Seems to me ammo is coming back. I went out to my favorite spot on BLM land (public land) today and after shooting my usual array, I started looking around for brass. Found quite a bit where I was, so I drove over to a couple of other spots where a lot of people shoot and I picked up all the brass I found.

Here's my take after separating it all-- a full 5 gallon bucket:

460 5.56mm once fired mostly USGI
over 700 .45 ACP all large primer
136 7.62 X 39 Winchester
over 800 9mm
over 600 .40 cal
34 .45 LC
167 7.62 NATO USGI
372 .380 ACP
And a handful of .32 ACP, .25 ACP, .357 Sig, and a few other oddballs. Even found 13 7.92mm S&B.

I think ammo is definitely starting to come back. For the past 10 months about all I have been able to gather up is a meager handful of all calibers on any given day. Anyone else seeing more brass on the ground?

You scored some good brass.
You also helped us to keep public lands open to shooters, by cleaning up after the terrible slob shooters that are ruining it for everyone else by their wasteful ways. If we could only get them to stop trashing up every place they go, we might have an easier time fending off the libs.
As for the ammo situation, it is getting better.

I don't know about used brass at the range but I did find some .22LR the other day so I can honestly say that some ammo is back in some places.

Congratulations on collecting the brass.

I just wish I could see pistol ammo for sale behind the display glass.

I was in Defiance Ohio this week and had to run to Walmart so of course I looked at the ammo. They had several types of 9mm, .40, .45, .38 and .25. Plenty of shotgun and hunting ammo as well. Of course there was no rimfire of any kind. I would have gotten some of the 9mm but it sure isn't worth trying to fly back home with a bunch of ammo.

I think you're right, but it will vary by region. I judge the economy based on my impression of truck traffic on interstate highways. Seems like a good indication to me when people are or are not spending money. That is data I wish the highway departments would publish..... month to month tallies from some key weigh stations.

Yes it's coming back, yesterday I saw a WHOLE BOX on the shelf! :D

My LGS has had everything back in stock except for 9mm and .22LR but even the stuff he has back in stock isn't at pre-panic prices. $8/box of PMC .223 when it used to be $6 still bugs me. Especially since I picked up a new POF and want to just shoot it all day long. :)

I didn't mention it but I usually carry a trash bag or two and pick up at least a little of the trash left by other people-- I won't call them shooters. It's truly amazing at the amount of trash some people leave on public lands. I found one new spot that day with I think seven old TVs that were lined up on a hillside that had been shot to pieces and left out there. That's not to mention all the election signs, stolen real estate signs, water bottles, Freon cans, just anything you can imagine. It's way too much for me to even try to keep clean by myself.

Guys, wherever you go to shoot, PLEASE carry your trash back home with you. And pick up at least some of the trash left by others. This is one of the hot-button issues used by the "greenies" to try to keep shooters off public lands. If they ever succeed, this may well be the reason why.

Gotta be more water in Death Valley then there is ammo in SoCal!
I mean like dry.....................especially .22long rifle and 9mm.:banghead:

*All though I did pickup ten boxes of 12 gauge lite target stuff with the help of me dear wife. :D (would only allow five boxes per person)

The old scout motto: "take nothing but a photo, leave nothing but a foot print" would keep all these places very nice. Would keep the "range open" signs out also.

I thought I'd be nice to my son-in-law and load him up 50 brand new .300 win mag cases with 200 gr nosler partitions and RL-22 powder.

Brass - nope

powder - nope

bullets - actually had those

Primers - have some

:cuss:

Nothing in NEPA yet, Wally World gets a small shipment every week and it's gone by noon that day.

Also a serious powder shortage up here.

How do you know its once fired, not 10x fired.
I don't use range pick up brass for reloading, you never know where its been.

You really don't know how many times it's been fired unless you bought it new and have been keeping track. There is no reason not to use it as long as it passes inspection. I've had split necks w/ factory rounds after the first firing. And I have some range pickups that are close to twenty reloads. As long as they pass inspection there is nothing wrong w/ using them.

I've had pretty good luck locally. Bass Pro had 100 ct. WWB in 9mm. Academy has pretty much everything back in stock, although .22 LR and 9mm didn't have a ton of options.

There seems to be plenty available online. Heck, Midway even has .22LR in stock.

Nope, walmart is still empty . But i saw a few Tula brand 9mm and 45. The Winchester 40s and 45 ACP are also available. The shotgun and centerfire ammo were no problem at all.

Why do those cheap dudes shoot that........ Cheap steel cased ammo.....

Dont they know........ Us "frugal" people are picking up brass

:D

How did the grand canyon get formed....... A loose piece of 308 brass fell in a hole

Ok..... Weak

You had a haul!

Just went to Cabelas for some hunting 223 to go out wolf/mt loin hunting in the morning. All sorts of ammo everywhere. Grabbed a box of Remington 62gr soft point.

I visited my local reloading supply store Friday and commented to the owner, "It looks like a reloading supply store should look like". There were a few things he didn't have but all in all, he had a good supply of most items. I even picked up a pound of Win 231. Haven't seen that in quiet a wihile. He even had a display case full of large pistol, small pistol and large and small rifle primers. Even shotgun 209 primers.
