I just got hold of one of these yesterday.
A near new 3 screw in the box with all the papers and original sales receipt from 1972.
I always liked Blackhawks and this one is a beauty.
Haven't fired it much yet, but it seems to be a good shooter.
I had a 357 version once that was a real tack driver, I hope this one will be as good.
One thing I noticed right off is the muzzle blast is surprisingly vicious.
Any other Blackhawk fans here used this caliber much?
I never thought much of the 30 carbine as a rifle, but it sure comes alive in a hand gun.:)
 
Yep love the muzzle blast. Actually I use it as a range Baffoon dispersant system. You know the Tacticool guy that barely knows how to charge an AR type weapon an his two friends.
My is accurate and I have reloaded in the past for it cast bullet 110gr and H110 are great. Shot field pistol with it.
I truly like it.
 
I shot one a few years ago in .30 carbine, i was very impressed, had a very unique report to it. the one i shot had a scope on it so recoil was very light, the guy who owned it was selling it, i should have bought it.

I figured there had to have been some talk about this Ruger here somewhere.
They've been making the 30 Carbine for a long time.

It is loud by any standard, but I thought the recoil pretty minimal.
I've grown tired of the knock your teeth loose hand held howitzers, my old arthritic hands don't like it any more.

Just liking SA's and Blackhawks especially, I'll have a lot of fun with this one.
 
Never owned one, but have shot a .30Carbine Blackhawk a few times.

Muzzle blast/flame are A LOT, particularly if the ammo you have is the GI Ball stuff intended for use in carbine...
 
110 FMJ clocked 1400 FPS from mine. What do you do with that except plink wearing 3 sets of ear muffs? Sold mine as too wimpy to be useful.
 
And a hand gun load with 110 grn getting about 480 ft lbs.
Not too wimpy for a .30 caliber and what do you have?, Grizzlies running through the living room?

Sneaking up on 70 I just punch holes in a lot of paper anymore.
Muzzle blast doesn't bother me, though I might wear muffs with this one if I'm going to go through a lot of rounds at the range.
Which for me is about 50 feet out the front door :)

I have one of these critters and have had a ball in the past with it. My favorite bullet for it has been the Speer #1835 Varminter HP. It just seems like it was designed with this handgun in mind.

We, (my daughter and I), have also used the standard 110gr RN for a bit of hog hunting. All loads were with either 2400 or 296, in the 14gr or so range. while it might not be the best to be had, when the daughter was in her early teens she really liked to carry it as a backup to her rifle, while hog hunting, simply for a finishing shot or for the smaller ones around 50 or so pounds.

There are quite a few different cast molds which have been used as well, and if you feel like getting in depth with it look up Heavy Loads for the 30 Carbine. While I have not had a chance to play with them I do have some cast 150's in which to give it a try with. Not saying it's for everyone but figured since I have the stuff, I will get round to it one of these days.

I got some reloads with that same Speer done by the guy who had owned this Ruger I got.
They seem to be pretty accurate.
I've never loaded 30 Carbine, so I have to get some new stuff for that one.
I guess a trip to town is in order. I have to check around and see if any of the guys here have some brass they want to get rid of.
 
If you reload, you can download these using .32-20 load data, all but eliminate the muzzle blast and have an outstanding small game revolver.
 
This just about duplicates the performance of the 30C from a pistol.

:) Seems to be a few who ain't too impressed with the 30 caliber govt carbine in a handgun.
We still used the Carbine when I was in the service, most of us were issued the M-14 and I carried a 45 too. I wouldn't have given you 2 bits for the carbine.
They were light and short but worthless in heavy jungle cover.
Hardly anyone carried it.
This was all before the military decided Infantry should be carrying 22s:barf:
But, I kinda do like this Blackhawk chambered for it.

Muzzle blast is wicked, but I have a good set of ear muffs that take care of that. I might carry it around for a while when I'm doing my patrol around the place trying to put a dent in the Beaver population, otherwise it'll be just blowing holes in paper.

Not a lot of loads for it listed, but I did find some for 100grn bullets in an old Hornady manual I have. Using the 32-20 loads might be an idea too.
Anyway, shot up all I had so it might be a few days before I get more ammunition and get a chance to shoot it some more.
 
With reduced loads, it is fun to shoot. Standard carbine loads, an attention getter. Oh, I have an Automag III, too. And not all guns and shooting are about how well they get game.

I never thought of it that way, but it does work. Also disperses non-baffoons.

My collection of Ruger Blackhawk revolvers only lack one now
 
I traded my 30 Carbine Blackhawk away and have no regrets about the trade since I got an awesome double action revolver. I really enjoyed mine when I had it though and would buy another one if I had the cash and opportunity.

Yup. Got me a pair of them. One a shooter, the other more of a collection piece as it has seen arsenal finishing only once.

The shooter has been through one barrel and one slide. Shot it so damn much the slide at the barrel exit, left side blew off.

I've got the real deal Bulgarian ammo for it, magnetic core and hot as heck (when they aren't delay firing or FTF!)











For the 30 Carb in the Blackhawk, LoadData.com has a listing for H110 powder driving a 110 gr Sierra HP @ 1796fps (maximum load)
Our CZ52's will drive an 85gr FMJ round nose at about 1700fps.
Advantage: 30 Carb!

Love my Blackhawk in 30 Carbine, it makes a great companion to my M1 Carbine. I've only ever loaded 110gr FMJ with H110/296, and the muzzle blast and report definitely get some attention at the range! Very accurate and the recoil is quite manageable. I'd love to get my paws on an Automag III to go with it!

Did they do a factory run of them like that? Or did you get someone to do a custom job for you? That looks pretty sweet!
 
Good call, could be...

My father got a matching set of the Buckeye specials that Ruger did back in the 80's or early 90's, one in 32-20/32 H&R Magnum, and the other in 38-40/10mm. He had Hamilton Bowen tune them up and make a new cylinder that handles 40 S&W in the 10mm combo, and he bored out the 32H&R Mag cylinder so that it now does 327 as well as 32 H&R. That's a pretty sweet shooting pair of Blackhawks, and I wish Ruger had continued making their 327 single actions.
