Super Bubba Mosin I built

While I believe that if its yours you should be able to do what you want with it, I am also one who believes that a person should have respect for the history of a firearm. Now that being said, it's not like he took an original, matching numbers WWII Luger and bubba'd it. It's just a Mosin. Personally I think it's the coolest MN I have ever seen. But I agree that it needs better glass. Just fantastic work man. I would be proud to own that weapon.

The gun looks very impressive. I cannot believe that anyone cares of a mosin is permanently modified. They are beaters available by the crate all day every day. Another piece of history ruined?? There will always be Mosins around for future generations to look at and wish the barrel was not so long LOL!

While the short barrel isn't my cup of tea, the TRG-like stock and magazine combo is a really spacy looking rig. Well done!

I don't think it is too much of a hijack....He is showing off his modified gun...some like and voice why...others do not and voice why...each side tries to support their view.

Supporting the opposing view with 10 posts is a continuation and should be let go since that member's point has been made.

Showing classic American cars that got heavily modified for better or worse doesn't compare financially to a Mosin Nagant either, IMO.

The work Napalm did to his Mosin is pretty much irreversible. I guess others are stepping into this thread to make sure that no one else does the same thing. Too bad, since Napalm's rifle is well done and not some overseas war zone hatchet job.

One more mosin fanboy post hating on this gun and I chop the barrel on my Finn and PAINT the finger spliced stock with a roller!

As an owner and lover of a number of Mosins I say cool rifle. Whats the office pool numbers on how many rounds that scope will last? Ive put several (i.e. 3 differernt) cheap scopes on my M44 scout rifle and none of them made it past 40 rounds.

I like it.

And I respect that we all have a right to an opinion. But if I ever get the urge to "bubba" a MN, I will do it. To be fair, perhaps I'll lay out what I plan to do beforehand and give someone who values it in unmodified form more than I do the opportunity to buy it for, say, 250% of what I paid for it. Gives that individual(s) the opportunity to rescue the rifle from its fate at my hands.

Seriously, guys, talk is cheap. If you want to personally rescue MNs from being "bubba"ed, put your money where your mouth is and buy as many as you would like to preserve. And if you want to politely express your opinion, fine. But dont belittle the guy that chooses to do what he wants with his weapon (within the confines of the law, of course).

on my Finn and PAINT the finger spliced stock

I've got an old Fin, hadn't looked at it in a long while, but I noticed the "finger spliced stock" in front of the magazine last time. Is this "normal"? arsenal rebuild? bubba? Its a hex receiver, I picked it up for like $70 at a gun show about 25 years ago just because it was cheap and unusual. Shot it once to see that it worked and its sat in the back of the safe ever since.

I just bought a mosin 91/30 and hope to shoot it this week. I do like what you did to YOUR Mosin.
I will be keeping mine original because thats what I want to do. I have modified many old classic cars and built a custom 57 chevy in my garage, it drove the purists nuts but hey that's half the fun. Dare to be different nothing wrong with that
Good job OP
you should post this on www.russian-mosin-nagant-forum.com
athen get a beer and some pretzels and enjoy the show

The net result is the same. Take post 23 in which the poster indicates he keeps one Nagant original to offset a modified one. If everyone did this, there would only be 50% of the original number of Nagants left. If the next owners continued this trend by Bubbafying the remaining 50%, there would only be 25% left.

Diminished supply drives the price up. A blue-collar mill-surp aficionado with a $100 budget can now own a piece of history. Enter the Bubbas whose chop jobs push the price up to $200. Now our poor aficionado is priced out of the Nagant market and he does not get to own a piece of history. This is indeed tragic.

So what happens to your guns when you die? You have taken guns out of circulation and caused the prices to rise hurting the working class. If you do not put your guns back into circulation (at an affordable price) then the net result of your action is no different than his. Regardless of what is or isn't done to the gun.

No offense, but it is a bit hypocritical to bash someone for reducing the number of guns in circulation when you do the same. I hope you have no intentions of passing any belongings down to relatives one day

Please do us who like it a favor &let us know about the conversion job itself. The magazine conversion how difficult was it? What are the box mag.s like? How well did they work ect. Thanks!

What are the box mag.s like? How well did they work

Seeing how they are Pro-Mag, I'd be a bit leery about that part of the conversion!

Looks like the stock would flex a lot under recoil just below the pistol grip, this could soften recoil, but its another concern I'd have about how well it'll hold up in the long term.

I think the stock looks pretty good, not sure about buying one and making a commitment to using Pro-Mags :(

Inletting for my PU "sniper" probably wouldn't be too hard and just a stock switch would be reversible.

Yea the mags are so so.

The five rounder I can't get to function well, the follower sticks in the mag body when loaded. I've already sanded the a bit. Might call promag.

Ten rounder works great as long as you load it so the rims don't lock on one another.

So what happens to your guns when you die?

When someone who hasn't "Bubba-ed" his historical firearms passes or otherwise relinquishes ownership of the firearms, those firearms are again introduced into circulation and join the pool of remaining unadulterated historical firearms from which others can choose, purchase, and cherish.

Actually, what I'm doing is responding to questions and comments that other members are putting to me. Far more interesting, however, is your apparent position that nobody should suggest to others what they can do with their property while simultaneously suggesting how I should be exercising my right to free speech.

Well black butte you've done it. I'm in the process of moving right now but once I'm settled in ill break out the hacksaw and the paint. Ill make sure to send you the before and after pics in a pm.

I used to be on a kick of collecting post war sporters done in the 1950's style.

To me these rifles weren't "destroyed pieces of history" oh contrare. To me they had MORE history than a rifle in original condition made after the platform was long obsolete for the sole purpose of keeping the people who made said rifle busy and then squirreled away in a forgotten warehouse for half a century.

It's not my place to tell you that we actually don't have free speech on a privately owned internet forum. However, you could've started your own thread on the topic with your point of view about leaving Mosin-Nagants in their original condition. Instead, you've contributed heavily to hijacking this thread and I am just as guilty of continuing the hijack by responding to you.

On the contrary, my posts conform with the guidelines of The High Road.

you could've started your own thread on the topic

Could have, but didn't.

you've contributed heavily to hijacking this thread

Nope, I haven't "hijacked" anything.

I am just as guilty

Your guilt is not my concern.

And now, instead of finding the information that others have asked for about the build, we find only arguing and bickering between the purist and the gun's owner..... This potentially really cool and informative thread, just got real boring.
