I noticed RCBS's current rebate promo is 100 free Speer bullets if you spend $50, 500 free Speer bullets if you spend $300. Or $10/$50 cash.

http://media.midwayusa.com/pdf/coupons/RCBS_Bucks_or_Bullets_Rebate_2013.pdf

Five boxes of Speer 2026 Grand Slam at about $25 each is not too shabby, though they do expect $14.95 for shipping/handling. 55g 22-cal bullets have been a little difficult to find lately, so I'm tempted to take them up on this.

Now I just have to find $300 of RCBS stuff I want...unfortunately, a lot of their higher tech products get negative reviews (like their chrono) and I already have a basic setup.

Raindog, just buy three more rockchuckers. I own six and certain dies I use a lot and once set how I like then I just swap out presses instead of dies. Like the dies I use on my .308 match ammo for my M1a national match and M1a super match. Since there has to be some sizing of the brass I played with the adjustment to get minimal actual sizing and still have my ammo cycle reliably in those two rifles. I have not reset the bullet seating die for my pet load in over 20 years. I just take the entire presses off the bench and gently put them in boxes. When I need more match .308, take the pre set presses out and put them back on the bench. Almost bought another recently but guy wanted stupid money for a used press. When the run is over and a million new press owners figure out reloading is work, I bet we will all be buying good low use equipment for zip.

I guess we can wait a year for these to come back in stock so I can order and use the rebate. I agree after a year we should be able to pick up an extra (dusty) presses for cheap.

Blarby, I am a CNC Machinist by trade. I deal with measurements in the thousandth of inch range daily. There is no way to reliably remove a die from a press, place another and put the original back in its exact location. A speck of dust might foil your plan, not torqueing the die with the same force will affect its placing. I have to torque every tool change to exact specs or my result is different every time. I know this from years of living in a world where an inch/ounce here or a thousandth there, times a dozen tool swaps, different type of lubricant at the microscopic level means ten years later you are not repeating your original work. I own over 20 torque wrenches that along with measuring devices and meters go in every year for NIST certifications. When a caliper wears beyond its ability to be calibrated it gets replaced. Same with meters and wrenches. I have torque drivers that go down to 1/10 of an inch/ounce. For setting large equipment I have a torque wrench with a 10 foot T handle designed for two men to torque bolts to 8,000 foot/pounds.

So what does .006 look like? At the range, magnified by 1,000 yards of flight, its the difference between 1st place and 10th place. I have friends that think I am nutts for taking the press off the bench because untensioning and retensioning the mounting bolts can't be repeated. But that is what happens when you hang out with machinists who shoot f class rifles.

I can deer hunt with a box of factory ammo in a 30-30 lever gun and deer will still die wholesale. But I am the type who due to trade understands that due to gravity man cannot make a truly round ball for a set of bearings. But the closer you get to round, the better your machine using said bearings works. So you can poke fun all you want. But my guess is that the guys that are die swapping don't want to shoot Palma Match with me. I am not a great shooter naturally as some so I have to make up for lack of talent with mechanical advantage and lots of practice. Whether that be as mechanically perfect possible with my rifle or ammo, every variable I remove makes up a little more for shooter error. So what about a few extra rock chuckers? I guess when I live in a world where I don't blink over a 10,000 dollar oscilliscope, a 60,000 dollar tool room lathe, or a 45,000 dollar surfacing machine just to ensure a piece of metal is as flat as humanly possible it is hard for me to relate to folk that think a reloading press is a major investment. I probably have more invested in measuring devices on my reloading bench than most have in their car. It's who I am. Not bragging or spewing, just once a person spends 30 years living in a microscopic world its hard to think outside that box.

Has anyone been refused the free bullets? I have the 500 bullet forms all filled out and ready to mail..

However I see they have changed the latest form to indicate they may substitute $50 instead if they choose...that is quite a step down.

The original forms also said one may use BOTH rebates, and I also have the 100 bullet one ready to mail....but the latest forms indicate one may only use ONE rebate of the two.

What are ya'll seeing? Getting the bullets as promised? Getting both rebates fulfilled?

They have said on the rebate form on their site that they will no longer offer the bullets and all submissions will be sent the cash offer and the shipping costs paid will be returned.

I wish I had sent in mine earlier. I understand they're probably backed up but it's a little disappointing when they change things around like that. I'd rather wait in bullets. Also the one rebate per household is a bummer. When I bought my Hornady press and some die sets I was able to get a 900 bullet rebate from 1 order form.

Best wishes and good luck on this promotion. I ordered back in January and sent all the stuff in.

Today's mail brought me a check in the amount of $64.95 along with a brief note:
RCBS

Due to the current high demand, many Speer products are backorders, preventing request for bullets from being fulfiled. As a result, all customers who participated in the promotion will be issued a check in lieu of bullets.

Please accept our apologies as well as the rebate substitution and your initial shipping and handling funds enclosed.

Read into that No Bullets! I really didn't expect them to come through. No surprise. What does suck is the bullets had a much greater value. However, the original add does allow for the substitution. Not a big deal as I do have plenty but 500 more would have been a nice touch.

They're offering bullets to encourage sales??? Hard to believe these days.

They been doing it since before the panic.

I personally sent in the Hornady rebate for 100 bullets months ago based on a die set I ordered. Back in February I got an email notice giving me an order invoice but I assume that they're backordered along with everything else as I still haven't received the bullets.

I sent mine in around the first part of Jan and got my 500 bullets sometime in late Feb. Just made it under the wire from the sounds of it.

That really isn't fair of them to change the rules mid game- the rebate form I have* does not indicate that they can choose which you get. I choose bullets and if that isn't what I get they'll likely never sell me another thing....
Very poor customer relations- if they offer free bullets then that is what they should supply to the participant, doesn't matter if they are in "short supply", as we know they DO have them, they aren't making any fewer of them.

*The form I have is dated to be good the whole year of 2013. There is nothing on the form indicating they can change the rules at will.
If they want to substitute cash that would be ok if the check is for $379.50 which is their stated value of the bullets I was promised..

However, the original add does allow for the substitution.
The copy I have does NOT mention they allow substitution...nowhere on it does it mention any such thing. It is $50 OR 500 bullets, purchasers choice..period.

My original rebate form was bucks or bullets and they did mention as I recall that the bucks could be issued in lieu of bullets. That is how I remember it anyway.

As of now the entire bullets is over period.

Again not really surprised.

Yeah, this was on my original rebate form:

* We are currently experiencing high demand for our products. Inventory may be limited. We reserve the right to
issue a cash rebate in lieu of bullets; in that event, the customer’s shipping and handling fees will be refunded.

It still shows in the link to what was the original form I used.

There are still many sellers of RCBS posting the original form which does not have the substitution wording....see MidwayUSA, Natchezss to name two.

Oh well- I'm going to send my form in and see if I get bullets as promised. If I don't I'll go from there asking for a remedy.
The ONLY reason I bought an RCBS ChargeMaster was their promise of 500 bullets..could have spent less elsewhere or just done without it as I have for years.

BTW last year Pennzoil really stepped in it offering a great rebate on their synthetic motor oil, they did not state only 2 per household. After denying many people their rebates they finally had to back pedal and pay up- I got 5!
Same deal here- if they don't put exclusions on the form then they are legally bound to honor it...these companies need to realize they need to be specific on their rebate forms or face consumer anger.
Most companies have the sense to put some wording such as "terms may change at any time" etc on their rebate forms. RCBS blew it.

Give it a shot and let's hope they honor the deal. Interesting how some sellers still have the original form and some have changed it.

I bought two sets of Hornady dies and filled out the form and requested the 55 gr .22 bullets. I though to myself, yeah..right! Well that was the 1st of May. 3 weeks later the 200 bullets came in the mail! Go figure! BTW. Hornady only charges $6.95 per box for shipping.

Slightly OT for the original thread, but I agree with Hueyville. No die can be reset to exactly the same setting every time. I own six Dillon presses, and I swap them out whenever I change calibers. Never touch any of the settings on any of the presses-- just verify everything is unchanged and go. I didn't buy them new but watched over the years for used presses and bought them cheap. Excellent investments.

"exact" might be a bit misleading on the subject, if you adjust the same die more than once to the same spot, with the best measuring equipment you have, it wouldn't be in the exact location it was before (say to the .000000001").

Lucky for us that none of the components we have are made with tolerances like that, so we don't have to worry about them.

People do it all the time with the bushing/tool head/turret style presses. A lock ring with a setscrew dogged into the die will work too as will the split set collar type lock nuts.

Is it for the long range folks? Maybe not but there is a guy named David Tubb that uses a 550 with a removable tool head. I don't think there are any riflemen that have won more than he has.
