A local opinion column has a running blog going on insisting that the resurrection of Michigan militia groups is due to the POTUS being black.

No disrespect, but literally nothing in this response answers the question, what makes gun control laws racist?

You're implying that racial minorities can't buy guns because they live in cities, where gun laws tend to be strict. That doesn't make the law racist, it just makes the constituents dumb. They vote for their reps, and suffer the consequences.

Try here.

BTW how come the only color on the 4473 is white.
"They decided not to send him down to the county school because if they keep segregating down there it's gonna be nothing but bathrooms" -Squidbilliies :D

I've heard that before, but don't remember the specifics. I'm not pro-gun-control at all, but how are gun control laws racist?
I forget the thread, but around here there was a link recently to a collection of data indicating Blacks were 24% more likely to be murdered in a non-right-to-carry city than a city where they could legally carry a weapon for defense. In those same areas, the statistic was nearly opposite for Whites; less likely to be murdered in the restrictive cities (with a higher minority demographic that has been disarmed). That's the basis for saying the laws are unequal in application ("racist" is inappropriate to apply to stats data) today.

Historically, all our repressive laws were based on racism, bigotry, and racial fear. From "Opium/Heroine/Cocaine/Crack/PCP/Marijuana Crazed Negroes," to slave rebellions, to gang wars, to race-riots, to internment, to the Alien & Sedition Acts; fear of minorities has fueled many of our most Unconstitutional efforts (if not all, up to and including our post 9-11 measures).

Michael Moore is a self hating little person. Screaming for attention. Still mentally stuck in that locker in high school, screaming to get out, in the only way he knows how.

are his sources peer reviewed for validity, if not hes dismissed.

next, using his analogy, gun control is clearly racist.

Sorry, please replace 'white folks' with 'European-Americans.' Sorry.

I have been corrected countless times on race by others. Now, I always put "other" followed by "anglo-european." Im not caucasion either, nor white. Ive been around way to many hyphenated americans.

60 posts in 6 hours, is that a new record?

As a non-hispanic eastern european american I can honestly say that the jerk might be right if we count total number of guns owned by each ethnicity. Every gun owner I know owns a mulititude of arms and you could count them many times if counting each firearm seperately.

But, based on statistics (living near Chicago, IL) it would appear that in that city 90% of arms is owned by afro-americams and hispanic citizens of that city. No law abiding white would own a fire arm in the city of Chicago (LOL), or at least any that Gallop would be able to count. (LOL) I personally would like to see the city of Chicago arm every porch sitting Grandmother on the south side with AR-15s and allow them to shoot on sight any gangbanger driving in their neighborhood. That would reduce the kids being shot by drive by gangbangers to 0.

Now as to which race has more guns, I don't have the slightest clue and neither does anyone else.

First and foremost I am not concerned what Michael Moore has to say......

But with that said I dont know if stats are right but ..... to me it means

White 44 %
Non White 27 %
Black 27 %

But I like 98% of population owning guns! :D

Oh And as a side note: I Can now care less what Jim Carey has to say or Do!

i said it was racist originally because the '34 act, while not overtly calling out blacks, put two hurdles on guns that pretty much no black could pass: a $200 tax (ridiculous at the time) and requiring the signoff of the chief LEO. seriously, tell me what sheriff in in the South in the '30s and '40s and '50s would sign off on a black man owning a machine gun?

and i'm pretty confident the gun control act of '68 and other state laws passed in '67 were not a coincidence, following the black panther's armed protest in cali

plenty of other examples if you care to google a bit

I'm doing my part as a minority to whittle away the 90% Caucasian monopoly on gun ownership. Please send your guns to me. I'm supposed to get free stuff as a minority. That's what they keep telling me.

The REAL QUESTION is ......why the heck is a Michael Moore (or anyone else) even concerned about people's race? :cuss:

I really dislike it when people use non-related things like race, religion, etc. to persuade people's opinion on hot button subjects.

Heh. According to statistics, 90 percent of statistics are false. :D

Any statistics on the percentage of the total firearms in the US that are NOT used in violent crimes? Since the other side seems to rely so much on statistics I'd like to use the percentage argument in our favor.

Michael Moore is a race baiter. It's one of the typical fear mongering tactics used to support the continuance of partisan political power.

In this case Moore is less.

Well if guns were "legal" in the few places that they essentially are not, his little number game would be drastically modified. I think it's racist to keep these places "gun free" and certain people "down on the farm"/enslaved.

Many gun control laws prevent poorer people from buying guns.

Many minorities in the US are poor due to having been discriminated against for the majority of American history.

Gun control laws are strictest in cities and urban areas.

Many minorities live in cities and urban areas for historical reasons related to discrimination.

Many gun control laws were written to prevent the "wrong kind of people" from getting guns.

Minorities were considered the "wrong kind of people" for centuries.
Do you charge rent for crutches, or do you pass them out free?
