Seems they make a solid (and Heavy!) weapon that is reliable.
NutNfancy on YouTube reviewed one, (C9) and rated it HIGHLY.
Totally reliable and very accurate. So I was wondering about
adding a backup in 9mm (I already have 2, this would slip in the middle)
and it seems like a good weapon to lend out or have as a back-up for
maybe an "under the seat" gun in the old beater. Plenty of good uses
for a cheap and legal "Saturday Night Special" and besides, F-Stein hates 'em!:evil:
 
I had one and as long as you got the mag adjusted right it run just fine and would handle twice the pressure that my glock 17 would. My hi point ate double charges for breakfast.

They have there purpose and are good at it. I never tired to carry it as they are heavy and not balanced well but make a great truck/tool box gun.
 
A guy who wants another gun but has a tight budget buys a Hi Point. They're decent guns especially for the money.

They're not pretty or sleek but they'll get the job done.
 
A guy I work with says he wants to sell his for like $60, but I'm not sure how serious he is about actually selling it. If he is, I'm gonna grab it. Got no use for it now, but I'll find one. They have their place.
 
If had to go to my backup... I'd hope it's more reliable than my primary.

Life has gotten so bad that my primary source of saving my life is no longer available, and I must retrieve my backup. Do I really want to pick up a cheap hope and a prayer at this moment?

2 things, I hope to be well acclimated to all the weapons, (HP Included!)
and the purchase is mainly for arming others who may not be armed with
their own weapons (SHTF Scenario). Buying now allows time to familiarize
with the HP and see if it is a viable option!

I see your point RJ, and hope to find out!

Great Stuff everyone, it seems the HP is proving it's worth more these days.
 
A c9 was my first handgun, bought it in fairbanks 8 years ago, to see if I could figure out what the big deal was about handguns.

It is a very fun gun to shoot.

Some observations: Mine did NOT like truncated cone ammo. (Read as most JHP ammo) Fed fine with the couple that rounded off the nose. Ate normal ball ammo all day and night.

The magazines tended to bind up with steel and aluminum cased ammo below about -30f. As this is common in fairbanks I mostly stuck with brass cased ammo in the winter. In the summer it ate all ammo I wanted to feed it, aside from the above mentioned shape.

I love those little carbines. They're fun and the 2 I've shot were very accurate.

Hi-Points are not throwing up a hope and a prayer. They're big. They're ugly. But they go bang every time in my experience. Like the carbines, I have only fired 2 of them, but they were both very reliable.
We were at the range last weekend shooting .40s, my Sig, my brother's G22 and my dad's Hi-Point. The G22 had a fail to feed. The Hi-Point ate up everything we fed it. So are Glocks a hope and a prayer?
 
The magazines are the weak point. The guns themselves are solid enough and reliable enough once you get the mags adjusted. I have one magazine that always works and another that hangs up constantly; I cannot, no matter how much I tweak and measure, seem to get that mag to run correctly.

My C9 has almost 3000 rounds through it and it still looks brand new. Eats anything from my marshmallow-soft LRN reloads to +p factory stuff with no complaints. I trust mine enough (with the GOOD mag lol) that it's my HD gun.

It's not some pretentious BBQ gun but I think that's part of the appeal, IMHO.

BTW, Loooooooooooove me a Hi-Point thread! In before the lock!

I had a 9mm carbine with no issues, it was fun and pretty dang accurate. If I bought a handgun it would have to be for no more than $100, or less. Be nice to have one that if I ever had to use in case of a home invasion or something I'd only be out a butt ugly, heavy, cheap but reliable gun that I successfully defended my family with. But thats really the only reason I would get one personally.

OK, FINALLY got to shoot my HP! ('s)

Yes, I now have every HP caliber except .380, and if I want a mouse gun
I will get a smaller one for CCW. An HP 380 is way too big, IMO. Same as
a 9mm so I'll stick with the big boy ammo.

Anyway, I shot the C9, the JCP 40 and the JHP 45, and my 995 TSFG.
The good news is that everything fed, shot and ejected 100%! The bad
news is that there is no bad news, if you hate HP's!

Some observations: The 40 is probably the best one to have, snappiest
shooter, 10 rounds, and accurate. The 45 is a real joy to shoot, very
smooth and accurate, easy for a follow up shot! My son (USMC) loved
it, he shot 2 groups @ 10 yards that were stacked up really well, only 1
"flyer" until he dialed in with it. it was only 3 inches off from the rest.
The holes were so close together that he made another grouping so he
could count the shots easier! TRUE! My groups were almost as tight...
The C9 was a decent shooter as well, easier to control than my son's
M&P 9c, due to the weight I guess. Less recoil, but it is bigger too. :neener:

The 995 TS shot well, I was hitting a steel gong @ 40 yards without even
a dial in on the sights. I had so many new weapons out there that day,
that I did not do any sighting in. Range was kinda busy! I also shot my
pre-Sandy Hook AR, very sweeet!
90% Bang-A-GonG with a red dot slapped on there! But this is a Hi Point thread... :what:
 
Thanks for bumping this older thread. I mentioned in post 6 that someone I work with was offering one for sale, but kept hemming/hawing about actually selling it.

Two days ago, he messaged me on my day off and brought it up again. I told him I am off until the 19th, but would see if he still had it; if he had a buyer already to let it go. He said he doesn't have anyone lined up, so might end up with it after all (it's a C9.)

Bought a 40 hp for each of my 3 sons for Christmas few years ago. So much fun I got them each the 40 carbine for their birthday. Don't nock them if you've not tried them. Great value,great fun.

Not talking specifically about a Hi point here but I love how the folks on these reviews shoot a gun 23 times and declare it 'reliable".

Hi-Point would probably make it right but it was time for me to part ways with that pistol; I sold it and used the money to buy a low-mileage JHP.
