Short handguard rails for the new Colt LE9600?

Hey Arizona Mike. I purchased an LE6900 so my son would have a 5.56 to use when we go to the range. The jamb nut measures 1.98" which is the same as a Yankee Hill Machine Company jamb nut. I purchased a YHMC hand guard and their tool for backing off the jamb nut. Their tool fit like a glove and worked like a charm.

Anywho, if you would like the rail off my original hand guard, you are welcome to it. Shoot me a message if interested.

I didnt hear that these released already. How much do they cost?

They started showing up for sale shortly after the SHOT show ended. Their MSRP is $899, but due to the AR buying craze they've been selling for well over that lately.

LE6900 Availability

Was at US Autoweapons this week. They had just received +/- a dozen LE6900's. Their price is $1,199. If you go to Colt's website, download the 2013 catalogue. It lists the stats but does not show a picture.

Found this on another forum "There are unconfirmed reports that the LE6900 are actually built for Colt by Anderson Manufacturing (KY).

I looked at AM's site and it is similar to what they're making, the barrels, tubular handguards and they even sell the Damage Industries mil-spec 6 position M4 with QD sling mounts. " curious if true.

The rifles are stamped Colt, but they don't appear to use any actual Colt parts. The barrels and bolts don't have any Colt markings and the lower with the integreated trigger guard deffinitely isnt a Colt part. Most seem to agree that the guns are farmed out, but only the people at Colt know the full story. Colt has been pretty fond of licensed products lately like the dedicated .22lr 1911's or the Colt Competition series rifles, so it really wouldn't surprise me at all.

YHM Rails 3" and 4" work on Colt 6900

While surfing the Colt 6900 rail subject I found a blog post as follows on Maryland Shooters:

C-to-C is 2.37" according to my dial calipers. Yankee Hill Machine uses the same spacing, according to Brownell's Q&A. Look at the q&a under the 9 1/4" rail.

The blogger reported they were successful - here is his report:

The YHM 3 & 4" rails fit perfectly, i have both on my LE6900. However the screws that come with it are too small, so a trip to the hardware store yielded M4x.70 countersunk machine screws. The head sticks up from the countersink in the rail just a hair, but that shouldn't affect that rail slot too much. Any bigger than a 4" rail and you'll need to drill and tap new holes in the ff tube.

Jeff, I don't think its really only geared towards LE. Its definitely just a sporter version, basically a stripped down 6920 kinda like the M&P15 Sport. I'm sure LEA's would opt for the 6920 anyway.

They have shown up on my LGS for less than $1k. I forget the actual price but something like $969. Decent price if its actually a Colt product. Maybe someone can verify this?

Colt provided information for 3" picatinny rails

I wrote an email to Colt Competition Rifles asking about 3" rails - here is their reply - Arrowflight:

Here is the information you need to obtain additional 3” float-tube rails for your Colt 6900.

1. The Colt Accessory Rail Part # is: SP 300318.
2. The price is $13.50 for each rail, + shipping.
3. The Colt Accessory Rails are exactly the same as the rail on the top of the float-tube: about 3” long and with 5-slots for Picatinny-compatible accessories.

The 6900 accessory rails will soon be available on this Colt website: http://www.coltsmfg.com/ShopOnline.aspx

Until they appear on the website, you can order them by phone by calling the Colt Manufacturing Co. Customer Service Number at 1-800-962-2658, Ext. 1450

The accessory rails are offered only in the 3” configuration. The hole spacing on the 6900 float-tube fore-end is set up just for the 3” long, 5-slot, accessory rails, which are CNC-machined from aluminum-alloy stock.

The 3” length accepts the various sling swivel adaptors from Midwest Industries, Yankee Hill, Ergo, etc., and the bipod adaptors from Ergo and Yankee Hill for the Harris and similar bipods. It also is the right size to mount the Streamlight TLR-series and SureFire X300 series tac lights.

With four rails installed, your Colt 6900 will look something like the attached pix of our Colt Competition Rifle Model CRX-14.5 Carbine, which is equipped with a similar float-tube fore-end with four accessory rails.

While you are at it, you might purchase one of the American-made one-piece Colt Scope Mounts from your dealer too. These are built from scratch in the facility where the Colt Competition Rifles are built, CNC-machined in-house from solid 6000-series aluminum-alloy stock (no imported parts or castings), then black-anodized to match the finish on all Colt Rifles and Carbines.

The hardware included on Colt Scope Mounts conforms to the U.S. mil-spec. For consistent results, torque the one-half-inch-size side-clamp nuts to 65 in-lbs, and torque the heat-treated 8-40 Torx scope-ring screws to 25 in-lbs.

The black Scope Mount finish exactly matches that on all matte-finished Leupold scopes, and on many other quality scope brands. Genuine Colt Scope Mounts carry the Colt Logo in white, and are available for 1” diameter scopes (part # 1401) or 30mm diameter scopes (part # 1430). The Colt Scope Mounts will soon be on the Colt website too. In the meantime, your local dealer should be able to order one for you from any of their Distributors.

I just picked up the le6900 last night. I talked to colt today and was assured it is colt parts and mil spec. she also said they were out of the rails but should have more next week

Hi this is arrowflight - do you still need 3" picatinny rails for the Colt LE 6900? I have four available - original Colt parts.
