Most Accurate and Consistent Velocity .308 Ammo?

a person would think bitter root since that's what army marksmanship team uses...

if you need something super accurate your best bet is to start reloading, measure and trickle every single load to perfection and mess around with different powders and bullet weights till you find one that makes your gun purr like a kitten...

no factory load will ever perform as well as one that was loaded by hand.
 
Like anything it depends on the rifle. I have a M70 30-06 that LOVES 165gr Remington corelocs. It will shoot them almost as good as my premium hand loads.
 
Federal Gold Medal Match is pretty much the standard for anything widely available.

Not saying it's better than some small manufacturer like BVAC, but more widely used.
 
Federal Gold Medal Match 168 or 175, whichever is in more constant supply in your area.

Hornady and Black Hills make some very good target loads as well. Look for anything loaded with a Sierra MatchKing bullet pretty much.
 
When the service teams shot M14s the gold standard was Federal Match 168s. The Marines wanted theirs loaded with 3031 and the Army had theirs loaded with 4895 and Federal used ball propellant in the over the counter match.

For the M1A and bolt gun a good middle of the road load was 40 gr. 4895 and I had several 9X cleans at 300 rapid fire with this load. Generally accuracy wise and for barrel life enhancement stay off the hot loads.
 
Core lokts are just as good as anything - without the expensive price tag. I have found my 308 likes 150gr vs 180gr though. Just depends on your rifle.

Core lokts are at best equal in price if not more expensive than Federal Gold Medal Match. In my neck of the woods FGMM is about $1/round when it is in stock.

Fed Gold Medal Match & Black Hills Gold (or handloads even better).

Both are loaded to the same velocity 168gr @ 2650fps or 175gr @ 2600fps and both shoot very well in my rifles. If your rifle won't shoot these there usually something wrong that needs fixed IMO.
 
The most consistantly accurate factory ammo I have used is Federal GMM.

In 223 I have found Hornady TAP to be very impressive as well.
 
Georgia Arms 168 match grade has worked great for me since 94 or 95.
 
Find out what your rifle likes. From your post, you appear not to have much experience shooting. It takes alot of practice to reach the full potential of "target grade" ammo. Start out with off the shelf ammo that your rifle likes, then when you are to reliablely keep all the shots in the X ring, move up to the higher grade ammo. Eventually, you may need to reload your own to find the maximum potential of your rifle.

This is what I do. Shoot the cheap ammo when having fun shooting. The only exceptioon is my M39 Mosin Nagant. It shoot under one inch groups with out of the box Privi 150 gr sp. I found this out by buying a box of that ammo to get some reloadable brass. Don't need to reload now.

It takes a long time to precision shoot. I have been shooting over 50 years and I have not reached that level yet. Mainly because I don't have the desire to reach that level. However, I would hate to get into a gunfight with me....chris3

2. Federal Gold Medal Match
3. Black Hills Match

The Handloader has to be on his/her A-Game to load better ammo than FGMM, but it can be done.
