Need more entertaining poll results.....change the quantities to increments of 25,000. Bet there are some here that could ring the bell with six or seven figure amounts.

I have no doubt some could.

As I have nothing to hide, I'll post up exact amounts. I know exact amounts, as I just did an inventory two weeks ago. To be fair, I don't even have guns to shoot over a dozen of these calibers. Leftovers from when I closed my old gun shop down.

I'm a little heavy on Warsaw Pact calibers. And a little light on NATO. (Don't worry me, I reload as needed for 9mm, 5.56, etc)

Bloomberg feinstein schumer and all antis combined in their wildest wet dreams have never severely limited my access to guns and ammo as gunowners have almost to a standstill and this has been going on for 25 years

don't cha know everyone lies in these threads

Especially that one about water in the Rio Grande. Them New Mexico folks are really stingy about that river water.

Well.. don't want to get called a liar.

Not sure about anyone else, but Snowden drove home the point for me that discussing your possessions is not the wisest of options.

Not quite sure what Snowden has to do with sharing your ammo count.

But, if we hide in the shadows like blood thirsty criminals, people just might accuse us of being.. well, just that.

I think it's good for the public to see that responsible, upstanding, law-abiding citizens own arms and ammo...

...In big quantities.

The Second Amendment is more than a right. It's a deterrent.

Don't forget that.

I accidently clicked the wrong answer in the poll.

I reload and I keep 1250 in reserve for all my centerfire handgun calibers

380
9mm
45acp
38sp
357mag
45colt.

and I keep 3,000 in reserve for 22lr.

Really the only rifle caliber I shoot a lot is 7.62 x39 and I keep 1000 in reserve.

I try to keep 250 of everything in my shooting supply (1,000 for 22lr)

so 1250 x 6 = 7500 + 1000 + 3000 = 11,500 (reserve)
250 x 7 = 1,750 + 1,000 = 2,750 (active)
14,500 + a couple hundred random hunting rounds. Say 15,000

I should have another 12,000 + (2k per handgun round) ready to reload.

I got asked by an anti-gunner once during a debate.. dialog went something like this (paraphrased);

Them; "People don't NEED thousands of rounds of ammunition."

Me; "Sure we do. I shoot hundreds of rounds a month in practice, competition, etc."

Them; "But you don't NEED to stockpile thousands of rounds of ammunition. Why do you NEED enough ammunition to start a small war?"

Me: "Because people like you keep trying to take it away, that's why."

Hard to answer because I don't know how to count reloading components.

Already loaded ammo: I'm down to about 3500 .22LR's; I like to keep that well north of 5000 but this shortage caught me by surprise. And I have maybe 2000 of everything else combined.

I have a few thousand jacketed rifle bullets, and enough lead to cast maybe 100000 pistol bullets. My limiting factor is reloadable brass, even though it can be reused (you can infer from that what you will about powder and primers.)

 So why haven't I been to the range all summer?
The extra value of components over cartridges beyond the cost savings is that one has more versatility. As one can never really know what calibers will be in demand or what calibers may be in short supply, flexibilty in how to apply components has worth. I count the primers with a limiter of quantity of lead and powder. As long as you have a quantity of loaded ammo, quantity of brass should not be a limiter.

Not enough. I have not done a running total of what I have, but lets just say its between 5-10k. Its on the low end of that range since I shoot mostly 22lr that I have not been able to resupply in large amounts.

What sucks is that it could be over 10k if I could find more rimfire ammo.

Not nearly enough in a perfect world I would have enough ammo to last at least three lifetimes worth so I'd say at minimum 1 million rounds per caliber from 22lr on up plus that much components  hey a guy can dream right

Do any other regular citizen sportsmen/women sometimes feel like the more ammo you store, the more you want to reduce consumption?
It is sort of like a rifle collection?

I'm sure that this notion never occured to anyone else.

You aren't alone in this phenomenon.

"I've only got 1500 rounds left of 9mm, I better take the 45 to the range instead"

Or

"Crap I just shot my last 50 rounds of 300 win mag." (stares longingly at all the other piles of ammo, wishing I'd taken another gun to the match.)

I *completely* quit shooting 5.7x28mm for almost two years because I couldn't find ammo anywhere. I was "down to" 1500 rounds. I've been shooting it occasionally in matches.. now I'm down to 700 rounds and nervous, because I can't find the good Fiocci ammo anywhere, and won't shoot any more of the American Eagle junk.

Not exactly, but when ammo is impossible to buy, I don't want to use up any of mine even if I have 2 lifetimes of that caliber stockpiled and never intend to buy another round. It's not a conscious decision, it's just something I do unless I try real hard not to.

Not for sure, but think I have 15K of 22's, almost 1000 of 223 factory rds, then about 3K of reloaded 223 rds, about 1K 38's, 500 357, and almost 600 of 44 mag. I've got about 4K other rifle rds loaded, and about that much more in components, I do wish I could get some more 22's though, like about 5K more. I'd like to take this stuff to my cabin, but my boat has a slight leak in the stern!

Maybe for those of us who bought a good bit since about '08-'09, we are disturbed by an increasing number of reasons which could not only raise prices, but even gradually cut off or heavily tax ammo imports.

Any combination among those possible factors which concern me are generally the same reasons I resolved to buy my second Garand on Aug 31st. in Anniston.

me, i have exactly one box of ammo, for every gun i own. that's my official statement, and i am sticking to it. :neener:

I'm fully in the hoarder category according to this poll.

Although I will add the caveat that I counted my ammo by the potential to make loaded rounds. so I'm counting lead boolits still in the boxes.

I did not, however count my .22 stash. I thought I was low, but I seriously looked at it the other day when it took both hands and sitting on the floor to move the storage box. Realistically I seriously do not need to spend a dime on ammo for at least 2 years. But sadly, I know I will continue to buy a box every time I shoot one up.
