Better take some time to write these two NRA "A" rated Senators and let them know you are not willing to compromise on any further erosion of our 2nd Amendment.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Talks between two influential senators have emerged as the most promising route for a bipartisan breakthrough on expanding federal background checks for gun buyers, a pivotal part of President Barack Obama's plan for combating gun violence.

One possibility being discussed by Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W. Va., and Pat Toomey, R-Pa., would involve expanding background checks to gun show sales and firearms transactions online, Senate aides said. Sales between close relatives and temporary transfers between hunters may be excluded, but an agreement along those lines could give Obama's guns agenda a significant boost and would be a major expansion of the current system, which covers only sales handled by federally licensed gun dealers.

If you are a constituent of theirs remind them every few days that you expect them to OPPOSE any "universal background checks". Everyone else should be reminding their own Congressional representatives (see signature for easy link) at least once a week.

Please everyone, keep up the pressure a little longer, we've got them on their heels and we can beat this down and keep our Rights. Then we can shift our focus to the state level and start wailing on them there. :D

The problem is most representatives will not consider the opinion of anyone outside their state (rightfully so). Only their own constituents can sway them. For the same reason my representative doesn't take into consideration someone from Illinois or California.

Don't worry, we've all been writing constantly to our representatives, the website that Ruger setup to help us do just that has already had over 5 million letters sent through it. And most of us are contacting our reps in other ways (NRA's website, congress.org, letters, phone calls, etc.)

Keep up the good fight.

My post to both:

You can call it what you like but it is NOT 'common sense gun safety' it is GUN CONTROL, plain and simple. The emphasis is on CONTROL of law abiding citizens. I was disappointed to hear your tired and false rhetoric regarding a 'Compromise Background Check Bill.' The proposed law does nothing to reduce the incidence of violent crime. It only serves to punish law abiding citizens- your constituency, your potential voters. If you have such little respect for my rights than to vote them away based on a sophistic argument of false facts, then it will be my personal goal to ensure that you never disgrace the Senate floor again. I will spend my personal time, my personal fortune and use my voice and any other legal means to ensure that this becomes a reality. I will not rest until you are out of office and relegated to some useless Democrat Think-Tank in some backwater DC office.

Haha nice letter Rimfaxe, sometimes we need to be a little blunt when dealing with the congresscritters.

I've been appealing to reason and logic with facts and statistics for the pasts three months. Clearly with this legislation, we have entered a new phase.

It is repugnant and reprehensible that our elected officials are throwing the 2nd amendment and many of their constituents under the bus. Tim Kaine of Virginia just posted an OpEd in the Virginian Pilot that indicates that he will vote party line on this, even though his feedback to his office is running about 50-50. John Warner is not any better-- touting an NRA 'A' rating to get elected and then being one of the first little bee itches to roll over after the Sandy Hook tragedy.

Look at Tim Kaine's sickening interview on Morning Joe yesterday:

It is just disgusting where this country is going.

With all due respect you lack an understanding of the political system. They have not furthered these Bills, just made sure it gets to the floor for an actual vote so the real supporters of these Bills can be identified and targeted for being unseated.

If they vote to PASS (not discuss) these Bills, then your post will be accurate.

I understand the political system. Them voting to debate this bill, keeps it alive. Therefor, furthering the bill...

They would not have made this "deal" if they didnt have the votes. This is going to make it through.

Thank you! I was just getting ready to post this. These guys are traitors to the Constitution and apparently do not take their oath of office seriously.

I've allready given Heller a piece of my mind, and Reid allready knows what I think of him. Also yesterday the Republican Party gave me a call asking for a small donation, I politely told them I would not support any Republican that would support gun control and the repealing of my 2nd Amendment rights. Afterall I elected them to uphold the Constitution not destroy it.

It's time we raise :cuss:

I hope all of us here are emailing, calling these hacks, and encouraging others
to do so.

We can't stand by and be silent.

I've been flooding everyone, both in and out of state reps that are borderline on gun control, as well as those who have been good in the past. We have to continue to support our allies and also work on those would be on the fence. This week is crucial! That Ruger website is fantastic.

With all due respect, bwahahahahahaha. Please! Voting for cloture absolutely furthers those bills.
