Fella's;

I'm getting more than a bit irritated with our optics providers marketing departments. Specifically, rifle scopes and mil-dot reticles.

To my mind the mil-dot is the best hunting reticle available at this time. It should be available in just about any scope you want to buy, regardless of exterior finish or power. The idea that the mil-dot must be limited to the "tacticool" matte finish scope gravels me.

The reticle is far less cluttered than all the Rapid-Z types, offers windage options that the now-much-touted BDC types don't, and simply outshines the traditional cross-hairs in utility of use. But somebody with a BIG pocketbook better help your bank account if you want that reticle in a gloss or silver finish scope. Go ask a glass maker's custom shop the price of a fixed six with a mil-dot, I'll bet you'll be less than satisfied with both the answer and the attitude with which it was given. There's a major optics supplier of rifle scopes that also seems to think that there's very little need for the standard 1/4" click turrets on their mil-dot scopes. They cite the need for rapid vertical adjustment in a tactical situation. I'd like the industry standard for adjustments in a hunting situation. But, I'm not supposed to hunt with that type of reticle in my scope I guess. Use a Boone & Bull, or go someplace else seems to be the attitude there. Want a gloss scope with a mil-dot reticle? Perhaps for a custom gun where the finish of the scope needs to match that of a fine blue job? Don't hold your breath, ain't gonna happen. You can, if you search long enough, get a mil-dot in a 30mm tube, but only in matte.

I think that the reticle is more than good enough to be presented in a much larger selection of glass in any good optics makers scope line. And I'm pretty much inclined to keep my money in my bank account till I can get what I want.

The problem with offering them in every option is that far too many people will complain that the scope is faulty because far too many people don't understand the FFP vs SFP.

I don't think that it is the best reticle ever made (especially if it has MOA adjustments), there are much better offerings available now.

And I don't have to search long, nor hard, to find a 30 mm scope with the mil-dot reticle. But yes, it most likely will be matte.

Problem is most hunters don't know what a mil is much less how to use it.

Add to that most hunting center fire calibers are point blank to 250 yards or so which is farther than most hunters need to be shooting since they can't estimate distance or wind worth a flip. So why even have a graduated reticle for most of them.

But I totally agree if you are proficient why not give yourself another advantage?
You can get the scope painted or coated

I feel your pain. Took me a long time to find the setup I wanted (similar to what you're looking for) without dropping the change for a US Optics or Nightforce.

I went with the Bushnell Elite Tactical 3-12x44 with the G2DMR reticle. It's not a regular mil-dot (similar to the Horus reticle), but it is in mil increments.

I'm starting to like it, too, once I figured out why it was better. I used to think it was too busy.

900F, if you want mil-dot with mil adjustments, and 10x is OK, Midway has the Bushnell 321040T on sale for $200. Just got the email. I can't speak specifically to this model, though.

the horus IS too busy. the G2 doesn't obstruct your view nearly as bad, but still has some elevation and wind hold points
