Hope this is the right place to post?

Does anyone have any information on a EMF New Dakota .45LC SA revolver made my Armi San Marcos (ASM) (Thought it was an Uberti). I hear that ASM was dropped by EMF years ago. Other queries say that the New Dakota is made my Uberti? Anyone know who made the "New Dakota" model and what quality is it.

I paid $319 for it. It was sold as NIB never fired, I am thinking of taking it back in the morning, I thought it was a Uberti product. Based on being new I assumed it was an Uberti product, the Box says othwise (ASM):(

Her is the website: http://www.emf-company.com/ it mentions Pietta and Uberti, but not ASM. Also i only can find reference to the "Dakota II" but nothing on the "New Dakota" which is stamped on the barrel.

Thanks for any info.

I have three, two consecutive matched .45's, and a .357. They have a black chromed grip frame, as opposed to my old Dakota which had a brass grip frame. ASM quality was always pretty good, and though the parts will not interchange with a Pietta, but they will with Uberti, mostly as a drop in fit.

I have an older Hartford Model that was made by ASM and imported by EMF. It was their U.S. Cavalry model that was made to look like a military issue Colt SAA with the apropiate inspector's marks. The one thing I found was that some parts made by Uberti would not fit on my ASM gun because they were slightly oversized or configured in such a way that they wouldn't fit properly without some work being done to them.

Thanks for the replies, I need to think and decide if i want to keep it or not. for todays prices $300 isnt bad, but am worried about the quality.

thanks,

I had one and shot the snot out of it !!!! It was a great shooter. It should say A.S.M. under the barrel. These guns were a very close match in size and demension to the Colt (little smaller grip than most copies). If you like it , keep it. I was very happy with mine.
As far as parts. I don't know of many parts that are "drop in". No two guns are the same no matter what make they are.
By tha way, A.S.M. is no longer in business so you wont find um any where.

ASM went out of business more than a decade ago. EMF sold their BP and cartridge revolvers back in the day. This is from a 1996 EMF catalog. FWIW, it showed the list price for a basic blued finish New Dakota as $410.

Lefty, for what it's worth, I have several ASM made guns and they have been shot quite a bit. Solid and dependable. Only thing I have had to replace are the main springs and I got them from Wolff.

I think you have done right.
I have an older Cimarron Model P made by ASM and it is a good revolver. I changed the grips to hard rubber and squared the rear sight to make it as close a match to my Colt as possible and it plays CAS just as well.

The ASM Schofield was a dead loss, refunding and replacing them almost put Cimarron out of business.

I picked up one right after they came out. Paid $200 NIB. It has always shot to POA & has been a great S.A. rov. I had a few guns in this Cal. and sold some others & kept this gun as it is a great shooter. Mine is marked 'NEW DAKOTA ' in top OC the barrel & ASM on the bottom of the barrel . I have seen this same pistol go for &$600 at a LGS last year . I have no idea why the price was so high, but the owner said they were a lot of CAS guys buying them up. This is a nice piece to carry in the woods or around the farm.

krupparms - I have that same one, took it out to the range today for the first time. It shot great, nice groupings. The only thing is now i have one revolver with a 5 1/2 in barrel and one with 4 3/4.

I appreciate all the great comments. And that i did not return it. This will be a great addition for my Cowboy shoots.

thanks all,

Lefty

Mine has the 4 3/4 BL. & feels great in your hand, balance is perfect. I can see why they are so popular with the CAS crowd. I can't help you with the choice of which to keep, but I would keep both of them if you can. You won't regret it! Have fun shooting them & don't worry about power. The .45 colt has worked great for years. Good luck & good choice with your new guns. :)
