I recently purchased a Gen 3 Glock 17. Great pistol I shoot it really well. Something maybe to consider: I also purchased an Advantage Arms 22 conversion kit for the Glock. Now I can run 22lr (which I have a pretty good stash of) for practice along with 9mm. Works great and allows me a lot more trigger time on the Glock for less money. I shoot quite a bit and in about 2 months have already paid for the 22 kit in ammo savings. Don't think there are currently any conversions kits for the S&W.

Holding one is a lot different from shooting one
I've experienced all of the combinations:
Feels good, I shoot it good.
Feels good, I shoot it poorly
Feels bad, I shoot it good.
Feels bad, I shoot it poorly.
If you can't afford a mistake in your choice,, put the effort into finding a way to try before you buy. OTOH either Glock or S&W M&P should be fairly easy to resell without losing your shirt.
With the M&P you have three different back straps to try to adjust the feel in your hand. The Gen3 and older Glocks are what they are, the Gen 4 offers some different back straps -- which made a world of difference for me, but I still prefer the M&P.

Wow, that's a really good point. I had not considered a conversion kit. That would save me a lot of money learning how to properly use it.
In the event I go ahead and order a M&P 9, is there anyway to tell if I am getting the new trigger and not the old trigger?
