The model 29 S&W

S&W Performance Center SS guns feature chromed triggers and hammers, so someone thinks that finish color is special. I am pursuing getting my gun refitted by PF or with a similar custom trigger/hammer set locally.

Nice guns everybody!

I own 4 S&Ws but this is my only S&W revolver so far.
It is in fact one of the previously-mentioned 629-2 'Mountain Revolvers,' serial # dates 1989. It's got a sweet trigger on it.
I love this gun, but I'm considering trading it, only for another S&W .44 mag, pre '97. It's the tapered barrel, just not my style. I'm the second owner of this one and between me and 1st owner it still has less than 1 box of ammo through it. PM me if interested.

A friend gave me these Hogue grips, I still have 'em but it turns out I like the original Pachmayers better.

WOW! I LOVE that picture of the gun firing in the darkened range! Probably the most awesome picture I've ever seen of a gun firing.

Heavily used Model 29-3 I purchased new in 1983 (presentation box is long gone):

30 Years old this year, it has the original finish but it went back to Smith & Wesson in 2003 for repair of a "push Off" condition (hammer and trigger replaced).

Here's one that'll break your heart, a 29-3 I purchased brand new at the Bremerhaven Rod & Gun Club in Northern Germany back in 1984 (note the German Proof Marks). What'll break your heart is that it came from the Factory Blued and I had it refinished in ROBARS NP3 in 2003 (blood had gotten on the finish during a hunting trip and destroyed to finish in one small spot the size and shape of my left thumbprint).

It remains unfired since the refinish 10 years ago.

Did it back the cylinder up at the shot in that picture? look at the hammer position. When my 29-629s started doing that I had to get a new hammer/trigger set.

Dickydalton, I missed your last post here until now for some reason.
That gun does not cock its own hammer.
What you're seeing in that gunshot picture (post #78 in this thread) is a funny trick of lighting that my camera (and many others) will do. It's a matter of how fast light travels, and how long the shutter was open, since the hammer was cocked for most of the shutter being open, the photo shoes it still back, where as the light from the muzzle flash is so bright that it shows up even though it was there for a millisecond. in most of my muzzle-flash pics, the hammers either look cocked or are a barely visible blur.

Also, to anyone here, I figure this is a good place to ask:
The model 629-2 mountain revolver seen in my post here has shot less than one box of ammo in its entire life, since it was born in I believe 1989. I'm interested in putting it up for sale to purchase a 29 that's more my style. Can anyone tell me what it's roughly worth? It's in great shape.

I have a 6.5" M29-2, THE Dirty Harry gun. I have carried it in a shoulder rig similar to Harry's. Not something I would do regularly. Mostly just so I can say that I have done it and to see if it could be done. Yes it can, but you really have to want to.

It's the ONLY way i carry my 29-2, (Safariland shoulder holster since the 70's) and it's the way i STILL carry it today.

I can't even "guess" how many miles it's been on my side, hunting with it, all over in the bush!

I didn't say it cocked it's own hammer. S&W 29/629s will unlock and turn the cylinder backwards with a too hot load or if they are worn from much shooting. I've had to replace the hammer/trigger in two of them that I've shot extensively. Ask a gunsmith that is not BS.
I saw another one of those on GB starting at $949 with no bids for a couple weeks.
I have one also that I bought in '90 I believe, my favorite.
Anything else you would take in trade?

I got my model 29 back in the mid 1980's. I dont know for sure when. If my wife would let me open carry instead of CCW it would be me gun of choice. With hand loading it is not terribly high priced to shoot. It will be the last gun I get rid of. I shoot 44 specials and carry light 44 mag unless out on the trail. I got the 6.5 barrel and am to little to hide it

Aww, they're really easy to carry with the right gear:

I sometimes IWB carry a 4" 629 in a Hoffner's rig and it works great for me. A longer barrel wouldn't make much difference as it would be inside your pants. An 8" might hit the chair when you sit down, I guess.

In the last pic, you can tell it's there if you're looking for it, but that's not bad for concealing a .44 Mag and 3 speed loaders.

Sadly Clint Eastwood used a 57, in .41 magnum for Dirty Harry.

See they could not find a real 29 so they had to settle for a 57!

So in reality most of those early photos of Clint the muzzle was a .41!

Sorry, but that was debunked a long time ago.
Don

Yes it was debunked... The ACTUAL gun(s) used, is in the NRA museum, and it's a M-29... NRA mag told the story and showed all the picts, a month or two ago in their mag...

"There - (place) Their - (possessive) They're (contraction of "they are")
Then - (a moment in time or sequence) Than (comparative: "Joe has more than Bill.")
Lose - (Failure to win.) Loose - (not tight) Learn the difference. It isn't hard."

I like this. I even agree with it. But perhaps it should read "It isn't difficult." rather than "It isn't hard."

This should've been done via PM, but...

HARD-
-adjective

1- difficult to do or accomplish; fatiguing; troublesome: a hard task.

2- difficult or troublesome with respect to an action, situation, person, etc.:hard to please; a hard time.

3- difficult to deal with, manage, control, overcome, or understand: a hard problem.

4- involving a great deal of effort, energy, or persistence.

Heck, i was kinda hopeing he would give out some "training" to the guys that say "winnie", "remmy" and "shotty" ect....

They sound like those "teens" with their pants half down and their hats on sideways... lol lol

Sam,

How did you get that Hoffner's holster to work for you? Mine would not let go of the gun approximately 33% of the time.

A 5" barrel is all I can manage before the muzzle prints through my pants. Another problem is cushions. The barrel presses on the cushion which causes the gun to jam into my side or kidney.
