Springfield Armory XDS-9

I bought the XDs partly because I like the grip safety
Mine is in .45, to me it is too large to be viable in 9, I have the Walther PPS* in 9 and 40 if I wanted a smaller caliber the size of the XDs.
I carry a Kahr CM9 currently and am looking to switch to the XDs -maybe - if I can get used to the extra inch in length.

*Maybe Walther ought to look at making a PPS in .45

I'm inclined to agree, if you are looking at a 9mm or a 40 cal. Kahr is also a great option. I really do like the XDs design and enjoy shooting mine. I actually consider it to be some of the best money I have ever spent...... but again, because I wanted a small little .45 acp. I prefer it over the GLOCK.

Chambering an XDs in 9mm is kind of like making a 7 shot X Frame .357..... It really doesn't make much sense when you could just get a 686 L Frame that does the same thing, and is smaller and easier to carry. Hmmm...... How about a 10 shot X-Frame .357!!!

I do think chambering it in 38 super would be interesting, if you loaded it with some hot stuff. Otherwise you're just shooting 9mm +P. 10mm could be neat too, but in a 21 oz gun, it probably wouldn't be much fun to shoot.

Now when Boberg comes out with a .45...... I"M THERE!!!!

I chose the XDs specifically because of the added grip safety. Even though I am not really a strikerfire guy [read: I don't like them], I chose the XDs 9mm because I couldn't find a thin DA/SA of that size. I'm not all that big, so needed something thin. "Wear bagger clothing" doesn't cut it with me either. A potential carry gun needs to work with MY clothing style.

I like the Shield, but the itty bitty thumb safety leaves a lot to be desired. If it came without the safety I could have considered it.

That said, I'm really liking the XDs 9mm so far.

No law says you have to use it. Leave it off and its just like carrying a Glock. I like having the option.

It's mine as well.

I've got the 290 AND Shield, find them not only better all around, but more cost effective.

Especially the 290.

I like the 290, but it just doesn't fit in my hand right.

It's VERY positive.

You aren't engaging or disengaging it without it being intentional.

You can make up some scenario, but I could just as easily for a failed XD safety. Fact is, I've carried the Shield almost as religiously as I have the P290 (which lacks a safety) for 6 months now, never had it brush on or off unless by my hand.

I have the XDs in .45. I won't be purchasing the 9. I suspect many of us already have a compact 9. That's a niche that has been well covered for a few years.

Yesterday I handled an xds in .45 and was very impressed with it. I'm not overly happy with a 6 round capacity, but plan on getting a few 7 round mags down the road. The gun fits me much better than my glock 19 or any other glock for that matter and I much prefer the grip safety. They can keep their el cheapo kydex paddle holster. The trigger is better than my glock and my son's shield plus it's a .45.

Love my XDS45 so much that i'm considering a XDS9 just because.

I also have a S&W Shield and while it's a nice gun I just shoot the XDS45 better.

Add Pearce grip extensions and it's so much nicer to shoot, wish they had them for the Shield.

$590 that is way out of line for a new XDS9. I would have walked away too. I paid $519 at one of the local GS's. I walked away from a GS that wanted $575 because I thought he was a crook. Shop around Springfield is doing a pretty good job bringing them to market. They are very nice pistols.

$520-$550 is a fair price.

I got the friend discount which was a couple of dollars over cost, but would definitely have paid more for it.

I've had an XD-S in .45 Auto for about a month now. It replaced a P239 in 9mm as my CC pistol and I like most things about it , particularly the reduced weight. I might buy the 9mm version next year since I only own pistols chambered for 9mm and .45 Auto and I can use the same holster (HHH) for both models. I'll take the XD-S grip safety over the Shield's safety any day of the week. The Shield is a nice pistol though and I can see why someone would choose it over other models.

If you already have an XDS, you don't need a shield, unless you are bored. I had both due to a trade, I ended up with a 40 shield and an xds. After a few months, it dawned on me, "why", I sold the shield. I had way too many carry guns in too many calibers, I have been doing this "carrying" for 44 years now. You start to collect stuff, "like it or not" you find reasons to keep things. Now reality finally hit me, I now have 4 carry pistols, Period. In NY I carried a 38 and a 380 for 23 years without a second thought, "they only allow 1 gun, "2 if you are good" once you are given freedom to own as many as you can, you automatically do so.
It becomes redundant to own a dozen guns that all do the same thing. There is no purpose unless something drastically different comes along. This excludes target guns, like 1911's and 22's if you compete then it makes sense, or if you really shoot a lot, but not just to carry another compact or sub compact Tupperware carry gun. We all get caught up in it, only to sell it a year later to buy another one. When they make a 46 I will buy that.
I am waiting for that new "revolver" thing to catch on again.

I've been moving towards this way of thinking for the past year. Once I moved to a state that allows CC and I got my license, I have no interest in buying handguns that I'm not going to carry. I have a bunch of handguns that have now been relegated to interesting or fun or strictly home defense but not really practical for concealed carry. I bought an XD-S in .45 Auto because with 5+1 of 230gr JHP it weighs almost 0.5lb less than the SIG P239 I was using for CC with 8+1 of 9mm 124gr JHP!! Now I'm seriously considering adding a Ruger LCR in .357 Mag in an ankle holster for those times when I can't or don't want to dress around the XD-S at 4 o'clock (IWB or OWB). Loaded with 5 rounds of 125gr JHP it weighs 0.4lb less than the XD-S!! I could reduce weight even further with the .38 Spl variant but I don't want to deal with gas cutting on an aluminum framed revolver.

I've actually just purchased the xds in 9mm and I'm pretty happy with it after going to the range today. I put 300rnds of fmj 115g and 21 jhp with no issues. The XDS is fairly easy to shoot for its size, coming with great sights and a very smooth trigger. I would definetly recommend this pistol to someone who is searching for a light, accurate, and conceilable compact pistol. This is just my opinion from shooting it one day..hope that helps.

I added Pearce grip extensions to both 5-round magazines and now have what I consider to be the ultimate CC carry pistol. I bought a Hybrid Hidden Holster (thanks to 460Kodiak) and couldn't be happier with the combination. The 9mm version when loaded to 7+1 with 124gr JHP is basically the same weight as the 45 model with 5+1 of 230gr JHP ... 26.6oz vs. 25.9oz.
