It is back on the shelf, but at a premium price. I find it odd that Academy still limits .22LR to one box a day. :cuss:
 
Don't feel bad Carlson1. The WalFarts up here (2 of them) have raised their prices for the Winchester 555 bulk from $21.97 to $51.97!!

And they STILL don't have any on the shelves!
 
went to walmart yesterday at 6:45 am

there where like 50+ boxes of 22lr federal 325 auto match packs for like 19.87 also cci mini mag 100 round packs for like 7 bucks

also picked up a box of federal 223 hundred round value packs for 40 and some cents.

tons and tons of 9mm which was also pretty cool to see..

all and all not bad... Prices are up but i'm just glad i can get the ammo i've been wanting

Are you sure? Thats the EXACT price I paid for a 1000 round bulk pack of Winchester M22 22LR this morning at 7AM.
 
I paid $23 for a Federal 325 pack a few days ago. Not too bad but way more than the pre-panic prices. IMO it is anyway. I refuse to pay $50 for a brick of bulk ammo.

To me that means being able to walk in any store that normally sells ammo, to actually have affordable handgun and rifle ammo on the shelves at any time or day or night.

Yes, way more than prepanic....The last Automatch I bought cost me $10.68 a box shipped from Cabelas. I am glad I bought 2 cases.
 
It's been so long since I have seen any .22LR ammo I can't remember what I paid for it. Will have to start checking Walmart again but as of last week they still didn't have any.
 
A new Bass Pro Shops opened in my city last week, and they had quite a bit. However, .22LR ammo was kept behind the counter and limited to four "sleeves" of CCI MiniMags and two of any of the "bulk packs" they had. Not sure what the limits were on the Winchester 100-round sleeves were; they were probably limited to four, also. I was in there two days, and bought the limits both times.

Personally, I'd rather the rest out there stay at the keyboard. More room for me at the range, and more ammo, too.
 
I haven't seen it back on the shelves except at places that have it at really high prices. No thanks I'll wait. It's hunting season anyways this weekend. :)
 
There is no meaning in the fact some ammo is on the shelf other than we are finally seeing the results of increased production. Doesn't mean this mess is over with especially with the 5-20 million new shooters that have joined in the last year. Those new shooters are 98% responsible for the shortage of ammo along with manufactures who got caught unprepared and waoted to see if the increased demand was for real. The ammo supply is still thin and an example is I can walk into my local Academy, buy two 500 round cases of ammo and they will be out until their next shipment and there is no assurance the ammo I bought will come in on that shipment. Things are still very fragile but it is looking up which is just in time for the 2014 elections.
 
Ammo is back? You could have fooled me. I haven't seen 22 ammo on the shelf since last winter. You have to 'ask', and if they have any the clerk will go in the back and bring out a single box in a brown paper bag. It's disgusting.
 
With the new level of base consumption much higher than the prior "normal" for .22LR,
it could be as long as say Dec/2015 before availability on .22LR specifically gets back to what it was in Nov/2012. Prices will inevitably be higher. How much higher is an open question.

Mfgr and their suppliers were essentially maxed out in .22LR production capacity, carefully matched to the level of actual consumption. With the new higher level of consumption between all of the new shooters and the existing folks who bought .22LR firearms to workaround other shortages, it's a new ball game.

Mfgr will have to:
- Wait to confirm it isn't a bubble
- Order production machinery
- Acquire/allocate land for new production lines
- Build structures for new production lines
- Hire and train staff for new production lines

Suppliers to above manufacturers (sheet brass, extruded lead wire, propellant, priming compound) will have to repeat the above process too, except they will have to wait until their customer (the finished .22LR mfgr) tells them they intend to permanently expand production.

When all of that new capacity gets brought online, it's output will immediately be consumed by all of the pent up demand by customers waiting 6+ months for better pricing and/or better availability.

Such are the foibles of a fine-tuned supply/demand marketplace :-(
 
I like philosophical ammo threads, Do I indulge in a shooting orgy to feel good or do I maintain my frugal shooting practices and continue to stockpile the extra?

Since I believe we're only 1 crises away for total ammo oblivion I'll continue to stockpile.

Stack it deep, so deep that the floor begins to sag. At that point reinforce the floor and continue stocking.
 
I hear ya Comrade Mike...right now with the current prices I can shoot handloaded .38 Special DEWCs or BNWCs cheaper than value packed .22LR.

I stop by my Wal-mart on the way home from work 2 times a week just to gauge ammo supplys...

Mine had plenty of the 150 and 120 rnd Federal XM855 packs at 69.00 and 60.00 each... I counted almost 3,000 rnds worth of the 150 packs. See them for "re-sale" all the time on our local VA Gun Trader board for at least double that by the scalpers.....

Plenty of hunting rifle ammo as well.

Plenty of target/bird shot and tons of those Winchester military buck shot for 12 gauge. I have noticed some shells here and there for 20 and .410.

NOT a single box of .22LR on our shelves for at least 6 months.

Impossible. I find bulk anywhere from 4 cents a round to 8 cents a round. If I'm lucky primers are costing $40/1000 without tax or shipping let alone the extreme prices for brass,powder,bullets and more importantly the cost of your time.
