Pietta brassie Buffalo fantasy pistol with
Italian reproduction of 1859 Colt patent detachable stock. I bought
it cheap online mainly because it came with
multiple cylinders. I wear it holstered on my right hip
in a right hand holster and old leather and
brass sling over my left shoulder with an older
Pietta Le Mat in a horizontal crossdraw holster on my left
hip: 15 .44 cal rounds + 1 20 gauge grapeshot round all
ready to go PLUS 3 extra Remmie cylinders in pouches on
on my belt. Sorry having problema posting from my phone.

Just picked up a 1985 made ASM steel frame at a local show. a A bit cosmetically challenged but nice mechanically.

Marking include proof and date box on the bottom of the frame between the trigger guard and load lever, almost too light to read and under the loading lever on the bottom barrel flat starting at the breech end and reading forward a pair of proofs and "ASM-BLACK POWDER ONLY MADE IN ITALY" the ASM triangle and the serial number. The only other markings are to BP proofs on the cylinder, each next to a different cylinder bolt notch.

I have not had it apart yet. The trigger pull is excellent though a bit heavier than some of my pistols no grit or anything no hammer movement. Lock up is OK a little wiggle and front to rear there is some wiggle. My biggest concern is the barrel cylinder gap.

The frame is slightly dished at the barrel but one can barely detect the forcing cone end of the barrel sticking into the cylinder window. Sort of half way Beals.....

My plan is to shoot this gun sometime this week (more church stuff today) then strip it fully next to a peitta NMA and hopefully only compare parts and not mix them up while cleaning the ASM.

I am suspecting that this is a .451 eating cylinder as .454 balls sit a bit higher in it than the pieta before ramming, though I have not tried ramming the .454s yet. While a .440 for a flinter I have does drop easily into the cylinder chambers, it does not drop into the muzzle of the revolver but sits on the lands.

Last bit of news, playing with this outside this AM I found that the right eye is such I have difficulty focusing on the front sight, while the left plastic lensed eye gives me a sight picture like out of a book....perfect.....so now I have to decide whether to concentrate on shooting left handed or cross-eyed... the Rolling Stones had it right but it beats the alternative....

OK I admit that grip panel was what prompted me to make an offer (less than half that tag). Unfortunately the opposite grip is rather plain in appearance. As the plain grip would be toward my side in a holster this is ok.

One of my kids was a bit concerned that doing "commerce" on the Saturday of General Conference was like doing the same on Sunday......oddly she had no problem going with her Mom to a "Peanut Festival" and buying sugared popcorn, peanut brittle, roast peanuts and junk jewelry while I was at a gun show. Good news is she decided unprompted that she wants to shoot the new Remmie as it is just like the .31 Remmie she shot but all grown up. She also commented on the pretty wood.

I just received my first BP revolvers, all Piettas including the 1858 Remmie. I am still deep into the learning curve on black powder guns and shooting them.

I love those older, vintage Remingtons. I obtained a Euroarms 1858, no "black-powder only" markings a while back. Both grips have beautiful figure to them. I felt impelled to take off the old lacquer finish, and refinish with oil. Really brought out the grain. I love the artful lines of a Remington ( Form, Fit, and Function). Although I must say that I also love my 1860 and 1851 Colt repos.

Yes it is. I have one and love it but I put Pietta 1860 Army grips on mine because I hate how those Pietta Navy grips feel.

Thanks, the bottom one is a Dance & Bros. I hope it is not as risky to shoot as Southron mentioned in a post he made. That is due to the lack of a recoil shield to keep cap fragments from flying back in the shooter's face.

So my Dance and Brothers has Navy grips? How are the Army grips different? Maybe larger. Is the swap a simple deal?

The swap is easy as long as you use Pietta 1860 Army grips. The ASM, Uberti & Euroarms grips may not work. What I did was offer to swap with someone on the SASS Wire the Pietta Navies for the Armies and it went well. The Army grips are longer and feel identical to other makes of Army grips so it pairs up with my 1860 Army (ASM) just fine. They feel the same when shooting. For me, the Pietta Navy grips point the gun upward. To me, they are narrowed at the top and too flared at the bottom. The Single Action Army had 1851 Navy grips, a proven design. The Uberti & ASM Navies have the SAA grip. The Piettas do not resemble the original grip. I don't know why they felt they needed to redesign such a successful grip. Oh well.
