Were these the longest four months of your gun-owning life?

I did my letter writing even though I never thought there was much of a chance that any sweeping new restrictions would fly at the national level or in my two states. I was correct, so far.

I still think the antis are not giving up, but I still think we will keep winning.

I wasn't too worried about the legal end until Coburn started talking turkey with them. That scared me. Still does.

But the big impact has been at the business end where the shops are swept clean. I'm going to be shifting to black powder this summer because of it. I'm afraid the days of carefree shooting letting the 5.56 brass fall where it may are gone.

I can take the shortage, but a review of the forums has been very disturbing. ..................

In Maine, we have "moderate" Susan Collins, and "Independent" Angus King.
Read that Socialist and Communist, so, yeah, I was concerned.
They both voted for UBC,as it was a "reasonable,fair" bill.

Don't whine. Vote the bastards out.

Seen most of it before

At my age I wasn't too perturbed at all, I wrote letters to my federal reps but I carried on loading and shooting as usual. Been through all this guff before. No I didn't disclose my age but lets just say I have had a CCW for over 40 years.
Had a few chuckles at some of the alarmists and "chicken little's", With that said, we don't need to get complacent as it will happen again.
My own feeling wont be popular but I think we could really take the High Road and offer some suggestions and alternatives to the weapon bans and NCI checks.
I really think we could take a lot of wind out of the sails of the real fanatical anti gun crowd by offering legitimate well though out realistic actions that would at least try to avoid instances of mass shootings etc.
Most of us are pretty decent individuals and were heartbroken at some of the incidents of the past few years.
SO instead of constantly being on the defensive,. Lets go on the offensive in a polite and rational manner.

Life as usual. That last six months of the 1994 ban was the worst.

I have been through the first ban. I knew they would be hard pressed to get anything like this passed. The UBC proposal had me sweating though with all the turncoat support Manchin Toomey got. I was wanting to buy some AR lowers and more reloading supplies and that was making me mad tat this BS was going on.It's over for now so maybe everything will return to the shelves and prices come back down to planet earth.

We won the battle, but the war continues. I'm glad to be able to stopt he emails for now, but we have to remain vigilant.

1994 was OK for me because there was no Internet and by the time I knew what was going to happen, it was too late.

1999 post-Columbine was my first big Internet organizing against gun control. I thought we were going to lose that one for sure, so that was a big surprise. It helped open my eyes to how powerful this medium can be for organization.

2004 - S.1805 and the eventual death of the AWB was probably my favorite though.

All of those were much more tense for me than this one since I had previous experience and learned to count votes better.

No. But I've been trying to understand why the masses mostly panicked over a perceived future ammo shortage, which has no rational basis.

Those of us who have stored ammo since '08-'09 have just been waiting for dry weather to shoot. It will soon be too hot and humid.

No i had plenty of ammo mags and guns going into this. A couple bricks of 22lr is all i really need right now, i should be good through the end of the year. But over all i can't complain i was even able to sell a couple guns and up grade with no money out of my pocket.

Yes, it has been stressful. I hope we don't all think we kicked their booty and we can go back to doing our thing.

It's never over. But lets maybe write a few "atta boy" letters to those who supported us. I have to write a few and say thank you for voting the way they did. Coburn is one of them. It looks like he was smarter than I gave him credit for. Seems he voted in favor to get an actual vote, then voted it down.

Longest four months? As in trying to find ammo? When one has to wait in line while the truck is unloaded and hoping that they have ammo tells me that it is still going on.

Or the waiting to see what gun control measures are introduced or passed? Well the last four months were hell for gun owners in CT, NY, CA, CO and MD. Whatever gun rights we got passed in the last decade seemed to be at stake and the negative media onslaught from the politicians to the Hollywood left was incredible.

Just this morning on the local morning news, they implied gun control is not finished and 'compromises' are still being sought. Meantime a Senator has talked about restricting black or reloading powder. So much for a way around the ammo shortage. 1994 was bad, but this time it seemed they pulled out all the stops.

If it wasn't for the internet and the momentum of the concealed carry movement, this all could have ended up looking more like the Brady II proposals http://www.volokh.com/posts/1190402417.shtml.

And they are not finished yet, several anti-gun politicians have stated that they will try again.

Not to say that the war is over but this battle certainly did wear at me. We all should be able to remember the fear that was flowing strong around here, the stress, people talking about sleeplessness, and of course the panic. It's nice to be on this side of that battle.

I would include the month leading up to the election because I knew if Obama was re-elected something like what is happening was inevitable. Some accused the NRA of scare tactics leading up to the election, yet as usual they knew better than their critics.

I last bought a gun in Dec 011, I last bought ammo in Aug 012, don't know if I ever buy another gun but I may need to buy ammo at some point.

In my 50 years of firearms ownership, the past 4 months were hardly "the longest four months of your gun-owning life". Not even close.

It ain't over yet. The danger is greater now than before the vote earlier this week.

I've got more important (to me) concerns going on in my life.

Yep. Learn from them. Be prepared for next time, because there WILL be a next time and we may not see it coming until we hear it on the news.

Yes it probably was. Didn't loose much sleep but, and it's happened before for other reasons, sold a gun that I probably wish I had not. However, once I replace it with what I am called an "unbannable" replacement (yes, I know, I know, the antis will never stop until they have all our guns, yes, yes, I know) I'll be over it.

It will in fact take two to replace the one. The first one is already in hand with ammo. The second, a pistol caliber lever gun is within reach and I already have a lot of ammo. Saw some real nice ones in 44mag but I have none of that and even when plentiful, that's expensive until I get to reloading (probably a post retirement thing at this point). So .357 it shall be there.

So yes, this has not been a happy time as a gun owner even if the sky doesn't fall.
