Trouble with Sellier & Bellot Primers LNL

The problem is the anvil sticking up a little higher, which essentially makes it thicker. While I love my LNL press, I prefer to prime all my brass off press, no matter the caliber. I insist on all my primers being .004" below flush, and that's the only way I can guarantee they are.

while i load 9mm on my LnL, anything S&B is promptly thrown in the scrap pile. stuff is junk.

I bought 5,000 S&B SPP a few months ago.
Now I need to check if they will function with the LnL.
Just one more thing to worry about now.

S&B brass is excellent brass, but I have no experience with their primers. You might try cleaning the slide track on the LNL and see if that helps. Sometimes a little debris can cause big problems.

I have had good luck with S&B primers. I've had 2 that didn't fire on first drop of hammer but did on 2nd try... They seem a little softer than other primers because when I seat them sometimes the push rod on my hand primer leaves an indention. With the current market, I am thankful to have some... Good luck...

Good friend had a LNL progressive when they first came out. He really liked the press, but he too had problems with certain brands of primers. He finally went to priming off the press and that cured the problem.

I have an LnL AP also, and I learn't early on to prime off the press

Some people have used a coin in the press to give the primer punch a little push. After a while the punch creates a divot in the press and may not be pushed up as high resulting in some primers not seating deep enough.

I only press prime on a progressive so the primer system must work. I have seen this a few time with Win primers on a LNL. What you need to do is bevel the sled primer hole slightly to remove the sharp edge. If you measure the height of the primers they may actually be shorter. When this happened on a friends LNL he was thinking high and so was I, but it was the opposite. This will allow the spring of the sled to pull the sled forward. Make sure the track is polished as well as the bottom of the sled for smooth operation. If the problem persist try only a few primers in the tube to reduce weight. With the win primers it did it on as little as 10 primers. This is when I started measuring the ones not feeding and discovered the height was shorter. Knocking that sharp edge off allowed the sled to move under all conditions. Now if you find the primers tall, put a piece of paper under the primer base unit to raise it 0.003".

I have no problems with S&B primers or S&B products in general. I have never had a dud in over 25k of all sizes of primers. I use an old Dillon 450 which still works great after more than 30 years of steady use. The brass is excellent and I especially like the tight primer pockets. They seem to extend the usable life of the brass and to allow more reloads. Good luck with your LNL problem. Wish I could help you but have no experience with that product.

Push the handle all the way down raising the shell plate all the way up and remove the primer plunger. Clean it well, very well. Lube it with a light oil like 3N1. Work it with your hand several times and repeat the cleaning process again if needed. Re-install it.

Mine did this and the process above stopped it.

Get a bottle of compressed air, like they sell at office supply stores and probably WalMart. Use it to blow out the primer ram prior to the reloading session.

Sometimes the primer slide will pull the primer guide wire away from the seat at the bottom. This is all caused by the same thing.

I laughed at the comment as well - pointless waste of print. S&B stuff is just fine.

All components will vary in dimension a bit and some equipment doesn't handle that variation as well as other equipment. My Square Deal didn't really like CCI primers, so I don't use them in that press. Easy solution.

It's especially funny because the OP was complaining about S&B primers, not their brass. I also like S&B brass, it works just fine for me... I have never used their primers so I can't comment but I doubt there's anything wrong with them.

I have used their primers for .38 special and using a Lee safety primer with no issues. The rounds all went bang.

Can't address the S&B LPP's in a LNL directly, but I've not had a single hiccup with loading S&B SPP's in my LNL. Matter of fact, there hasn't been a large or small pistol primer that has given me a lick of trouble in the LNL. The only modification I've made is to glue a small piece of hacksaw blade to the base to cover the indent made by the primer seating punch.

S&B 30 Tokarev cases are the finest made.

Although I load on a different press, S&B primers have always done their job.
