Got this idea from jpwilly in the "tactical" shotgun picture thread, and thought it sounded like fun. Might even prove helpful for those who don't want to invest in add-ons, and instead just want a basic defensive shotgun. So show us your average/ordinary minimally-adulterated defensive shotguns (regardless of brand) if you don't mind. Here's mine...only addition is a 9 shot elastic shell holder on the buttstock. I think I'll add a simple 2 point sling at some point also. Otherwise I have no interest in add-ons.

Hey Doug,

Truth be told the shotgun you just posted a picture of is much more capable of protecting you and yours than the shotguns that have had a bunch of useless junk added to them.

My compliments to you for not trying to turn your shotgun into an AR. Now take that shotgun out and shoot it until it becomes a part of you.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

The only addition to my shotgun is a flashlight. I'm not going to pull the trigger unless and until I have identified my target, and it is hard to hold a flashlight in the hand and manipulate a long gun.

"Tactical", to me, is an adjective describing behavior and training...not the stuff we decide to hang on our weapons. I too, see a flashlight as a useful tool to put on a shotgun...beyond that...00bk is all that is needed to make a shotgun a close range nightmare for anyone evil enough to do you and yours harm.

I can't see the use in putting rails everywhere on a shotgun anymore than I can see myself hanging a scope or red-dot on my lever action rifles...but I'd never throw stones at anyone else who defiles a lever action in that manner...to each his own.

LeonCarr, I appreciate the comments. I bought this a week or so ago, and have had it out to the range twice now. Fired a bunch of rounds through it, trying to get a feel for it, and to see how it shoots. I'm very happy with it. My shoulder, not so happy.

Thanks to allaroundhunter and pps too, for the comments and feedback. I can see the utility of a flashlight.

I was starting to think no one was going to participate in this thread, but all three of the responses above are actually much more thoughtful/helpful than my suggestion of posting a picture.

I need to post a pic later, buts its just an old 7 shot Ithaca DSPS with an elastic shell holder on the stock. No fuss, no nothing extra. Just a great shooting and reliable 12 gauge home defense gun.

Fun thread, and thanks jpwilly for the picture, and the idea for this thread. By the way, I think it's a very nice looking shotgun. I think I like the look of simplicity.

Sorry for the crappy pic, but this is it.

Here's mine.

It's a Remington 11-87P.

This is how it looked when it came out of the box. The sling comes and goes based on how I feel at the time. (It's not on there at the moment) I feel no need to modify it from it's original condition.

It's got polymer stocks, an extended magazine (Eight rounds, I think) Wilson Combat ghost ring sights, an 18" cylinder bore barrel, and that's about it.

This shotgun defies many people's idea about what a shotgun should be, but it really works well for me.

The gas action makes it a pussycat in the recoil department, so getting multiple shots off is downright easy. I've fired it quite a bit, and it's been 100% reliable. I have had it for about seven years now, and it's never jammed or failed in any way so I feel like I can trust it to go bang if it's needed for bad guys.

50's era H&R bolt action 12 ga which I refinished and cut the barrel down. Not in the photo but it has a fiber optic front sight.

H&R Topper Single has a 12 ga, 20ga and 357 mag barrels.

Here is mine as purchased. It is an old Wingmaster with a 2-3/4" chamber and vent rib barrel with fixed modified choke. After a bit of shooting, I found the cracked stock.

Here it is after a little work. Mostly chopped barrel to 18-3/4", added new bead, added Police wood stock set, and replaced new magazine retainer and spring. Have not bothered to refinish the metal other than some cold blue on the new muzzle. Total investment is less than half of a new 870P with wooden furniture.

I love the simple, classic, "trench gun"-ish style of shotgun. So, I took my black polymer 500 Persuader and 590 guns to a more natural look. Not only does the wood look awesome compared to black plastic, but the FEEL of wood furniture on a shotgun is simply the best, in my view.

These are my bland defense guns.

I will admit to using a light on some of these guns... that's as "tactical" as I'm willing to take them.

I like 'em. And nice camera work BTW...
