How close in performance are H4831sc and H4350? I haven't shot any H4831sc, but from Hodgdon data, it looks like a 6% to 8% higher powder charge of H4831sc will yield similar velocities and pressures to that of H4350, at least in the 6.5mm calibers. But that is book data. I wonder how they compare in accuracy.

H4831sc performs the same as H4831 and both are a slower powder than H4350? I use H4350 in the 30-06 but wouldn't think to use H4831/H4831sc in the same, it's just too slow a powder IMO.

What is the application, which 6.5mm and what bullet weight?

H-4350 is faster and it's the 'go-to' powder in the 260 Rem.

I use H-4831sc in my 338LM loads and some 7RM loads. Actually, 4831sc is my #1 choice in the 338LM, shooting the 250s.

Face it, you can get just about any powder to work in any cartridge, if you spend enough time experimenting and have the weapons to blow up, when you err.

4831 is slow and good in at least one 25 caliber rifle

I would guess the 25-06 has more space in chamber than your 6.5, and you would push a larger bullet. I would not recommend you start with any 4831 unless you are skirting along the upper limit of bullet weights for your rifle.

Like above you can make a lot of things work if you spend the time.

I would lean toward 4350 or further window shopping for a fit. The powders showing good velocity and a wide possible range in the data will usually result in accurate loads if you spend the time going through the range carefully.

Not a fan of H4831SC. When I was doing load development for my .30-06 heavy bullet LR load, I tried both H4831SC and RL22. RL22 delivered velocities of ~125fps above H4831SC with maximum loads. While I don't regularly use H4350, I have used it in 6.5x55 and it is a good powder. Just MHO.

H4831sc is the powder I use for .270 win. I get good velocity and excellent accuracy from a load less than published maximums. This is used for deer hunting.

260 rem

I've shot both h4350 and 4831sc from all of my 260's I own 4 of them. 4350 is a bit faster I believe but 4831sc shoots real well. I have not shot either SMK or Scenar bullets but I hear they respond real well to hot loads of H4350. Good Luck and post your results.

I just loaded 20 rounds of 6.5 Remington Magnum with 4831sc. I've tried H4350 and IMR 4350 but wasn't impressed with the groups I got. Hopefully the 4831sc will work out better.

H4350 is the "go to" powder for most of the 6.5mm cartridges that are used in the tactical long range competition scene(.260 Rem, 6.5x47 Lapua etc.) I use it in my .260 Remington with excellent results. When I first got the rifle i also bought some H4831 to do some comparison testing but the initial results with the 4350 were impressive enough for me to not even bother loading up the 4831. There are plenty of people who shoot the 4831 in 6.5mm cartridges with excellent results so either choice should give good accuracy. One benefit with the H4350 is that it is part of Hogdon's "Extreme" line and is designed to be very temperature insensitive and should have very minimal point of impact shifts across a broad temperature range.

I use alot of 4350 in 120gr 6.5x55 and 165gr-180gr 30-06, I have not found as much use for 4831sc yet none of my pet loads use it but I have not experimented with it as much either.

4831sc wasn't particularly stunning with my 6.5 rem mag today... I'll keep looking for a load.

Try RL 22 or H4895
H4895 and RL22 are VERY different powders, I doubt there is much of anything that can use both of them effectively. RL22 is a very slow burner very well suited to highly overbore cartridges like the 7mm Rem Mag, 25-06 and 270 WSM, 4895 is better suited to smaller cases with larger bores since it has a faster burn rate.

I've used these powders for many years in .25-06. 4350 has worked well with the somewhat light to middle weight bullets. 4831 works for me but only with the heavy bullets.

About 10 years ago I switched to RL17 and RL19 because they gave me almost 200 fps more than the siggle based powders. But I'm rethinking that strategy as running over a chrono shows me that 4350 is very consistent in my rifle while RL isn't.
