I started around 1982/83 and used the RCBS RCII I STILL have on the bench. You look at the last photos I posted a few back and you can see it right behind the RCBS Pro 2000 press.

What is this & what does it do?

Back in the olden days, "aristocrats" would turn wood on a foot treadle lathe for the fun of it. I think we got them there "aristocrats" beat by a fair piece no matter the measure.

The picture is after the half hearted repairs.
Lag bolts no beno! I ripped my press off my bench trying to size cast bullets I made too hard.
Since I have through drilled the bench, made steel plates for the under side of the bench, installed a brass plate at the leading edge of the press, through bolted everything and 86ed most of my linotype in trade for soft lead for casting bullets.
One lesson not forgotten soon!

Yea, that's exactly why my benchtop is maple butcher block instead of the 1/2" mdf that came with the bench. Ripped my press right off the bench sizing hard cast 44 mag bullets.

Butcher block is very good for a bench top but so is a section of heavy, thick, solid core door. Got mine from a renovated hospital. You know how big those doors are? Heavy as hell. Have to use 3-4 hinges with bearings in them. Anyway, they make good bench tops. Go to a local Habitat Restore location if you have any and you can find all kinds of things that can be re-purposed for your reloading bench, shelving and storage of supplies, etc.

When I built my current bench a co-worker had a solid core door laying around, from a renovated hospital, that he gave to me. I've had over 600lbs on the bench before and I bet I could have put another 1000 on it.

It's built from 3/4 inch thick, yeah laminated particle board.

The whole desk only cost me $40 so it's all good, it's an old bankers desk.

I seriously doubt I'll ever rip the press off of it again.

My main helper, my oldest Gdaughter. I told her that since she was shooting so much of my ammo she needed to help load it. She loved it! So after a couple 3 hours of watching and helping her I turned it over to her. She loaded 400 rnds of .357. Good kid, most of the time. She's 11.5, God save her Mom, she's gonna be a handful.

MikeS. - Sharing your hobby and your time with your daughter is a sure-fire recipe in making a “daddy’s girl”… forever. Lucky you… lucky her!

Granddaughter but yeah. I started both of my girls and now this one, my oldest G'daughter off at age 5 shooting.

Here's my setup after about 2yrs of loading. Not nearly as nice and stocked as most of you guys but it suits me well.

Shotshell reloading bench and brass storage.


Measly ammo stash.


And of course the awesome 12ga and 20ga Christmas lights.

Just curious if the roaster is for food or do you use it to plate cast bullets or some other task?

It is an old one I used to use to lube cast bullets when I used those, now it has not been used in a few years... In fact I tossed it away last week...

Everyone that reloads is a winner!

I finally got mine squared away enough to take pictures of after two moves and a lot of reorganizing. The big Flat Rate box on the right side of the bench is full of .308 brass getting ready to be fed through the press in the next few days. Most of the powder cans on the left will also disappear.

It's not much but all the space I have in the office. I have most of the brass cleaning, trimming & case prep in the garage.

I built the shelves with shelf pin holes so they are all adjustable.

Still waiting on the 550B.

Nice clean build! Interesting way to make the table height adjustable. Did you clamp it down so that the table doesn't move or sway when using the press? How much sideways movement does that type of setup have?
