With horrible new gun laws in CT, ME, CO, CA, NY, and other states it is a deluge of new laws.

How can they reverse these new gun laws? Will it be through the courts, through the legislature, or will many of them not be able to be reversed?
.

Some might be courts, some might be legislature if things go well in 2014. All of them will be able to be reversed with the right support. 60 years ago, concealed carry was unthinkable, now it's in every state. I think CT could be difficult however. They feel like they have a personally vested interest in stricter gun laws given that Sandy Hook happened in their state.

After 2014 possibly, but I doubt it will happen this year. Those states already debated and voted on the legislation that was passed, so unless it's members change their minds all of a sudden, it will probably stand at least for the near future, barring a court decision. I seriously hope that a NY court finds the SAFE act unconstitutional. I hear that upstate NY is much more friendly to guns than the city is. I don't know who the court is made up of.

only chance to undo them in CO is to replace all the legislators with gun friendly versions. This would require a change in the dominant party since the party leaders in power would (and could) bury any repeal. It'll all come down to the 2014 elections.

There is a possibility of the courts but it is a slim hope, the versions here are less onerous than versions in other states.

Joining the NRA and other gun groups is a good start.

Politicians are scared of large blocks of voters with like opinions.

With just about 4 million members the NRA gets the politicians attention now.

With about 30-40+ million NRA members the politicians will be scared to even say "Gun Control".

What's the new horrible gun laws in Maine? I'm from Maine and most of my family still lives there so I'm curious.

I know there were some horrible new gun laws being proposed there but I wasn't aware that anything has been passed yet.

I would hate to see Maine go down like so many other New England States, I would someday love to move back to Maine but I won't if new gun laws get passed:(

In California it will have to be the courts. The liberals have pretty much taken over the state and they didn't do it on their gun control agenda.

I know little about politics. But I do know that the anti's seem to come up with a lot of anti gun proposals. Some fall by the wayside, others get to committee, some go on to a vote and some are passed and signed into law.

Generally speaking, how much does it cost, how much time is involved to get a pro-gun proposal written up and introduced? I think all one needs is a sponsor? Is there a fee involved? Could it be possible to introduce a whole lot of pro-gun legislation on a regular basis with little money?

I mean the other side seems to come up with all these gun grabbing laws, why can't we come up with a whole bunch of pro-gun laws on a regular basis?

If the basic requirement is just to write up a piece of pro-gun legislation. We can get together, brainstorm and write a new piece of legislation every week. And attempt to introduce a new bill every week or two. I'll bet there are some pro-gun lawyers who would be happy to help out. Maybe some might have connections to the political process.

In short, if they can come up with a lot of new anti-gun laws. What is stopping us from coming up with a lot of new pro-gun laws? Even if a lot of it doesn't pass or gets introduced. It still can send a message that we are not taking it lying down. Also for every new piece of pro-gun legislation (whether it gets into the system or not) is an opportunity to send out a press release and publicize it. Somewhere down the line it will get some media attention. If we do this enough, maybe it can work in our favor.

I go with #5. Trying to deal with this bunch was impossible.....agenda was set and it was like dealing with a stone wall! In Colorado, even scheduled meeting with the electeds were cancelled with no notice. At capitol hearings, people were not given alloted times and elected twittered during testomony.

2014 will be our last stand. If we cannot turn back the tide in that election cycle I fear it may be too late. Right now the big picture plan is to let the liberal states impose more restrictive laws trying to outdo each other. If the Dems maintain power or forbid take the House look for them to use interstate commerce laws to impose these newly passed restrictions on the free states.

Vote out any anti-2A politician, and then get influence on the local, state and Fed level on who appoints judges. Only elect pro Constitution judges, not liberal activists who want to legislate from the bench.

2014 will be the benchmark. There needs to be a purging of all those that voted for more gun control laws. It needs to be 1994 all over again. Politicians don't forget that. It is the reason the AWB was allowed to sunset.

Trying to change laws requires the changing of the minds of the people who put them in place. If the laws are reactive, illogical, and created by close minded people who are uneducated and/or afraid of guns, then there is very little hope of changing anything.

IMO the best thing we can do is stay calm, reasonable, and debate the issue with kindly worded examples and logic. Work on/with the people you know in your personal lives. Demonstrate the illogic of what they support. Share stories with these people. If we turn the voters, we change the laws eventually. We must exercise patience.

Waving a sign and yelling demands at city halls will get us nowhere. That is why I have never and will never take part in a "protest", "demonstration", or "march". I do not believe they work, as the normal human reaction is to shut down, or become angry when people are shouting at you. The message is lost then. The quiet protests are far more effectie IMO.

Write letters to your senators if you live in the oppressive states. Eventually they will have to listen.

I for one will not live in any of those states either. Remember to vote.

The 2014 primaries will be the key to victory in the 2014 elections. Make sure if you have a Senator up for reelection in the 2014 election that a strong 2nd Amendment supporter makes it too the ballot fpr the 2014 general elections. You need to get involved. You can run for office or join a campagin, you can donate time and money, talk with your neighbors, hold fund raising events or just sell everything now and find something else to do because this is a do or die situation.

As for the US House see above. We need strong 2nd Amendment supporters in Congress.

Remember you can make a difference but only if you get in the game. Sitting by and letting others do the job is not acceptable for supporters of our Bill of Rights. The time to start is now.

We look forward to having you back.

So far one new gun law (The only one the Govenor will ever sign...)

It is now illegal to release the names and addresses of CCW Permit Holders. Passed with a huge majority.

There are twenty plus other laws being proposed, but SAM and the NRA are fighting and winning.

Colorado, maybe. The rest? Meh

I'm hoping that the situation in Co can be turned around with the 2014 elections and/or lawsuits. I'm afraid anything we can throw at CN, NY, MD, etc will be too little two late (although I will support lawsuits in NY also, in hopes of a partial rollback there).

We need to win back Colorado, and make gains in some other states (for example, WV is a big union state, the party that tends to vote for gun control tends to do well there. After seeing Manchin's performance, those folks might start voting with the RKBA in mind. Same with Co after this last fiasco).

Those of us who are members of the NRA need to continue to encourage them to change their "report card" grades. They currently have a huge bias towards incumbents, and don't score on procedural votes. They don't need to go all the way to where GOA is, but more than halfway. They need to change the system so that our newly awakened brethren can look at a candidates NRA ranking and have it actually mean something.

After that, we continue to take new shooters to the range, continue to fight defensive/holding actions, and we wait. The cesspools that have passed even more gun control will see crimes skyrocket as more of the honest people are disarmed. We our here in free America can point to them and their failed policies when more of this garbage is proposed.

Ready? Break!

Dsbjax, you're 100% correct. 2014 and 2016 are about last hopes. M

The ways to defeat the laws are:
Courts - although they are now political and we are or have lost the seperation of the branches
Voting - vote the bums out but that won't help in liberal states with a liberal population
Boycott - skip the Colorado vacation and go to Wyoming or Utah.

The last option is unthinkable...

Good point.

The AARP has an estimated 40 million members and they wield under-reported power. If the NRA were to even double it's membership ranks, it would help to make a huge difference.

Combine that with targeted lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of some of the more absurd laws, and we have hope.
Also the NRA would be a part of some of these lawsuits going forward, so more members would be a win-win for the 2A.

There's a LOT more that needs to change besides the new gun laws. The politicians in this country seem to have forgotten, or learned to ignore, the simple fact that they are supposed to be working for US, THE PEOPLE. We, THE PEOPLE, are supposed to be in charge here, not them. They are supposed to do what WE ask them to do for us, not us do what THEY dictate to us. Every new law should be put to a vote, BY THE PEOPLE, and ALL of the people, not just a select few.

Our whole government has gotten way out of hand and needs to be cleaned up and put back on track. The concept that idiots in office are able to just dream up things and shove them down our throats as new laws has got to end. The Founding Fathers had it right, but after they all died off things started going to Hell, and it's just been accelerating ever since.

Short of a strong SCOTUS ruling that all of the BS the Dem Supermajority is ramming down our throats here in California is unconstitutional, we are hosed, they hold a 2/3 Supermajority so even if the Governor vetoes any of them, they can override the veto. We are hosed here, don't let this happen in your state.

We cannot count on the courts. POTUS had his agenda and is pushing it on all (I would love to have him be a lame duck this term). He has also chosen like minded people to go into the SCOTUS. He may also be in the position to add two more. That is s scary thought.

The problem is the people. When I was in EU they were calling Americans stupid. Not because of our guns but what is valued by the individuals. They want to know who is the next Top model, American Idol, Survivor, Artist, celebrities spouse, Facebook, Twitter, etc and how the govt will keep them safe so they enjoy the next distraction instead of the "excrement" our leaders are spewing on the world. The only problem that I had with what was said was that it was true. I fear for what we, as a country, will let them get away with because we aren't paying attention.

Justifying my means with their end.
