Well, I stopped by Academy yesterday to waste some time and to my amazement they had S&W Shields in 9mm and .40! The price is now up to $450 compared to $400 pre-craziness. I passed on it and left the store kicking myself for not getting one.

So, this morning I thought I would stop by and see if they had any ammo and if, by chance, the Shields were still there. By luck they still had them in both calibers. I lucked out and got the last 9mm! I will post pics later.

I had been debating between the Shield and a Kahr CM9. The Kahr is smaller and more concealable but holds one less round. They both fit my hand well but the Shield has a few features I like better and I love my other S&Ws.

I should have picked one of these up when they came out at $400 but oh well. I am happy with and look forward to testing it out!

Not that you haven't seen one before but here she is! I almost bought it in .40 but I don't feel like getting into a new caliber right now even though I like .40S&W.

I paid $449 +shipping + FFL for my 40, and I do not regret it. Finest compact/subcompact I've ever laid my hands on. S&W has got a winner with those Shields.

PS. It may be a little tight when new. Some break-in is in order.

Sweet. I looked and looked for a Shield and couldn't find one. I settled on a Glock 26, two weeks before Sandy Hook.

Paid $432 OTD for mine(9mm). It really is a fantastic gun. The recoil is very light for its size and the trigger is also pretty good. I think it lives up to the hype. Plus they are still fairly rare and have that "ooooo" factor when you pull one out.

I have a Kahr PM9 which I like a lot but had the Shield been out at the time I would have likely gotten that instead as I'd like the option of the thumb safety and its current list is still $100 less than what I paid for the PM9. However, the PM9 is smaller and one can get higher cap mags.

Just me maybe, but for this platform I would greatly prefer the 9mm. .40 is a bit snappy for this platform for me, and (when you can get any at all) 9mm has a broader palate of ammo to select from. Match the ammo to the gun when us serfs get to buy it again and you have got a winner. Great deal too, glad to know that it's still possible.

A lady I'm teaching to shoot found this case at Wal Mart in the drug department, diabetes section.

The Shield and extra magazines fit perfect. The case only costs about $9.00. I'm going to get a couple more.:)

Sometimes you find what you're looking for at Walmart in random locations. Nice case.

I just picked up a shield too in .40, and love it. The only downside is that most of the good holster shops seem to have bad backlogs currently. I have a projected 8 week wait on an IWB from PJ holsters and a pocket holster from Alabama Holsters. I finally broke down and ordered an Infidel from Comp-Tac so that I could carry the shield sometime before June.... There is alot to be said for a 5 day wait vs an 8 week wait.

Congrats on your new Shield .40!

Getting a good holster is my next task as well. The challenge is finding any that are available.

Check out Tommy Theis holsters - 2 to 3 weeks turn around, but he makes great IWB holsters!

Be careful using holsters made for the Glock subcompacts.
Mine fit great until it dumped the magazine in the seat of my truck just before getting out. I had to do a little leather removal to let the mag release button clear the holster.

I though about picking up a theis holster, but now I have 3 holsters on order so I should be well set up in a couple months. I actually talked to the Comp-Tac folks today, and I should have my Infidel next week. I might still pick up a hybrid type holster in the future if these holsters don't work out.

In addition to theis, both Talon Tactical and Comp-Tac are shipping out holsters without much wait.

Edit:
Congrats on your new Shield .40!
Thanks, I'm really happy with it!

Yeah but the PM9 looks kind dumb with that funky looking extended mag.
The shield on the other hand looks natural. We do like our shield we have. I don't care for firing without the extended but that's because I can't get a good grip with both fingers on grip with the 7-rnd. With the 8 though it works great!
And yes the spring is pretty tight fro a while. Hoping we finally are able to get enough rounds through it to loosen it up a bit.

Great purchase. Best of luck with it.
