22wmr or 25acp ?

Probably the Beretta bc of the smaller size of the gun.

And the fact that most centerfire ammo is more dependable than rimfire. Although I'm not so sure the 22 mag might not actually be a little more potent.

The 22wmr is much more potent than the 25, but I assume the revolver is a Single 6 which may be hard to conceal in a proper holster. Just deciding on the rounds themselves, the 22magnum is the choice for self defense over the 25.

I carry a NAA Black Widow every day in 22wrm. It also has the 22lr cylinder. With practice it is surprising accurateaccurate.

Is this a serious scenario? Sell something and get a box of .45 ACP.

I won't be a jerk and speculate/insult about it, I'm pretty sure he's learned the lesson about stocking up ahead of time.

Actual answer - I'd carry the gun that I could carry most comfortably and/or shot best.

.22wmr (at least the quality loads) is very reliable, it isn't the mass-produced almost-unsealed helled-bullet design of .22lr, so "reliability of rimfire ammo" concerns aren't really an issue. (.22wmr is LOUD from a revolver, though)
If anything, reliability of a little bitty pocket gun would be more of a concern, that's something the OP knows best.

Either way, you'll be so far ahead of the completely unarmed drones all around you that the minor differences between .22wmr from a wheelgun and .25acp from a little stub of a barrel will be unlikely to be signifigant. Carry the gun you'd rather carry all day and don't agonize over it.

Or get together with a shooting buddy and get a few magazines' worth of carry ammo from them - if I had a friend in that jam, I'd at least hook them up with a gun-full and a reload-mag-full of mine.

I intended no offense with my post... I just intended to provoke some thought. Don't shoot "all" your SD ammo at the range.

There is nothing rude about suggesting that someone not deplete all of their self defense ammo. If I shot up all my plinking loads, I think I'd save the last magazine for a "just in case" scenario.

To the question of the question at hand. If the .22 WMR is an LCR and not full size, I would go with it. If not, the Beretta would prolly be the easier to conceal of the two.

Beretta .25 between those two.

By the way, I also have one and carry it on occasion.

I would eat ramen for a week and buy a box of 9mm ball. If thats truly not an option, drop the .25 in your pocket, odds are, you'll be fine.

If I can conceal it, the .22 Magnum.

If I can only conceal the Beretta, then Beretta it is.

My preference would be to dig up the money for a box of .45 or 9mm. One box of 20 should not break the bank and it is available. The .22mag to me would be the most likely to stop a threat. The .25 a lot more concealable.

It happens, cant afford to buy ammo before, and durn sure cant afford to buy ammo now either.
Only ammo I have is the box or so I was able to pick up on at a time when I could afford to. I have plenty, no worries there but I did`nt have to hurry and hoard it up as the prices was a rising either.
On a fixed income now, there is nothing left over after the bills is paid and a few groceries is bought, it is just life. A happy one at that, no time clock to have to punch, tinker on my junk out in the garage.
Injured, ca`nt work because of the drugs they give Me for the rheumatoid artritus and inflammation, its just the way it is suppose to be.
Had in 31 years with the Mt. D.O.T; was going to put in fourty but then, crap occurs. Also had My businesses all set and was working them along with the job but had to sell those off too, and so, Ramen Noodles and spam is mighty tasty stuff.

With the price 22 ammo being what it is, couldn't you trade some for 9mm or 45 , I,ve traded ammo I had for ammo I needed more than once.

I have just the opposite problem; no time to get to the range to burn up my ammo. Still have sufficient quantities of all my favorite calibers. Given the choice between .22WMR and .25ACP, with both guns capable of being concealed, I would go with the .22WMR revolver.

The revolver is the Ruger LCR , 2 " barrel.

I agree with Afdavis. Trade the beretta for some 45acp ammo.

After reading more since the opening post I would not advise him to trade a gun for ammo. Bc in 2 weeks we'll be right back here bc the lack of ammo isn't the problem. Its the result of a lack of self control. I'd work on that first. I base this from post #17.

YOU REALLY SHOULD GET YOURSELF AT LEAST 1 twenty round box of 9m.m. if that is what you shoot. I would see if a local gun shop will trade you for some of that .25ACP which is pretty expensive these days.

Barring that, which one do you shoot better. A snubby .22magnum is not much better than a high velocity .22lr from a 6 inch barrel. You loose a lot of velocity, so you will only get around 1,000 to 1,100 feet per second, maybe less.

That being said, whichever one is most likely to allow you to hit your target is the one to use.

I have shot the baby BERETTA'S and they are very reliable and easier to shoot than most of the micro pistols and will hold more rounds than a six shot revolver and be faster to reload.
It will also be MUCH EASIER TO CONCEAL than an LCR.

If your revolver has a 4 inch or longer barrel, then I would consider going with it.

In my opinion the O.P. is incorrect in assuming that the 22 wmr is not a effective S.D. round. With the increase of women owning and carrying guns the 22 wmr has generated a lot of interest. So much in fact that major ammo companies such as Winchester and Hornady are making ammunition specially designed for short barrel handguns. The American Rifleman magazine recently published a in depth article about test results with the 22 wmr.

In response to the O.P. question the 25 acp is a well document poor stopper . It lacks enough energy for penetration and is easily defended by bones such as the rib and skull. I have personally seen several gun shots to the skull where the round simply skidded around the exterior of head just under the skin. The Doctor easily removed the bullet and the victim was sent home with just a bandaid covering the entrance and exit holes. The 25 acp has no use and should be allowed to die but I think the “cute” factor of the small handguns that chamber it keeps it alive.

On the other hand the 22 wmr is a well documented effective hunting round. It is a common choice for hunting ‘yotes. Enough folks like it as a handgun round that both gun and ammo manufacturers are producing it. So the reader is left with deciding if thousands of gunowers and the ammo companies are correct in their confidence of the 22 wmr or some posters on Internet forums.

Long story short my wife has chosen the 8 shot Taurus 22 wmr as her S.D. gun. We have enough testing on this round that I believe it will do the job when placed in the boiler room (and there is not any rules shooting only once). Select a cartridge made specially made for handguns and carry with confidence
