Why oh why do they put this stodgy boring, unrelatable clown in the public eye over and over again? I swear just when I think they are doing so well they shot themselves in the foot.

I think LaPierre is an excellent spokesman for the 2nd Amendment. He refuses to accept the "progressive" position that gun control is reasonable, and is clearly not seeking to be "one of the boys" with the mainstream media. His in-your-face attitude says "this is our RIGHT, not something you can grant us or take away from us" and that's the attitude I want to see by the NRA. He's been recently criticized by the media for seeming to reverse the NRA position on universal background checks, but I think he is spot on. First, the liberals refuse to make the checks instant and comprehensive by including the mentally ill, and second, by now insisting on the retention of background check data it is clear that the anti-gun crowd is really looking for back-door national gun registration. If background checks were truly used to prevent those who should not own guns from getting them, and precautions were in place to keep the government from creating any type of national registry, then I think the NRA would again support this concept. I am 100% behind Wayne on this and most other issues.

I think he did well, especially calling the media out asking them where their outrage is over the gun crimes in Chicago.

Wayne is well versed in how the Antis roll their dice. Let us support him as he is the face of NRA for 20 yrs.

I was disappointed that LaPierre and Bloomberg did not get to ask each other questions.

Of course Bloomberg probably would have stormed off to go cry in a corner and that would not make the mainstream media very happy!

LaPierre did okay, but he needs to learn not to accept the premise of some of the questions. He should have refuted the often-quoted premise that some poll says that 90% of American's support an assault weapons ban...Bloomberg started it, and then David Gregory echoed it to LaPierre.

I really did like it, however, when he challenged the media to actually investigate why current gun laws are not prosecuted and how a UBC would do nothing to stop the recent spree killers. Of course the later panel ignored that whole point and just went back to spouting nonsense.

Vito- It's not his points that are the problem, in my mind. It's that, (to quote the movie 'Dirty Work') he has a personality like a dead moth.

As opposed to Ben Shapiro and Colin Noir who are intelligent, articulate, and vivacious enough to be engaging, Wayne just has old boring stodgy energy. Even as a hardcore gun rights supporter, I have a hard time paying attention to him as he bores me to tears. What do you think he does to fence sitters?

Many of my friends are real fence sitters on this issue and I can tell you that the feedback I have gotten from them is that Wayne has zero capacity to be engaging or win the hearts and minds that we so desperately need right now.

In my ideal world, Wayne would step down immediately if not sooner, and Ben Shapiro would get his job.

Why all the complaints about a guy who's staunchly on our side? Do the antis grouse about Diane Feinstein's approach or her personality?

Wayne's the guy, and he's not going to be replaced. Get over your petty gripes and get behind him.

Just because one is a great CEO, it doesn't necessarily make them the best spokesperson. Wayne did fine......but folks will never remember his remarks like they do Charlton Heston. Image is everything on TV and the media nowadays. How many grey haired new anchors do you see on prime time anymore? Sweet talkers get elected and good looks rate higher than brains. Even locker room interviews are conducted by attractive women....... because it sells. And believe me, we are trying to sell something to the American Public.

I just watched it DVR, may go back and pay closer attention (as I did with his debate at Kings College London against Rebecca Peters of IANSA on the UN Gun Treaty).

I wish he had challeged that lawn manure statistic that 40% of gun sales are without background checks. The NSPOF survey identifies those as acquistions.
60% sales at stores.
13% sales between private individuals.
19% gifts between family members or friends.
5% inheritances from dead relatives.
3% trades or swaps between private individuals.

And yes, the proponents of the Universal Background Check have said it has to include a permanent record of the info on the transactions: a national gun buyer registry in fact if not in name. Currently records can be kept on those who don't pass a background check, but records on people who pass the background check must be destroyed; Bloomberg et al. want to keep records on those who pass the BG test too.

NRA originally proposed an instant check system rather than the waiting period when the Brady Bill was first proposed but the anti-gunners wanted a waiting period rather than an instant background check, so they called the Staggers Amendment a poison pill and let the original Brady Bill die rather than include a instant background check. The second go around they reluctantly agreed to let the waiting period sunset when the instant check system went on line. In 1993 the Bradyites predicted it would not be operable until sometime in the 21st century, but NICS was up and running Nov 1998.

I bought a revolver and a shotgun as gifts for my wife at a dealer with a background check. What Bloomberg would want is for me to run a background check on my wife before giving her the guns as a gift.

That's because Bloomberg's a fascist.

Wayne LaPierre does all right. Especially considering that these shows are just one facet of his job of representing us and the 2A. Sometimes, I see where I could have maybe made a better point during a certain time in an interview, but remember, he does well during those, sticks to his guns, and knows how to 'play the game' where it really counts.

THumbs up to Wayne. He is the face of NRA for a good while now. Push comes to shove , he knows what words to say. Folks, do not underestimated W Lapierre, he is the best there is and we re glad we have him there to defend our 2A.

Kudos to him as we face the many fascists of NYC and the Eastern seaboard politicians. They are more resolute now and in the coming days . This is not ending anytime soon.

Personally I am not a big fan if Wayne Lapierre as a spokesperson for the NRA. I like his success as EVP; but I think the NRA can do better. Having said that, I thought he was on his A-game today. That was a tough situation and a hostile room and he was making them eat their stupidity.
