Are gun enthuiasts obsessed with guns?

Is my mother obsessed because she owns a hardback and softback copy of several classic books? Is Jay Leno obsessed because he owns many different makes and models of cars? As long as the individual isn't doing anything illegal or isn't putting his family in debt by compulsive spending, I'm all for it. If supporting an industry that gives millions of Americans jobs and protects are basic freedoms is "obsessive", count me in!

If someone wanted to ban bologna sandwiches and tried to take the one I'm eating, they could paint me as sammich-obsessed. If we didn't battle for our rights everyday, guns would return to commonplace.

Different times in my life I have ridden snowboard more than 100 days a year...I have hunted more than 100 days a year...I have driven my kid to swim meets and practice more than 100 days a year...I have pampered vegetable gardens more than 100 days a year...I have fished more than 100 days a year, and in every month from a boat on Lake Champlain...And yes, I have shot paper, clays, and tin cans more than 100 days a year...Etc., etc....

Are any of these 'fanatical' or 'obsessive'; or are they simply deep felt changing interests throughout a well rounded life?

6 of one,
half dozen of the other...

I am a gun aficionado.

I am not "obsessed" about the guns PER SE. I do strive hard to be safe, shoot straight, keep them in good order, buy & use the models of most interest and use to me, and promote the rights expressed by the Second Amendment.

Pointless thread. Of course some are. There are aquarium enthusiasts obsessed with fish. There are gardening enthusiasts obsessed with orchids. There are car enthusiasts obsessed with Duensenbergs. Closer to home, there are knife enthusiasts obsessed with steel, locks, handle materials, and sharpening. So sure, there are some of us who are obsessed with guns.

Right now, I have a serious hankering for a pistol caliber carbine and I think I found the one I want. And, yes, it bugs me not having it. But not a great deal and once I have it, I'll move on.

We're almost as obcessed with owning guns as Democrats are with taking them.

Look at we finally got some .40S&W topic...... Certain ammo sold out in five minutes. That is crazzzy! People waiting in line to buy ammunition? That is NOT how rational people lead their lives.

There are all kinds. To me guns have always been my main hobby and passion. My office has two desks, one to work on and the other to work on my guns. However, I know lots of guys who have to carry a gun for work and they are just tools to them. Others are more interested in shooting and only their own gun and not guns in general. Some only like shotguns, handguns, etc.. I have often made the mistake of assuming that gun owners were into guns as much as I was only to find out otherwise.

Actually, it is the gun control and confiscation clique that seems reminiscent of a rite or cult of fetish worshipers. If you have a fetish, you are obsessively fixated on either an object or a body part.

Their mentality is that guns are in control of situations, and when we see unfortunate examples like those in Newtown, we shouldn’t see human beings who have gone off the right moral road because their consciences and self-discipline have not been properly developed. Instead, we should see guns in control of the situation, and then we should react against the guns. “Gun violence” should be called human violence, leaving us at least the dignity of being responsible for our own sins.

I'd say that I am obsessed with firearms, but not in the way that the antis mean.
I enjoy firearms a great deal, and spend a lot of my free time around them or reading about them etc. just like anybody who is really into a hobby.
However, I think what the antis mean is an 'unhealthy interest' in firearms, which I definitely don't have.
I think a lot of antis believe that people who have an interest in firearms spend all of their waking life fantasizing about killing people, which could not be further from the truth in my case. I'm too busy being normal; working, being a dad and being a husband, to fit into their stereotype.

I wouln't say we're obsessed, more like we love our guns.

I'm no gun nut, but I do appreciate the value and beauty of all guns. Some more than others of course...

I am obsessed by the retention of the freedoms I was born with.

The Freedom to own these firearms I've collected over the years goes very, very deep.

They represent to me the ability to fight as fiercely as I can to protect all of the other freedoms and liberties I enjoy.

Many look at my position as pointless against the myriad of opposition scenarios one man may face in a possible fight for freedoms retention, but that talk is just that of surrender with a whimper.

So......yes, I am obsessed with seeing my youngsters growing up with exactly what I started out with in 1956.

It seems that flyingfeathers is obsessed with/has a serious problem with anyone blasting a varmint though.. for whatever that's worth.

I'm obsessed, but only in a healthy way of course. Constantly thinking about new ones, trading in or selling the ones I never touch anymore (but I try not to actually act on that silly notion), enhancing/replacing parts, new ways to hunt with different weapons, need a new safe because the ones I have are full, ooh, look at that new optic/caliber, etc. Can't recall ever thinking about hammers or a basin wrench that way and don't have any fetishes of which I am aware, so...yep, obsessed.

Obsessed is what the lazy call the dedicated.

Some firearms enthusiasts are quite dedicated.

Some Sons of Liberty are equally dedicated.

Don't let those who lack a passion for something insult you because you do, or because they don't fully understand your passion/dedication.
