I'll never forget my little brother and I out camping long ago (we were teenagers), me with my Hi-Power and some Safariland shoulder rig or something and him with his Ruger .22 heavy barrel with that huge undercut front sight.. and no holster. What a dummy.
He realized his failing and cut the legs off of his blue jeans and somehow fashioned some sort of holster with that denim and some fishing line or something. Yep.. it was lame as all get out but at least he didn't have to carry it around in his hands. The "draw" was something to behold.

A very nice interpretation of the classic Tom Threepersons design.

I'll play I started making my own because I couldn't find one for my little Rossi .357 mag. And I can't afford an expensive "box-o-holsters" under my bed trying to find what fits me.

The SmartCarry type was because I couldn't bring myself to spend the money on that if I didn't like it, so I sat down to play with an old piece of denim and material I had around. I like the deep concealed for the Kahr but now can't spend the money on a SmartCarry because what I have works perfectly fine

That S&W 686 holster will get remade to the style of my shorter Rossi. Revos work better with one style and the semiautos with another style (as my G19 is).

I use black belt loops to blend in with the belt, not for some fasion style of the holster.

The first and only holster I ever made was for a Browning Hi-Power. I was around eighteen years old. I sewed a piece of denim on the/to the inside of a pair of Levi's.. 4:00 carry or so and canted like I like. It worked great.

I started making holsters for Civil War re-enactors and have made my own ever since. I often want something very specific such as in the picture below.



* The scoped GP100, I wanted an open top holster for this one . It also has a 15 degree cant for cross draw.
* The 4" GP100 is my main concealed carry gun and I wanted a high rise with a cant for carry at the 4 o'clock position.
* For my Single Ten I wanted a old west style holster.
* My wife wanted a simple range holster for her SP101 .22
* I made the bandolier belt primarily for the scoped 6" GP100 as a hunting rig/range rig. There is 8" of adjustability in the length of the belt and the holster is attached with Chicago screws so it can be swapped out with the Single Ten holster for squirrel hunting.

Thanks. Deep molding is the only retention method I use for IWB and OWB. Gun slides in with a snap in to position and just tight enough to retain should I fall half way down a mountain out here. The G19 is usually my everyday carry and the holster is starting to show a little wear after more than 3 years of use, and I carry every day. Pictures are showing it could use a little touch up.

A lot of mixed reviews on this but for me I call it dangerously comfortable. Not because of the perceived danger of barrel position but because it is a little slower to draw than simple IWB 3:30-4:00 position. The Kahr P9 is as big and thick as I can carry in it though, the G19 no way! I'm not fat but certainly not skinny (5'11" 180 lbs) so the G19 is just too much. I can sit in the car all day in perfect comfort with that holster or go to a meeting and no one is the wiser - which is the primary benefit of such a holster method.

Here are a couple of holsters I've made. Nowhere near as nice as the ones on here. 1st is for a friends SAA clone, 2nd is for my 8 3/8 model 29. How do you guys get the dye so uniform? It always seems streaky/blotchy for me when I try to dye a holster.

actually they look pretty good to me, what kinda leather and dye are you using?
bring your stitch line in a smidge, and adding a welt helps keeps from undo strain on your stitches and looks more professional.
Personally ive never had too much streaking, but i have had it on a few knife sheaths, its a pain, on those i just go with the flow and try for a more mottled/antique appearance, ive become good at covering my mistakes
hard to diagnose the problem your having without being there if ya know what i mean

I'm using 7-9 oz vegetable tanned cow hide. For dye I have used Fiebing's and Tandy. Tandy dye seemed to cover more evenly with less blotching/streaking than the Fiebing's.

An airbrush give more uniform coverage, in my (admittedly limited) experience dying leather.
