I finally got the scope and quickly mounted it to see clearances and sight height to bore axis.
I am not pleased with it being 2" above the bore axis. I am going to try different rings.

I had purchased one of the picatinny mounts for my CZ and had the same issue as you.

It is hard enough getting a scope low on a CZ because the bolt throw is so long. Adding that rail made the height unacceptable.

I went for taller rings. By the way, no need to pay for CZ rings. Universal Weaver clamps held on just fine on the 223.

I think it is a natural move to use the parts bin first before ordering new stuff.

Lose the rail and clamp directly to the dovetails on the receiver with appropriate Warne rings for the CZ.

why not use cz 16mm rings

I am going to order some 16mm dovetails, probably Warne rings. Anyone know which ones will get a 30mm tube with a 40mm objective closest to the barrel?

What is the purpose of the picatinny rail, you have three additional components, two mounts and a rail? Do your top mounts not fit the rifle?

This is a learning experience for me. Some posts about eye relief and getting the scope far enough back lead me to believe that it would be good to have the rail. As you can see from my photos that where I mounted it aligns with the built in points and so it isn't giving me anything. I will keep that mount in case I wanted to put something on the rifle that requires it, but it is too tall otherwise. The rail is one piece and has the 16mm dovetails, and is very solid. Once on it is like part of the rifle.

So, if anyone knows which 16mm dovetail rings get a 40mm objective with a 30mm tube the lowest possible please let me know.

You can see from the picture there is plenty of clearance for the bolt handle. That is a CZ custom handle, not the default one.

Having worked in the LGS, I can tell you that it's tough to find the correct rings without having different ones to try. I can also tell you that one company's low rings might be higher than another maker's medium ones.

I'd take it to a well stocked local shop and try before you buy. FWIW, I have CZ rings on both my CZ's

I have an identical VX-R on my deer rifle. Sweet!

Thank you. That is nice and low. I like that a lot.
That looks like a 42mm objective and a 30 mm tube.

Your link selects the Warne HIGH ring.

From the Warne website the high ring is .535" and the medium is .425".
So, .11" (almost 1/8th of an inch, about 1/9th) diffence in height, I am thinking the 40mm objective on my scope will work with the Medium mount, does anyone think differently?

I'm using Warne medium dovetail rings with a Redfield Revolution 2-7x33 and a modified bolt handle purchased directly from CZ-USA. Plenty of clearance on the handle and not too high off the bore.

I'm using Warne high rings. Scope is 30mm tube with 42 objective. The clearance between the barrel and lens objective is around .2 inch.

The clearance from the eyepiece and bolt handle (stock) is around .1 inch.

Excellent photo. Thank you.
I will compare my standard bolt handle with the modified and try to estimate if things will clear.

BTW: I have the Elite 6500 on my .30-06.

hmmm....looks like fat fingers would be hitting that ocular lens though

So, I have had some time from work to get back to the task of getting rings for my CZ 527.

I decided to make some ring mounts to see how low I could get things and still clear.

Remember, I have the CZ modified bolt handle installed.
The scope is a Leupold VX-R 30mm tube with 40mm objective.

After doing this four times and allowing for error I estimate that a safe height is 15mm. I measured 15mm, 15mm, 14mm, and 12mm.
Granted the putty deformed some taking it off, I will stick with 15mm as an estimate.

I should have drawn the 15mm line from the center of the baseline, so the drawing is a little off. Don't let that throw you.

I have got to have this scope mounted and ready on Oct. 11, so I just ordered the CZ rings.

Since my average estimate is 0.55" or 14mm and the CZ rings are .555" I figured that would be just fine.

I would have ordered the Warne High Rings at 0.535" (13.6mm) but I couldn't tell if they had the lug on the rear ring that fits into the notch cut into the CZ 16mm mount.

BTW: Leupold responded today to my questions about their scope rings for the CZ 527. They said that one ring does have the lug to fit the notch on the CZ 527. FYI.

For reference, here's a CZ 527 .223 Cal. Varmint Kevlar with a Weaver 6-20x40mm AO Grand Slam and
CZ Rings, Medium (.555").
