some other type of injury disability to the wrist / hand? Yet they want to ban pistol grips?

It would be nice if we could gain back the ground we lost since the early 1900's.

I agree but not many politicians will draft something like that in this political climate. They want to be totally PC even the good ones.

This needs to happen. Currently any "reasonable compromise" involves us giving up only small portions of your rights. If we actually propose to reinstate our rights, then compromise becomes keeping things the same.

Definitly agree, we should go on the offensive and get our rights that were taken BACK!

In the old days there WERE NO RESTRICTIONS ON ARMS PERIOD! and THAT is the way it should be, sure there will be RPG launchers and Artillery pieces for sale but they will STILL be prohibitely expensive and you would only be able to fire it on aproved firing ranges with proper impact areas...think military bases...

Machineguns also will be expensive and you'd burn through ammo so fast you'd go bankrupt on ammo alone unless you have a large enough capital to use.

While I name extreme examples but we should have the choice if we wan't full-auto, supressors, short barrel rifles/shotguns, any other weapons and destructive devices.

The only restrictions will be where you can fire it for the heavier firearms but supressors are a MUST for civilian ownership, that won't mean people will all go James Bond on each other and assasinate each other with supressors.

Indeed, we need to get Suppressors back... children have the most sensitive ears...

Legalize suppressors FOR THE CHILDREN

Since 1968 over 1 million Americans have been deafened by gunfire!

Demand a plan*

*to legalize suppressors.

Arkansas has already done that. We are signing more pro-gun legislation than I ever thought possible here.

From outlawing Bloomberg's illegal tactics, to sealing CHCL records, to taking away the Governors power to criminalize transfer and transportation of legally owned weapons during a declared state of emergency (on the guv's desk, he may veto).

We now have University/College faculty carry. Church carry. A bill introduced to remove Arkansas' conditional reciprocity CC law, to make it more transparent for gun owners from other states, to be lawful.

Open carry has been beaten down numerous times, however. It may become reality with a new governor and some allies.

I also think there is a draft of legislation banning federal, unconstitutional laws (will have to wait that one out, now).

We are going full-tilt with pro-gun legislation since the Obama administration has shown what his gun control facade is really about. How he thinks we, in the south, are just going to lay down our culture and bow to him and his court jesters is beyond me.

I'm glad I removed myself from Maryland (20 minutes from the white house) and came-back to my home state, where some semblance of civility and intelligence rules.

The move was not without its downfalls; it cost my marriage to my first wife, bankrupted me, and I had to start over from scratch. My 2nd wife knows me, I know her, and this time, things are better. We both will make this work. We have for over 12 years!

Sorry for the personal tome, but I really feel for you guys-n-gals in metropolitan areas, and states run amok in anti gun legislation.

I guess what I'm trying to say, if starting over is worth getting personal freedoms, then do it! Move! And I hope those of you who do say, enough is enough, will have the full support of your family, and not have to go through ruination to achieve your goals.

I would suggest that going on the offensive would be more along the lines of

Unregulated suppression devices
Get rid of the stupid SBR laws.

National CCW

expansion of the CMP
to start with make it illegal to destroy stocks, barrels, lower rec, hand
guards, and even that shoulder thing that goes up! ;)

require that all surplus ammo, brass, etc be sold through public auction

Restrict the statutory powers of the ATF to limit the importation of legal civilian weapons.

A friend and I had this very conversation not long ago. Why do we always have to defend our rights to people who are little more than spoiled rich kids? They truly believe that they are the RULING CLASS and they know what's best for us peons. They treat us like children that don't get an opinion. I for one am grown, I don't need a parent or parents to tell me that I can't have a second candy bar or a 32 oz Coke for that matter! If anybody thinks that this is too harsh it isn't. I couldn't post what my Dad said yesterday, it was filled with so many expletives and name calling that sailors would blush.

I find it to be like football. Ever watch one team score and score and run the clock keeping the defense on the field until the poor guys on D are almost falling over with exhaustion? That's what the Anti-gun monkeys are doing.

So why don't we have someone on our side pushing bills against them at insane rates? Where is our champion? Why can't we get mad? Uncle Joe B. has even said (he didn't know he was being taped) that what they are proposing won't fix anything because regular law abiding citizens aren't the problem. You have THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS, not the want, not the privilege, THE RIGHT! It does't say within reason. It says shall not be infringed. You want compromise? Alright, we won't vote you out of office if you leave us alone. On second thought, pack your bags and take your sorry keister down the road.

I'm tired of these never been in a fight, never had to protect themselves or their family, silver spoon licking simpletons telling me that "you just need a double barrel shotgun to fire off into the night". These are the same people that said George W was dumb? This is not the 1880's, criminals have 30 to 100 round rifle magazines. They have 18 round handgun magazines. I won't have them though, because I would follow the law. I've wrote, called, and emailed like no tomorrow. If just one polititian would stand up for what's right he would have my respect and vote for life. I have become a one issue voter, without the 2nd Amendment the rest wither and die.

Let's also charge Hillary, Obama, Feinstein, Boxer, Schumer, Biden Et al for treason in attempting to destroy the Constitution.

Mastiffhound in post number 10 is correct. If you have to be a one issue voter, this Is the issue, because it jumps off onto so many other issues.

Chances are, if a politician is one of those strident, anti-gun freaks, then they have some other issues as well, whether it be a tenuous grasp on reality, or some other affliction, like being a control freak fascist (NYC soda sizes? Really?).

Someone who wants to ban a type of weapon is one who denies reality, like someone who actually thinks the island of Guam would capsize because too many Marines were on it, or someone who lies and says that 'millions of kids' were killed by 'assault weapons', with no basis in ANY fact at all. Or someone who is so stupid, that they think that the shroud is the 'shoulder thing that goes up'. 5 seconds on Google would have answered THAT question. These types of people have no basis in rationality at all. Yet, they are the majority in the world, and many of them write our laws, and many of them have leadership roles our country. We must not forget that.

If a person is a true supporter of the 2nd amendment, then that means they at least trust their fellow citizens with arms. They are also probably relatively well grounded in reality. This goes past party lines. Remember, the last president would have signed the AWB again if it came across his desk. The fight to retain rights and freedom never ends...
