This is a GP100 3" that I picked up used at a local gun store.

It was filthy, leaded up, and had a bunch of scuffs on it. It also had light surface rust under the stock Hogue grips. It had been rode hard, and (literally I guess) put away wet. Mechanically, it checked out, so I grabbed it.

I cleaned the heck out of it, and used Flitz to clean up the appearance. I found the grips on eBay from a guy in Thailand and they have good fit and finish. Now, the gun is off getting a trigger job.

(Please pardon the Glock gun mat, it is just what I had handy)

Hmmm. Didnt realize that Ruger made the GP-100 without adjustable sights. Ran over to the catalogue and sure enough. The 3" models are fixed sights. Learn something new everyday. Nice find and resto work. I'd of picked it up at 400 bones myself.

Yep, I have a GP-100 with the Half-Lug 4" barrel, with fixed sights. Just got it recently, cleaning/mod it to be one of my EDC...Bill.

Very nice save and clean-up there. The new grips with the Ruger medallions were the perfect finishing touch to your very worthy rescue effort.
 
That fine revolver will last a loooooooooong time! Good barrel length too. You scored, and the clean-up job looks to be first rate.
 
The best trigger job you can give it is a lot of double-action firing. I learned my lesson long ago about letting a gunsmith "smooth it up"; will never do that again.
 
GP100 = Great deal and fun shooting!
After the trigger work look into giving the front sight a replacing with a green fiber optic?

He does.

However, when I got mine, I just bought them for a "buy it now" price of 40 bucks, and he had quite a a few sets of grips in his inventory. Right now, he only has a single set of GP100 grips and they've been bid way up.

I'd just check back and see when he makes a bunch of new grips.

I recued another 6 series - which I find having the best trigger characteristics of all my Ruger revolvers. I gave it a trigger job my self and brought it back from a pitted gun with thin brownish patina with a lot of tender loving care, spell a complete rust bue job. Paid about $150 for it a few years ago, which included an extra set of Pachmayrs that I traded for the adapters, a nice leather holster and about 100 rounds.

Those opportunities come up less and less often.
