If you could have a custom M1911 built on any gun you wanted to your exact specifications, what would those specifications be, what M1911 variant would it be based upon, who would you hire to do the work?

I would pick a Colt Series 70 Repro and send it to Heirloom Precision.

http://www.hp1911.com

A couple of details I'd like are their retro rear sight and the gold line front sight. I'd also have the front strap serrated and the guns edges gently smoothed, and whatever their typical reliability package may be. Not much else.

Personally, I would send a new production Colt Gold Cup National Match to Harrison Custom and have him give it his "Basic Carry" package, with the addition of the installation of a Jardine Tactical hook rear sight and tritium illum'd front sight. Refinished in bead blasted matte blue.

Hmmmmm... I would take a wilson frame and slide. Send it to Chuck Rogers for his dehorn. Then off to Stan Chen for serrations and magwell, then off to Terry Tussey for porting/lightning of the slide. Schuemann barrel and misc bulltetproof parts would round it out.

now to find a large stack of money and many years of patience.

I would just invest in one of Les Baer's models. He can do fancy if you want it.

I am an IDPA shooter.
I don't want a BBQ gun or a carry gun too nice to carry, or a safe queen.
I want a first class IDPA ESP, therefore a full size 9mm with all improvements allowed in the rules. Aluminum frame and other parts as available, my present 33 oz Springfield MixMaster is about right.

About the nicest gun I have actually shot was a Colt extensively worked by Wilson.
I am sure they will tell you a current model all-Wilson gun is technically superior, but it can't be any more accurate, reliable, or better looking than this full house Colt. So a Wilson Classic would do nicely.

I have a plain but very well fitted Pachmayr Colt. That gives me a favorable attitude to Pistol Dynamics and the Liebenberg version of the Combat Special. If he would set up a lightweight.

I sure like the looks of Joe Chambers' guns I have seen on boards and zines. Maybe I could give him a shot, so to speak.

If money and time were no object, then I would look into something by Rogers Precision.

In the here and now probably Ed Brown's Signature Classic Custom would do quite nicely.

Am I the only one who reeeeealy wants a 1911 in .50GI?

I'll take a Guncrafters Model 1, but with a meltdown and redone in hard matte chrome all over. I would also like an arched and checkered MSH with a lanyard loop, and a wide spur hammer and checkered short trigger to match. Give it some Trijicon sights (I like the rear that fits the standard colt dovetail), and a simple set of Hogue cobblestone standard rubber grip panels.

All I need is a nice leather IWB and I'm good to go.

I'm more a user than a collector, so:
1. Bevel sharp edges on bottom of slide
2. Flush pin of slide stop and bevel hole
3. Beveled mag well...not an add-on piece
4. Solid trigger
5. Match barrel/bushing
6. Serrate rear of slide/ejector
7. Serrate top of slide
8. True lines of frame and slide (because I'll be using an old Colt Commercial frame)
9. Contour base of front sight to top of slide

Any top tier 1911 pistolsmith can tune the action and true the slide/frame, but I"d pick one of these and might end up sending it to all three just to take advantage of their specialties:

Ned Christensen - Rear Sight
Stan Chen - Front and rear strap texturing
Bruce Gray - Hardtail grip safety

Full size 1911 by volkmann. Shot one tried to trade my jeep for it and got denied fast
I have a Colt MKIV Series 70 1911 (with the "100 Years of Service" rollmark) and I was thinking about getting on Volkmann's wait list for a retro-fit.

A royal blued Les Baer built with all the look and features of a WWI Colt 1911 (except for target sights), performed with the highest level of accuracy offered by the factory.

If I had the money, I'd get a new SV Infinity Sight Tracker. I have an older SV that I really like, but the Sight Tracker is just plain cool.

Chuck Rogers for my "lookin' at" piece, and Jim Garthwaite for my "user". Since price is no object....
