Well, this reloading thing is becoming a disease. I started reloading so that I could shoot my .308 more affordably and with greater accuracy, and have since started reloading for every other rifle caliber that I have...

Now that I have nothing left in my safe to reload for, I am telling myself that I need to buy another rifle so that I can buy more dies and bullets! Tell me, those of you more experienced than I, does it get better? Or does the fun of reloading and working up a load never end?

A second question. The caliber that I am now wanting is the .204 Ruger so that I have a dedicated small game/varmint gun. I have ruled out the .22-250 because I can load my .243 with light enough bullets to do what it does with heavier bullets. Another reason that I like the .204 is because I can simply purchase an upper for my AR.

I feel like I'm set on this caliber, but as always, I'm open to suggestions... But please, reasons for the suggestions are the best way to form a persuasive argument. Simply commenting with a caliber and nothing further does nothing for me :)

In my experience, the urge to reload drops off IF you find yourself without the time or the place to shoot the stuff you're loading and see how well it works.

Or if you can't find components. Well, not the urge, but the ability.

with the limited availibility of factory Ammo.. i started Loading 9mm, 357 to go with the .223 i was loading

And Yes

i am a reloadaholic.....

Well, I always have a place to shoot (usually have time), and I have the majority of the needed components for loading .204. Those that I don't have are available to me :)

I feel your pain. I recently picked up a Savage Axis .308....just so I could reload something different. I haven't been loading long but have my .223 an 7mm Rem Mag right where I like them. My next one after I get the .308 squared away is going to be a .338 Lapua.

The .204 should be a fun little gun to shoot and load, I say go for it.

i live 1 mile from cabela's and I swear I go every other day and just look for stuffs ta Play With..

LOL

Currently NOT looking for another Caliber to Load... but am looking for a couple GUNS ta play with... and yes... will include NEW Calibers

LOL

I am finding myself shopping for or buying duplicates of reloading trinkets & gadgets that I forget I already have or not remembering I already have a bin of certain bullets and buying another 500 or so whenever I happen to see them. I guess its time to shoot more and reload less, but in recent months my pack rat/hoarding tendencies has proven beneficial.:D

It really is a wonderful hobby and can be some what addicting, especially in the first few months, or years. Fortunately I live where I can shoot as I load, so I'm not restricted in the shooting aspect of things. But even now more than 30 yrs. later I still find myself spending much of my time either reloading, or finding ways to use the stuff I load, hunting, target shooting, or doing load developments.
Welcome to our world, and that of THR!

allaroundhunter,

A while back I went through my logs to average it out, it's just a molecule over 10 rounds a day average since I started. There are some gaps of 20 or so days between completing any rounds of any cartridge. That's not to say I did nothing for 20 days; lots of days I prime or prep, most days I read something related. The gaps have been getting longer since SH.

If I already had the "back-deck" shooting range I will someday have, I'd shoot and reload just about every day.

Ah, that'll be great!

Perhaps like me you will go through phases with the hobby. Once I had enough of the basics down that I didn't kill myself or anybody else, then I advanced to what I call an intermediate handloader. I bought Dillon 1050, and could crank out a bunch of really good quality ammunition. Good for the "military style sporting rifles" and automatic handguns I had on hand. Then, money got tight, interests shifted, and for years I contented myself with a Lee Classic Cast turret and enough tools to make a few rounds of ammo for the once in awhile shooting I did.

For a long while I messed around with cast bullets, and then with Black Powder Cartridge Reloading... never was I more surprised than at the accuracy I was able to get with those big hunks of soft lead trundling downrange at a turtle's pace... But time moves on and so did my interests, and...

Now, I'm pushing myself into a more rarified layer of the handloading game, benchrest and belly benchrest (F Class). So, I now have all sorts of micrometers, ball micrometers, concentricity gages, neck turners, specialty dies, oddball measurement tools, and even a newer, more precise press, the RCBS Summit press. I do not believe I am remotely ready for the frustration that awaits me here as I climb this learning curve, but here I am, and here I go! LOL

I guess the hobby is harmless enough, and it keeps my mind agile. I love the accurateshooter.com forums and articles, and I learn so much from those who have climbed to the summit of rifle reloading. OP, I hope that you are able to find a great deal of joy in your handloading hobby.

I have be reloading for going on a year now. Yes I feel it is a addiction that I love I now reload for almost every caliber I own (the only thing stopping me from reloading for every caliber is I can't find dies for a couple calibers yet). I just moved, and I live 5 minutes from a bass pro 10 from an academy and there are 10 walmarts which all sell ammo not to mention the pawn shops and gun shops .So am I fueling the fire yes I think so :D I look at it this way when I spend my money on reloading stuff I no I will use it for a long time if I go out to eat or to the bar or a movie that money is spent and the fun is over pretty quick when I reload I take my time and enjoy every second of it. I love it so much I have gotten 3 friends started And now the misses is even going to start I am so happy. I am a reloadaholic

I wanna be a reloadaholic, will you have room for one more at your Reloadaholics Anonymous meetings in the future? :)

Handloading

I prefer to call it handloading because I almost never shoot factory ammo. That is a good thing with shortages of almost every caliber factory loaded ammunition. The only exceptions are my two Communist Bloc calibers. They are the 762x39 & 762x54R. I am prevented by lack of loadable brass from loading large quantities of ammo for these. The 762x54R is the only exception to my rule of no factory ammunition-due to the spam cans I have accumilated over the past several years.I have dies for both calibers but haven't used them much.I have been loading on a small scale for more than 30 years and still enjoy it.It is a hobby to :p me as is shooting.I always say no more loading until I shoot what I have.I get the urge and I load a small batch of whatever.:cuss:

I started reloading 7 years ago to save on shooting a 44 mag and for accuracy with my 06 A very good friend turend into my loading mentor with years of experience. Then I decided to start casting my own Boolits so that I'm able to bring everything full circle.
There is not a week that goes by that I'm not loading or casting for something. I read about it all the time nightly and some times during the day so I think I qualify as a Reloadaholic.

Hello, my name is Westy39, I am new to reloading BUT, I recently took several bricks of 22LR ammo to local pawn shops to trade for............ Yes, boolits, primers, and even a scope. I am just a bad person in need of more RCBS dies and primers... Please someone help me before I too become a ,,,,,,re load aholic. I am weak and looking for help...

Don't they say the first step is to admit you have a problem?

I refuse to admit, so then I don't have a problem!
........ am I right?

I started reloading in 1970, just back from The Nam, needing something to occupy my time. I find if I need to reload some cases, I like the steps involved in the process, the process takes my attention totally, no outside noise or activities. This process { By whatever name } has let me become a better shooter and reloader, having learned better ways of doing a certain step, which helps come range time. I've got an '06 my Pop left me, trying to get some loads loaded, so I can tame this round too , have a .223 and .22-250 and a Savage .250 I can almost drive nails with, then I'll be about satisfied with my "creations", 5 rounds into one hole is still my aspiration before I'm through.

I'm familiar with the "other 12 step program" , joining another anonymous group won't be anything too severe... I'll keep my eyes open for meeting nights !

You're in denial Joe-Bue...By the way, is your username Joe-Bue taken from the movie Major League? Cerrano's idol? (you probably dont have a clue what im talking about)
