Keltec sub 2000

I have 2 Sub-2000's and are prefect for their intended use.

They come in 9mm and .40 S&W that I know of. They use a number different pistol mags that you can get in Hi cap. You can convert all of the pistol mag versions of the sub-2000 to another with less than $5 in parts. The exception for this is the Glock mag versioned Sub-2000 which can only use Glock Mags. No experience with the Glock version but I have been told from a number of sources they feed the best. I have not had any problems with feeding with the 3 versions I have shot.

I bought both of mine used in 9mm and converted them from the Beretta and S&W version rifles to Sig 226. Order the parts from Kel-Tec. They mail them out fast.

You purchased a new rifle without knowing what caliber it is? They come in both 9mm and .40, and there are are several versions taking various mags (Glock, Beretta, S&W, and Sig).

I have the Glock 17 version and feed it whatever 9mm ammo i can find. I use 17 round G17 mags and 33 round G18 mags.

If it's 9mm it'll take 9mm Luger, aka 9x19 aka 9mm Parabellum cartridges (rounds).

Which brand mags it takes should be on the rifle somewhere.

What's a Glock round? The only "Glock round" I'm aware of is the .45 GAP, but the Sub2000 is not offered in that cartridge. It should say right on the side of the rifle what caliber it is, sound like yours is 9x19mm, 9mm Luger, 9mm Parabellum, etc., etc.

As for the mags it takes, I'm not sure how to determine that because mine doesn't say it on the rifle, it may on the box but mines buried in a closet. I'm sure if you call KelTec and give them the serial number they can tell you.

Best ammo for what purpose? Target shooting? Self defense? Assaulting those enemy formations when your Schmeisser runs dry?

Read your owner's manual. It answers the mag questions. Good advice to call the company and chat with them.

pwillie, the best ammo for the Sub2000 is what yours will eat. Kel-Tec recommends against aluminum cased ammo, as the blowback action may rip the case head off & you've have high-pressure gas shooting through the mag well past your hand.

I've had a lot of trouble w/ my .40" S&W feeding anything other than FMJ round nose, which is dadgum difficult to find in .40". Yours may feed fine w/ some hollowpoints but not others, or eat all hollowpoints but not flatnose. Just buy what you can get right now, point the rifle in a safe direction, & cycle the rounds through the magazine by hand. What hangs up, use in your pistols, & try something else in the Kel-Tec.

If it takes Glock mags, there are plenty of hi-cap Glock mags around. Look for Glock 17 mags; Glock 19 mags you'll have to shave off the pistol grip of the SUB-2000 to fit. There's also 30+ rnd Glock mags running around. If it takes another kind of mag, you can swap btwn S&W, Sig, & Beretta mags by changing out the magwell, so see whose hi-caps are the cheapest & standardize on those.

The best ammo right now is anything you can find on a shelf for sale.

The acute ammo shortage has made finding any brand of 9mm very difficult.

I use a heavily customized S2K for action rifle shooting. Ammo wise I can tell you from experience that the gun likes stout loads, as in full factory power. Weak re-loads turn it into a jam-o-matic. Oh, and stick with factory Glock magazines.

My sub2k 9mm eats any ammo I've been able to get into the Glock mags. The Korean-made 33 round mags seem a bit sticky in the magwell but they wear in after a bit of use.

I bought 2 of the Korean mags from CDNN and was going to return them as they were VERY difficult to load with ammo. Turns out though that repeatedly loading and unloading them by hand, creeping up toward full capacity, finally got them to an acceptable point.
Hadn't noticed any mag well issues though...
