I've been doing some searching for load data on H4831 for the Garand, had a couple pounds of some older stuff given to me. I've only ever used IMR4895 for Garand loads and was wondering if anyone has used H4831 before. Not seeing anything definitive. Thanks guys

I don't see H4831 listed anywhere in my Hornady manual. Perhaps some veterans here can offer further insight, but if it were me I wouldn't be shooting that powder in a Garand. I load 4895 powders exclusively for mine.

On Hodgon's website they list 4831 for high-weight (175 grain to 220 grain) .30-06 loads. Some of the velocities are in the proper range for a Garand but to repeat myself I wouldn't do it.

Nope. Nothing slower than 4064. You run the risk of bending your op rod.

Stick with IMR4895 and equivalent powders in the Garand.

You can use 4831 if you have an adjustable gas plug. Keep the FPS around m2 or m72 FPS. 4831 is one of the most accurate powders I have used in my 1903 with 175g bullets.

Thanks guys, that's what I was thinking, maybe I can pass it on to someone else that can use it, only 30-06 I have is my garand.

4831 is excellent for 30.06 in BOLT GUNS. Would not run it in Garand or Rem autos due to chance of excessive port pressure which will overdrive the op rod.

168 gr bullets and 43.3 to 46 grains of 4895 should work well. 46 gr is the factory dupe load for 30.06 Match.
