Possibly the most innovative 1911 in years.

Most folk here are aware that last year the Marine Corp Special Operations Command (MARSOC) awarded a contract for up to 12,000 new 1911s for the Corp to Colt which had won out over other possible bidders after testing.

For decades MARSOC had rebuilt and reworked the 191s they had last received from Colt at the close of WWII.

MARSOC looked at the basic stainless steel Colt Rail Gun and, working closely with Colt upgraded and strengthened it in a number of ways after field tests. The slide and frame were strengthened. The recoil spring system rethought. The grip screws and bushings redone. The internals electrical nickel plated along with a number of other features.

The result is a particularly strong and reliable gun with many innovative features. Actually innovative and not simply cosmetic.

I'm attaching a link to a well done review of the gun by Hilton Yam. The 4 part review also has commentary and discussion.

All in all this looks like one of the more influential 1911s of recent years.

Colt is producing the gun at present and the identical gun will be available from the Custom Shop.

are parts interchangeable with other 1911s? if not I'm not sure it qualifies for the name anymore. At some point enough changes are made that it isn't the same gun.

I can't really say it is very innovative. Its a railed 1911 made by Colt to the MARSOC specifications. MEU's have been using various 1911s for a while, some railed, some not. Nothing new.

I also dont see anything influential about this particular 1911.

it's a standard 1911 model (Colt Rail Gun) with a a funny looking bigger recoil spring going over a small recoil spring. that's the only difference.

parts should be interchangeable with any other 1911.

not sure how the odd looking "dual" recoil spring is an improvement. you pretty much get the same result with using a heavier spring. I've shot numerous +P rounds through my 5" Wilson x-tac and with a 16lbs spring recoil was very light...

regardless... nice looking 1911.... wish the prices on gunbroker wouldn't be that steep. hard to justify $2,500 for a Colt when for a bit more you are in Wilson territory....

Too bad about the markings..

and lack of others.

I sure don't like the Home Depot checkout scanner crap on the side and while it has U.S. on it, too bad about the lack of "Military Property" or USMC as with the Kimbers.

The HomeDepot thingee is for inventory control so they can use scanners and computers - replaces keyboards and ledgers. Still glad to see a .45 cal in the hands of the grunts.
