I carried an M14 and Colt 1911A1 in Nam and have wanted to get a set
ever since I came back in 69. Years ago, I found a 1911, circa 1942 just
like mine in Nam but I just couldn't justify the expense for an M1A until
now. I recently retired and my retirement/birthday present to myself was
an M1A Scout Squad. I love this weapon. Shoots so sweet.
I'm one happy camper :D

Sweet! I like the M-14 and wish we still made them here. Unfortunately, the tooling was sold to Taiwan and if the Taiwanese were smart, they'd make them again to sell commercially here.

Thanks guys. First thing I did was field strip it when I got home. Kinda
proud of the fact that my muscle memory went thru the drill like it was
yesterday instead of 44 years ago. Got a Leupold 2.75x28 LER Scout
Scope with Warne rings on the way. Also ordered a couple 5 round mags
to be legal using it for hunting. First time I shot it, I aimed at a knot on a
tree about 4 to 5 inches in diameter. 3 rounds later and the tree was down.
Just like Nam. Didn't have to touch the sights for that type of shooting.
When it quits raining (if it ever does) I'll zero it at 25 meters for a
battlefield sight set up then add the scout scope. Picked up some 20
round mags and a couple 10 rounders already from 44mag.com. Got the
CMI Checkmate mags., same mag Springfield puts their name on but 1/2
the price.
Looking forward to some dry weather. As a side note, the 1911A1 shoots
great. It's no Gold Cup but it'll keep them inside of 3-4 inches at 25 yrs w/
a bench rest. No bad for a gun 71 years old; Govt Issue, US Army at
that.

I got a couple M1As, Springfield Armory, they will stay without a scope. with that walnut stock, just to pretty a weapon...I carried an M14 too many years ago.

I carry one now. But doubt that they will let me take on this deployment were working up for.

When we were getting ready to head to Iraq, I was hoping i could personalize my M-249SAW, but wasn't too optimistic.

That's the exact one I would get: walnut scout squad. Wanted one for years. Like you, I have never been able to justify the expense.

I have the black synthetic Scout Squad and now kinda wish I'd done Walnut.

It would probably be worthwhile to pick one of these up if you get the chance or feel like it.

My brand new Scout Squad flung the extractor and plunger into oblivion on the 33rd round ever fired through it. Installed the one above and it's been running great. There are mods you can do to yours if it hangs below the bolt body. Then again you could never have aproblem with your but it seems to be a semi-common problem.

I retired and had 3.5 months annual built up plus over a year and 1/2 sick that
let me retire 1.5 yr early. I took 3 months leave but took the rest in cash. That's
how I was finally ably to afford one, no justification other than it was time!
Civil Servants I Tennessee are paid so poorly, most qualify for food stamps if
they have 2 or more dependents.
Anyway, I guess turning 64 had something to do with it too :) Someone said they
wouldn't add a scope, "to pretty." Well, I agree, but, when you wear trifocals
pretty has to give way to practical. I've used the scout forward mounted scope
system before (I have my old Marlin 336C and a S&W M&P 15-22 set up that way)
and I really like shooting it. So, after a lot of soul searching and reading reviews
until I was cross eyed, I went with the Scout over the Standard. But it had to be
Walnut. :) Finally found one for sale and after a little haggling, the deal
was done and she was mine. Already gave the kids explicit instruction;
under no circumstances, period, this pair is never to be sold or
separated! They will be in this family, even if it's in a canister hid
deep in the old mine, from now on!

119er, This one is used but not much. Maybe 500 rounds including what I've put
thru her. The guy I bought it from's interest ran to the AR (part of the deal) so
he hadn't shot it a whole lot.
I do plan on putting together a parts kit in the near future. Hopefully I'll never
need it but someone down the line might. I appreciate the link. It was one I
didn't have.

Thanks for your service Sir, and that is a damn nice retirement gift! Congrats!
Appreciate it. I had planned on staying until I was 66, but I was doing the math one
afternoon and it came out that I'd have to live to be 79.5 before it would even out.
Mom died at age 78. Turned in my resignation the next day. There was more involved
of course but I won't bore ya'll with the political aspect of the reason I was doing the
math in the first place. Suffice it to say that the powers that be are decidedly left
of center on several bubbles off sanity and I'd had enough.

Nice family reunion, of sorts, for you on your retirement. And a great pair of guns to have together too. Hope you have many enjoyable times with both of them in the years to come.

I've had a Walnut Scout Squad for a few years now. It was spendy when I bought it new but I forgot all about that once I took it to the range. It is now a priceless addition to my personal arsenal and one of my favorite rifles to shoot. I absolutely love it!

Hey Omega what part of TN you in. I'm out in Tipton county.
My condolences. :) I'm in Morgan. No jobs and high taxes but it's home. Got a
little place, 28 acres. Just about all woods and old strip pits. I live right at the
base of a mountain. Just the wife, dog and me. Been in Law Enforcement since
coming back from Nam in 69. Had enough of fooling with scum and culls and
retired this year. Now, I'm busier than ever. Been building small food
plots for my turkey and deer. Wife is still working. She promised the
Judge she'd stay until he left office. I keep house on rainy days and have
supper ready when she gets home. She's enjoying me being retired. :)
