This may be a silly question but, is the Ruger SR556 lower compatible with other uppers?

Thinking Bushmaster 450 upper, specifically - but curious about any option?

The best source of info is with Ruger. Their's is a proprietary piston system so asking that on the Internet may get you the wrong answer.

The upper is a whole 'nuther story. The lower follows standard dimensions. Ruger sells their uppers seperately to pin onto standard lowers too.

From Ruger:

Sir,

The upper is intended to be used in conjunction with AR-pattern lower receiver assembly build with standard AR-pattern components. There are a wide variety of manufacturers of AR-pattern rifles, individual components, and accessories. Among these manufacturers, quality and adherence to an AR-pattern "standard" varies. Our upper has been tested extensively with a variety of lowers built by different manufacturers. However, we cannot ensure that the upper will function with every lower receiver assembly that is available or has been built. Essentially, the SR-556 upper can be installed on any well made AR15 lower or vice versa. Thank you for your email.

I think that answers my question, although I asked specifically about the lower, Ruger seems to want to sell me an upper...

Boosted - that's why I'm asking the question.I'd like to get the SR556 but I want an AR I can change the upper on to a 450 bushmaster, so that will be the deciding factor for me.

I was hoping some SR556 owners would chime in with their experiences...
