While browsing through a pawnshop in a nearby hamlet a familiar outline caught my eye...

Randall Model One!!

So I fling myself across the store into the display case, gibbering like a mad man.

I pressed by one good eye against the glass for a closer look and see....

A Cold Steel R1.

A "customized" R1.

Oh well.

$20.

Why not.

Now what am I gonna do with this buggered up handle?

Thoughts?

I still have a chunk or two of the old red Westinghouse Micarta.

I think the potential is there to beat, grind, & burn off the old handle and replace it like new with period correct Micarta.

The missing stone pocket and the scratched cougar head could fairly easily be covered over with a new stone pocket & flap.

But it would require cutting the sheath stitching and taking it apart to sew on the new stone pocket. Then hand stitching the sheath back together again.

One the other hand?

It is what it is, and you never need fear using it for whatever you need or want to use it for.

I need more knives like that right there, and less of the 'too nice to use' ones I have!!

Handle customized for somebody with seven fingers?
See, that's why they shouldn't sell Dremel Tools to people that can't count to five!!

Either that, or it fell off a star ship crewed by an alien race.

Guys! Obviously those grips were made as a tribute to the M-16A1 fore grips.

Fill them with epoxy or some such and reshape if you want the feel of the original grip

or

give it to RC and let him work his rebuild magic on it. Been a while since we have seen such work of his and I always enjoy it.

If you find the six-fingered man who owned it, tell him someone named Inigo Montoya is looking for him. :)

Just use it. Some chuckle heads think they can improve on a classic by grinding material away, and they can't, but as long as the handle is useable, go use it.

I think that vintage of blade is AUS 8A.
